I have no idea why I’m writing this. But the other one went kaput, so I might as well… The title is the Spanish verb ‘To See’

Chapter 1

In the land of Ocean, there were many types of fay creatures. There were the mermaids, of course, as was to be expected, shy creatures, at times bold and vivacious, with their front halves human enough but no legs, instead, shimmering tails of brilliant scales, one tail only. Then there were the sprites, with arms and legs like any human, but upon their backs, two trailing fins, and their hair and eyes were an iridescent blue that no human’s would be. There were nixies, like the sprites, only tinier, and without the trailing fins. Instead, upon their wrists and ankles, knees and elbows, were sharp-edged fins of iridescent green, and up to six fin-spikes on the head, three in front and three in a ridge. Finally, there were the Kappa, and they were only humanoid only in shape, covered with thick blue scales over every visible body portion and utterly unattractive, with gaping white claws and teeth and glaring red eyes.

The inhabitants lived in harmony with water pokemon for the most part, and the pokémon would bring them news of the outside world, for the water faeries did not dare venture out alone. It was much too dangerous. Why, if they were seen, it would be straight to the dissection table and the breeding tank.

Thus, there was a general distrust of humans.

However, when one dropped right into the ocean above their home, there was not much they could do. They could try and ignore it, yes, but it might drown and then the body would fall down and that would be most unpleasant, so they sent one of their spies to investigate.

He was an oddity among the other sprites. After all, his eyes were a shade of silver so bright it was closer to gold, and his hair, instead of being blue, was blood red. It was whispered among the fay that perhaps he was a half-breed.

He hated it, of course, but his mother never bothered to tell him his Father’s identity, and his father was … or the father he thought – was, to his astonishment, a Kappa. Perhaps that was the reason he was so odd. At least he had escaped the curse of ugliness from that species.

In any case, he swam up to the fallen human with a mildly interested look. It was going to drown in a few minutes if he didn’t do something. With a sigh, he pressed his lips to the human’s, allowing it to breathe for a few minutes as they swam upwards, before he shot out of the water and laid him on a small boulder.

Red gasped as he sucked fresh oxygen back into his aching lungs. He was startled when he woke up, however, to find that though his pokemon were all in his poke balls, none of them could tell him what had happened after he had blacked out. The last thing he remembered was being crushed underneath a large pile of rock and passing out. But who had saved him?

And what about the Surf HM?

It was strapped onto his wrist, and amazingly still in one piece. After a Hyper Beam, well, that was commendable.

            Are you all right?

I think so.” Red took a few more breaths, before feeling carefully over his body. Nothing was broken….

Poli looked at him oddly. Are you sure? You were underwater for a long time…

            “I … I was?”

Yes! Over fifteen minutes! We were so worried!

Red paled. Fifteen minutes? But that was impossible! He’d have drowned for sure… how had he survived?

He frowned. He could figure it out later, he supposed… eh?

            What was… that?

It looked like a trainer… he was splashing in the water with a Dragonair. Was that the person who had saved him?

            “Hey!” Red shouted, waving.

Lance turned around and froze, golden eyes widening as he dived underwater. The Dragonair followed. Red blinked.

            “Did I do something wrong?”

Poliwrath shrugged uncomfortably. He wasn’t even sure if that so-called trainer was human. He was a water pokemon after all, and though his kind were freshwater, they had heard rumors…

Were they missing links between humans and pokemon or had they evolved separately? Such questions were beyond the realm of his simple mind to ponder. He looked around but saw nothing more, so he prodded Red.

            “Oh right!”

He used the Surf HM on his Poliwrath, and the two began surfing off towards Cinnabar Island.

Lance waited for a few minutes before he poked his head above the water. It had seen him. Fortunately, the human had not recognized him as being not of his species. For once, his abnormal coloration had come in handy…Phew…

Are you all right? Dragonair asked worriedly.

“Yes, I’m fine.” He patted the pokemon reassuringly. “It will be all right, love.”

            I sensed… something from him.

That caught Lance’s attention. “He has fay blood?”

I believe so. It’s hidden though, but it’s there. He’s still young and it hasn’t awakened yet, but it will in a few years. You may want to look him up.

            “I’ll think about it.”

Dragonair nodded, and no more was said.

“You got rescued and he didn’t let you say thank you? That’s so… romantic!”

Red stared at Blue like she had grown another head. “Excuse me?”

“Well, it is! Romantic I mean… Sigh...”

Red quickly left the girl alone. Romantic indeed! He just felt… well, weird.

Had he accidentally knocked the other trainer out or something while he was flailing around like a drowned rat? Was the other trainer angry with him? If so, he would like to make amends…
