Chapter 5! Finally, I’ve got a bit of a bunny back!

Disclaimer: I’m a broke college student with 20k + debt. I don’t own pokemon. I can’t afford it. Don’t steal my fanfic, I wrote it myself and taking it infringes on copyright law!

Notes: <> for telepathy, ** for thoughts, italics if a pokemon talks…

Ash and Lance are blood brothers. They are not related by chromosomal means. Hence, this fic is not incest. Ash also goes by the name ‘Red’ since he’s lost his memory.

This will be championshipping

Chapter 5

“What will you do to save him?”

Lance tensed. What was that voice? Who had dared infringe on the boundaries of his sanctuary?

He felt the dragons roar in his mind as his hands lengthened into claws, silver-tipped…. Who was it?

Serebii? No, it sounded too dark. The voice was also male. Last time he checked, Serebii had been 100% female.

The duplicates the time guardian made were all female, after all…

            “Who are you?” Lance asked.

A shape materialized, lambent with inner radiance. It looked vaguely human, but as it approached, Lance realized that it was not a human after all, but the legendary pokemon Deoxys. Interesting…

This psychic/steel type was quite new to their world. No one was quite sure what to make of it. Still, he decided to observe proper protocol and kneel.

Deoxys studied the human male. This one had a touch of power… no, more than a touch. He must be what the others laughingly referred to as a legendary child then, a union between pokemon and something else…

Human? Perhaps. Strange that the legendaries would lower themselves to mate with one of that race…

This one though, had strong power inside of him. Dragon, and more… Psychic? A glimpse, a shade of it, but more of it was Dark and Ghost. Perplexing…

            “Who are you?”

“I am Lance Dragyn, Dragon Master.” The young man got up from his kneeling position and Deoxys took an involuntary step back as he saw the sunspots it had for eyes. Interesting.

“Why do you cry the, legendary child? What ails you? Is something brewing in Serebii’s domain?”

“No, none that I can tell, although you would do better to ask Moltres’s child instead of me.” Lance smiled. “Tis simply that my love has been taken away.”

            “Stolen, you mean, by another?”

“Nothing so simple. He is still here, yet his mind has wandered away.”

“Ah!” Eyes widened. “I see. And no help has come?”

“Our Psychic and Ghost masters could not reach him. It is forbidden to interfere in the lives of the Chosen directly, also… unless of relation.”

            “I understand.”

“Fare thee well, Child of the Dragons.” Deoxys finally said, before vanishing in a shimmer of wind.

Lance went back to find Red, before a thought struck him. If Red were who he assumed he was, than it was possible that…

There was a way to undo this. Blood called to blood after all… he returned to the cabin and flipped open his blue compact.

Sometimes, the simplest solutions were best.

“Hello?” Charlotte flicked open her red compact. “Ah, hi Lance.”

“Long time no see, fire guardian.”

“What troubles you now? Or is Ash in some sort of danger again?”

“I’m disappointed. Aren’t you happy to hear from me?”

A laugh. “Lance, we hardly talk except when he’s in danger. We may be allies, but we aren’t friends, not quite.”

“You are correct of course. It’s Ash. It seems that he has some form of total amnesia.”

There was a pause. “Total amnesia? How severe is it?”

“Do not worry, he can live without it. It would ordinarily not be a concern of mine, only now he’s been turned into a dragon.”

“How in Moltres’s name did that happen?”

“If I knew, would I be seeking aid from you?”

“Point taken, but no need to be so touchy. I wouldn’t mind being friends for his sake.”

“We shall see. How soon can you be at my residence?”

“It won’t take long for me to fly in from Cosmos. I don’t trust my teleportation skills.” Charlotte replied.

Lance snickered. “Well, we all have our weaknesses.”

“No need to rub mine in. How close is the nearest body of water to your cabin?”

“There’s a stream about twenty feet from it.”

Charlotte took a deep breath. “I’d better take some medicine first. I’ll be there soon. A few more minutes can’t hurt…”

Fifteen minutes later, the black-haired Champion appeared on the back of her Pidgeot. Recalling the bird, she knocked on the door of the cabin and was swiftly granted admittance.

Charlotte gaped at the blue dragon in Lance’s lap, before shaking her head. “It is his aura all right. I can’t believe you didn’t notice.”

“Though I retain my memories life to life, I often cannot sense his presence even if he’s right next to me.”

“A trade-off I guess.” Charlotte nodded as her golden eyes glowed red. “Let me check...”

            “You’re already in second form?”

“Yes unfortunately. Nothing could be done. The Messenger burned out in a matter of months. She was too weak to stand the strain of balancing.”

“I thank you humbly for your duty.”

“Since as long as I’m balancing, you won’t have to, ne?” She winked. “It’s nothing. I spend most of my job watching and waiting in any case. Less direct action than you and he require.”

            “Do you prefer it?”

“Yes, though my blood runs with fire I find quiet contemplation to be a more prudent route more and more.”

Lance smiled. “And I think I’ve learned impulsiveness as time goes by.”

“Strange to think of time, for us guardians, it’s so different.” The girl finished her scan. “His DNA is still normal, so it is no genetic change.” She was the most science oriented of the three guardians.

“Then what do you think? It’s not illusion, is it?”

“Not that I foresaw, no…” And her foresight was never wrong, though sometimes it was muddled.

“This is a troubling thing. No trick of Serebii’s, this one.”

“I wish I knew more. His state is stable, though, so he will not evolve farther, but his mind has truly fled. No, not fled.”

“No? But Sabrina could not sense it.”

“Well… it’s different. Something different.” Charlotte replied. “The way to undo this lies through the path of swords. You’ll not like it, but I have no doubt you’ll try it.”

Lance shook his head. “I know. What must I do?”

“Let him fall for Misty. Let him love her. And you must let him hate you to call fourth the newest weapon.”

“You mean this is like the Sacred Sword? A weapon hidden inside a guardian, or melded, like the King’s Crystal? Is that it?”

Charlotte nodded mutely. “So it would seem.”

“Tell me what you saw of our future then.”

“I see no looming darkness in your future. I see no death, not ours… Perhaps she has gained redemption at long last…”

            “You sound uncertain of that.”

“She has been my demise many times past. I would not like to repeat it.”

“I understand. I will be cautious.”

“Besides,” Charlotte made a gesture, “It’s for the good of the world.”

“Isn’t it always? For once, I would like the world to suffer for its mistake, but then the pokemon would suffer also…”

“I know. We can only wait and hope.”

When Red again woke, he was human again. Lance was watching him with a strange expression.

            “What is it, aniki?”

“Red, you really shouldn’t stay cooped up in here. It’s not good for your health.”

Red had to agree, although he wondered who the girl with Lance was. Was she his girlfriend? The way he was looking at her…

It felt like a dagger had been driven into his heart. He shivered, even though the girl seemed friendly enough.

She was pretty, and he could sense that she used fire pokemon. Why was she here though?

            Was he…jealous?

Impossible! He didn’t like Lance that way, did he?

Before he could say more, Red stormed outside. Charlotte exchanged a pained glance with Lance.
< We all play our roles to save him… >

            < If only he knew… >
