Don’t like AAMRN but will allow a little bit in here. But it’s obviously championshipping. Lance is so… freaking noble.

Chapter 6

Red ran until he was out of breath and collapsed against a tree. He took a few more breaths and wondered just where he was. All right, it had been a stupid thing to do, but if Lance had a girlfriend, why hadn’t his aniki told him?

            Don’t you trust me?

Did you turn me into a dragon to get me out of the way?

Why don’t you ever trust me? Why won’t you…it’s not fair! I never betrayed you, aniki, never…

            Yet you betrayed me…

“Where are you going? This is private property.”

Red turned around and met brilliant blue-green eyes underneath a fringe of carroty hair. “I’m sorry. I got lost.”

Misty sized up the boy. He was rather cute. “Who are you?”

“I’m Red. Lance’s little brother. Who are you?”

“Oh! I’m Misty Waterflower, the leader of the Cerulean Gym.”

            “Pleased to meet you.”

Inwardly, Misty decided that he was quite good-looking up close, and she wondered why Lance hadn’t let her meet Red. It wasn’t important.

            “Want to be friends?”

            “S-sure!” Red blushed.

He’s shy! How cute! Her inner mind, chirped. “Are you a pokemon trainer too?”

“No, I never left on a journey.” Red replied. “It was too dangerous or something.”

“What? Pokemon journeys are so much fun! Maybe you can come journey with me! I’m trying to become a water master! I have a Starmie, a Staryu, a Seaking, a Quagsire and a Psyduck!”

            “Wow, that’s cool.”

“Isn’t it? I know! Why don’t we head back to Cerulean? That’s my hometown, and you can pick up a pokemon from Professor Cinnamon there.”

            “Really?”

            “Sure!”

< And so it begins. > Lance said, as Charlotte tore her eyes away from the image burning in the fireplace and Lance emptied the glass of water he had been using to scry with. Both guardians sighed.

“Now, we just wait for the inevitable.”

“Yes. Will you alter his memory?”

            “It can’t hurt.”

            “It will hurt.”

“I meant that it would not hurt him. You lied to me…”

“No. All I said was that she would not bring us death. I said nothing of him.”

            “He has fallen again…”

Time jump – six months

“You may now kiss the bride.”

Charlotte held Lance down as she shoved a Hyper Potion down his throat. “I know you’re going into withdrawal again, but this is not good!”

The Dragon Master spluttered, but woke again. “How long have I been out?”

“About an hour. You missed most of the ceremony.”

            “Oh, excellent.”

“He’s not going to be happy about this.”

“That’s what we’re trying to achieve, isn’t it? Even if we have to swim through broken glass to do it?”

            “Yes, unfortunately. That is it.”

A masked man in purple clothing with psychic powers suddenly interrupted the wedding. He attempted to run off with the bridge, but Red released his Haunter to take care of the trouble, and surprisingly, it did

It was a bit of a shock when the man’s identity was revealed though.

“Why did you do it? Why? Why did you want to destroy my wedding?”

.

No answer came, except what was scrawled upon a series of notes in blood-red ink. Form dissolved into dust as Ash cried out in injustice.

Misty came and supported him, and the wedding commenced, though not as gay and cheerful as before.

We all do what we must…

“I hate you… you kept me from meeting the love of my life and then you have to interrupt my wedding. What do you have to say for yourself?”

“I did it to protect you. She’s dangerous.”

“Liar! She’s never hurt me! She’ll never hurt me! I swear to you that I’ll…!”

            A smile.

And then the blue shattered, forming itself into a wonderful shield of shellacked scales. There were gasps from the assembled, before the shield itself vanished.

It was done. The Sacred Shield had been forged and freed.

The land was safe. The world was safe.

His blood ran the rivers red.

Her tears were fire, he noticed, but she did not speak a word, even as she burned to ashes.

            The cycle had been broken.

            Moltres save us all.
