Prologue/Chapter 1 (Note: Next two chapters are actually before this one)

Sizzling sounds combined with the familiar odor of scrambled eggs woke Misty Waterflower from a pleasant dream involving roses and whipped cream that the author will not describe in detail. Yawning, Misty got up, took a step forwards, and promptly tripped over the body of fellow trainer Ash Ketchum. The Pallet Trainer slept on blissfully, unaware of his transgression. Her former good mood ruined, Misty pulled a bucket of icy water out of malletsplace and splashed the trainer awake.

“YEOW! What did you do that for?” Ash demanded, shaking water out of his hair. * I hate this method of waking up! *

“You were feeling me up, pervert!”

“?” Ash was confused. However, he was also quite angry. After all, being woken up via a bucket of cold water and a screaming redhead was not good under any circumstances. “What did I do?”

‘Don’t play innocent! You were sleeping next to me!”

“But I didn’t!” Ash protested. * Damned brat… * “You moved in your sleep!”

“Misty colored, realizing that she was on the wrong side of the clearing and that Ash was correct, but she wouldn’t back down. “Well, you should have moved!”

            “I was asleep!!!!”

“Big deal!” Misty huffily left the site. Ash looked back at Brock helplessly. The rock trainer snickered.

“I would have picked someone else as my first, but it’s your funeral.”

“WHAT!?” It took a few moments for ash’s sleep-fogged brain to decipher that statement, but his reply was venomous. “Me? Sleep with a girl like her? Eew!’

Misty returned in time to hear that comment. “Insensitive jerk! First you molest me and now you insult me?”

“It’s true!” Ash countered, not hearing the first part.

            Misty saw red.

White hot-pain exploded in Ash’s vision as he screamed.

Ash awoke to a Pikachu shock.

You okay, Ash? Pikachu queried anxiously.

“My head hurts…” Ash moaned, pressing a hand to his forehead. His probing fingers found several lumps there.

            “Ow…”

“She hit you pretty hard this time.” Brock walked over with the first-aid kit in hand. * Hope the kid’s ok… *

            “Don’t say I deserved it.”

“I won’t, since I started it.” Both Misty and Ash gaped.

            “What?”

            “Brock?”

            “It’s true.” Brock coughed. “I provoked Ash…”

“But he still insulted me!” Misty snapped.

“Excuse me, but you’re the one who called me a pervert and then hit me several times…”

“You’re such an immature brat! I can’t believe I put up with you!”

            “…” Ash frowned. * Hypocrite! *

She was much worse than he.

“Then why do you follow me, huh?”

“For my bike of course!” Misty declared in righteous indignation.

“I already *paid* you the $2000 I won from Orange League. Isn’t that enough?”

“I’m adding five dollars interest for every day you procrastinated. Of course that isn’t enough!” Misty glared.

Ash’s jaw dropped. * What? * “Y-you!” He couldn’t think of an expletive vile enough to give vent to his anger, so he stayed silent.

Brock looked rather… well, hammered, as if someone had slapped him in the forehead with a pike.

Ash gritted his teeth. * I can’t believe I trusted her! Of course she would pad the price! * But now it all made sense. She was trying to suck him dry. In fact, she probably used all the money he had given her to buy new clothes instead of a replacement bike, so he wouldn’t find out exactly how much a new bike really cost. Well, now he had found out, and to say he was unhappy would be a major understatement. Those lumps stung too!

A battle aura began to shimmer in Ash’s mind.

Pikachu backed away. Ash was acting strange… he’d never seen his trainer like this before!
Misty sensed a change but forged on, confident she would come out on top as she had so many times past. “So what if I did? I deserve it.”

“You deserve nothing!” Ash spat. “I’ll be damned if I let you sponge off me any longer, you leech! Bloodsucking leech!”

Misty retaliated as par the norm with a mallet strike that laid Ash flat on the ground. A second one to the body knocked the wind out of him.

‘So what are you going to do about it, huh?” She taunted. “Give up Ash, you’re a weak trainer and you’ll never get any better.”

Ash slowly pushed himself to his feet. * You’re wrong, Misty. I’m not weak. I’m stronger than you’ll ever be, because I know that true power does not come from putting people down. You and I will never see eye-to-eye. Still, I refuse to stay here and be your punching bag any longer. *

Ash slowly pushed himself to his feet and stood up. Taking a deep breath, he turned his back on Misty and began walking down the dirt road.

            “Come, Pikachu.”

Pikachu followed, scampering after his master. Ash? Are you sure this is the right decision, leaving them behind?

“I’ve never been more sure of anything else in my life.” Ash half-smiled. “That good enough for you?”

            Yes, but what about Brock?

“He can keep traveling with her if he wants.”

            That’s not what I meant…

“I know, I know. Don’t worry, Pikachu. It will all work out right.”

            I hope so…

Ash walked to the edge of a cliff, noticing Misty watching him. A thought struck, as a smile curved his lips.

I will make you suffer like I suffered… this guilt will hunt you for the rest of your life. Well, maybe not, but I can’t wait to see your face and explain this to my mother…

Ash willed fake tears into his eyes. “I… love you, Misty…” He sobbed, before stepping back into empty air.

The screams echoed in his ears as he fell.

He had activated a poke ball the second after falling. Two seconds later, Kadabra had teleported him to Ice Island.

            The three were waiting.

< We knew you’d return, little brother. >

< Will you accept our power now? >

< Yes. I will become Destiny and bring balance to this world. I was born for this. > Ash replied. * There’s never been more truth than this instant. *

< Very well. > Zapdos turned to Moltres and Articuno. < Call your own Chosen, sisters. >

            < We will. >

< And when the three are gathered, it will begin… >

Lance: I see?

Phantomness: I’m trying to rewrite End of Misty!

Kairo: You’re also trying to combine it with an earlier ficlet…

Shoyko: Well, it saves time

NOTE: Due to Phantomness’s naturally genetically deficient eyesight, updates will now be slower because she will be spending far less time on the computer typing fics up. I wish this hadn’t happened, but it’s not my fault I got faulty genes from my parents! >.<

Supposedly, am only supposed to spend 20 minutes on Internet a day. Life really sucks…

My computer’s being a pain in many regions as well, continuously resetting everything and erasing stuff…
