Chapter 10

“So you only have two badges left?”

            Ash nodded. “Yes.”

            “Interesting.”

“I just wish this egg would hatch. I’ve had it for a while, but there’s no change.” Ash took out the blanket-wrapped parcel.

“That’s interesting.” Lance nodded. “Well, it will probably hatch soon.”

            “Honto Ni?”

            “Hai.”

“But… what should I do now?”

“Blackthorn City is where the last gym is.” Lance told him. “You can go there for now, if you wish.”

“Hai.” Ash paused. “Lance, will I see you again?”

“Most likely not, unless you defeat the Elite Four.” Lance smiled.  “I should be leaving now. It’s not good to show favoritism to trainers.’

“Oh…goodbye then.” Ash said a bit sadly.

Lance smirked and waved goodbye, jumping onto his Dragonite and flying off. Pikachu shocked Ash light.

What are you up to now?

“Well, he’s cute… ack! Did I just say that out loud?”

            Corsola giggled. Funny!

Pidgeot looked amused while she swooped up a bug for lunch. Where’s blackthorn?

            “I’m not sure yet.”

Let’s go there then, and get the badge. It’s the most convenient thing to do.

Ash grinned, and soon they were on their way.

Claire was also easy victory thanks to Squirtle’s Ice Beam and Blizzard. Ash was on his way back to Olivine two days later when all of a sudden, his egg finally started to hatch.

            It split open.

            Ash’s eyes widened. “Wow…”

            Out popped… a Larvitar.

            “Sugoi~!”

Larvitar blinked his eyes in confusion, then looked at Ash, made the connection, and hugged him.

            Another one? Pikachu asked.

            Corsola smiled.

            Elsewhere, bells rang.

A figure sighed. “It’s beginning again, isn’t it...the legendary battle continues. Ah well, one can’t fight fate.”

Black smoke drifted form the smoking altar.

It would not be a pretty sight to see.

            “But so soon?”

A week later, it began to rain. Hard.

He had been in Olivine, but Jasmine was still hospitalized and unable to battle for a badge.

Ash and his pokemon immediately ran for cover, wondering how the weather could have taken a turn for the worse so quickly!

            Strange…

Ash began to feel foreboding. * What’s going on? *

            Something was happening, but what?

He hated being kept in the dark like that.

“Gyarados, can you stop the rain?”

The red gyarados shook her head. This is far beyond my control. No normal pokemon is doing this.

Yes, it is almost as if… Pikachu stopped. The legend…

            “What legend?”

The legend of Lugia, the three legendary birds, and the two Chosen…

            Ash blinked.

Just then, a giant shadow fell over him.

            L-lugia! Gyarados gasped.

            Pikachu fainted dead away.

Larvitar and Corsola clung to Ash, scared.

Lugia continued flying off, but that was when Lance jumped off and landed in front of Ash with some fancy acrobatic maneuvers so he wasn’t hurt at all.

“L-lance? What are you doing here?”

“You have to come with me to Whirl Islands.” Lance said without preamble.

            “What? Why?”

“Otherwise, the legend of Shamouti Island will reappear!”

            I’m confused. Gyarados said.

“It’s not that hard to understand.” Lance took Ash’s arm, and then whistled. Lugia flew back down.

            “Get on.”

            “What?”

“If you know what’s best for yourself, get on Lugia now! He’ll take you to the three. Otherwise, it is the world at stake!”

Ash did not have time to ask more as Lugia flew off.

Lance watched him go, and then touched the white stone pendant he wore on a silver chain.

“I hope he gets there in time… because I can do nothing to stop this.”

As Ash and Lugia neared Shamouti, they noticed the three legendary birds already fighting in the air.

            “What’s going on?!” Ash demanded.

< The legend is coming to life again, although I do not know why. > Lugia sighed. < You must stop them. >

            “Me? How? I’m just a normal trainer…”

The bird chuckled. < No. Take this. >

Ash took the black stone on a gold chain, and put it around his neck. “Now what do I do?”

< It’s in your heart, Chosen. You just have to find the words. Close your eyes. >

Frowning, Ash obeyed, and sure enough, the chant began to spiral and spin until he could form the words.

“I… summon the elements… of fire, ice, and thunder… May the three forces of nature combine…! Now reveal to me… my destiny… And… my true form will… Revive…”

Black energy crackled and leaped around him, morphing his body into its new, true form.

            Pikachu stared in awe.

Black wings streaked with gold feathers parted, revealing a figure in spiky golden armor, face framed with black feathers, angry golden eyes, and legs covered in the same night adornments that ended in sharp talons.

            Destiny.
