Summary: After being rejected by Misty, Ash runs off and tumbles over the edge of a cliff. He lands in evolution valley, a place where aged and wounded pokemon gather to be healed and renewed. As soon as he enters, he reverses aging until he is a baby again. There, he is adopted. When he is eleven, his foster ‘parents’ send him out into the world again…

Disclaimer: “I don’t own pokemon!”

Prologue: Beginnings

Ash ran, ignoring the briars that caught at his clothes and the branches that whacked him in the face as he ran. “Why? Why, Misty? I love you! But you don’t love me back… is it because of Brock? Who do you love then?”

He was so caught up in his own thoughts that he didn’t realize how his next step sent him tumbling in empty air.

As soon as he landed, he blacked out, surprised that he wasn’t dead.

< I think you should come and see this. >

Charlotte looked up from where she and Lance were bandaging a wounded Pinsir. “Is this urgent?”

            “We’re kind of busy here.”

< Yes, it is important. >

< Fine. > Lance nodded and a glowing ball of light surrounded Pinsir, healing it completely. “Let’s go.”

            Charlotte nodded.

Charlotte and Lance stared at the baby boy.

            “What?”

“How did a human get in here – wait.”

Charlotte brushed Ash’s hair out of his eyes. On his forehead, the kanji symbol for lightning blazed golden.

Wordlessly, Lance pushed her hair out of her eyes, showing the symbol for ice, etched in blue.

Charlotte did the same, and fire shown on her forehead in bright red.

“You’re the one who was the guardian…” Lance said, “I’m the one who is the guardian, and he is the one who shall be the guardian.”

            Charlotte nodded.

“The Triple guardianship. Disturb not the harmony of fire, ice, and lightning, lest these Titans wreak destruction in the world in which they clash. But though the water’s great guardian shall rise to quell the fighting, alone its song will fail and the world will turn to ash.”

“You’re fire, so you’re the oldest. I’m ice, so I’m next. And he’s lightning, which makes him the youngest of the three guardians.”

“Let’s take him back to the cabin.” Charlotte said, scooping Ash up. Lance nodded and followed her.

“Do you have any experience in taking care of babies?”

“Of course not! I’m a Dragon Master! You think I have time?”

“I don’t either, I mean, I’m a gym leader for goodness sakes! But we can’t just leave him to die either.”

            The two girls sighed.

< I can take care of him. > A voice spoke up.

They turned around. There sat an Espeon.

            “Could you, Starshine?”

< Of course. I have already raised three litters of Eevees. This can’t be much different. >

< Very well. > They handed Ash over to Starshine. < Take good care of him! >

            < Don’t worry, I will! >

When they checked on Ash five weeks later, they were shown a pure white Eevee with a black ruff.

“I guess he utilized his transform…” Lance said, as she watched the Eevees dashing around.

            “Yep…”

“So he must be aware of his power.”

“Maybe he isn’t aware, he just wants to fit in.”

“We shouldn’t disturb him this early in his development.”

< Come on, Moonlight! > Starshine called. Ash bounded over happily, with a fat flopping fish in his mouth.

Great job, little brother!  Bright moon, an older Eevee said.

            Thanks sis!

You finally learned to fish after a moon! (A month)

Ash smiled and wagged his tail.

He was fitting in very nicely with the eevees. But of course, he didn’t evolve, since Eevee wasn’t his real form. And he did have ‘human lessons’ from his other set of parents, but he still considered himself a pokemon. Which he was, even though he didn’t know his own self that well. As he grew older, the two other guardians explained his duty and his place in life, and he learned to fit in.

Eight years later… (Ash grows a bit faster than normal people, because he’s a pokemon. He resembles a twelve-year old.)

“Are you ready to leave?” Lance asked.

Ash nodded. “I want to become a pokemon master, just like you and Char-chan!”

“Very well.” Lance said, as she handed Ash a red pokédex and six poke balls. “Good bye and good luck!”

Charlotte handed Ash his backpack, with sixteen changes of clothes in it, along with plenty of food, and some pokemon items.

“I’ll miss you and all the eevee family too!” Ash said, as he waved goodbye.

“Remember, if anyone asks your name, say…”

“I know.” Ash said. “My name is Red Silver.”

            “Best of luck!”

Ash nodded and fingered the three poke balls at his waist, already filled. Vulpix and Dratini. One each from each of his two ‘parents’, and a third poke ball containing a baby Eevee for him to take care of.

            “Bye!”

            And so, Ash set off…
