Chapter 5

It took four days before he got to Ecruteak.

On the plus side, Krabby had evolved into Kingler while beating off some wild Vulpix.

On the minus side, he was out of fruits and vegetables and had resorted to eating berries. They didn’t taste _too_ bad, but still…

Muk had been very useful in keeping a stalker away.

But on the whole, he was very, very glad to see civilization again.

He went and healed his pokemon, as usual, and then it was off to the gym. Morty wasn’t there either.

Were the Johto gym leaders ever at their gyms? Or maybe he just came at really bad times.

Shrugging, Ash slipped off to the dance theater to watch a performance. He was disappointed though, the girls weren’t that good.

            Why?

Strange, very strange… well, it wasn’t his business to pry. But the ‘drunk dance’ was funny.

Afterwards, he accidentally bumped against a gentleman while he was leaving.

            “Oh! I’m sorry.”

“It’s all right, son. By the way, are you a pokemon trainer?”

            “Yes, why?”

“Oh! Could you help me? I’ve never beaten the kimono girls, but I’ve always wanted to see a great pokemon battle.”

            “… They’re trainers?”

“Yes! The dancers are skilled at pokemon as well. If you win, I’ll give you a prize.”

Having nothing else to do at the moment, Ash agreed and went in to find the girls.

Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon he had expected, and those were defeated.

“Squirtle, Surf!”

“Flareon!”

Poor Kimono girl…

“Bulbasaur, use Razor Leaf!”

“Ack! My Vaporeon!”

Another one was down.

“Bulbasaur, you’ll have to fight Jolteon as well.”

No problem! I’m not scared!

Jolteon started off with pin missle, smart, but…

Then Bulbasaur used Sleep Powder.

Sleeping pokemon can’t fight after all.

“Mega Drain.”

There, that healed up the HP lost. Now, two more Razor Leaf attacks, and we’ll be all done!

Espeon and Umbreon were harder to defeat.

Pidgeot just kept using Fly so Espeon’s attacks missed.

Particularly Umbreon, he had never seen a dark-type before. But that was okay; Muk smothered it in the end.

A choking pokemon probably finds it very difficult to fight as well. Well, that’s the way things work!

The kimono girls weren’t too angry though, after he complimented them on their dancing skills, so he escaped relatively unscathed.

            Flattery really helps.

Afterwards, Ash went to find the man.

            “Here you go.”

Ash took the box. “What’s inside? A TM?”

“No, I didn’t think you’d need that. I invest in a pokemon daycare center, and they send me eggs occasionally.”

            “Oh! A pokemon egg!”

“Yes, they’re hard to find, except at breeding centers. In either case, I already have a Growlithe and Ponyta and that’s enough for me, so you take them.”

“… Them?” Ash asked in shock.

“There are two eggs. I don’t know what either of them is though.”

            “Thank you sir!”

            “No, thank you.”

Ash put the eggs in his backpack, wrapped in layers of blankets, and began walking to the Burnt tower.

Time to investigate! Maybe he could catch another ghost pokemon. He missed Haunter, but Sabrina needed him.

He wouldn’t begrudge her some happiness.

Poor girl, her life had been hard.

He was glad he wasn’t a doll though! Very glad!

Ash hadn’t walked that far in when one of the eggs began to hatch. He held it carefully, as the shell broke.

It was a strange pokemon, spiky, pink on the bottom and white on top.

But it was kind of cute.

            “Corsola!”

“Oh, so you’re a Corsola.” Ash said in interest.

            Corsola smiled. Daddy!

Well, that was the mindset of newly hatched pokemon. Bulbasaur and Squirtle had fun explaining to Ash.

            “I’m his mother?”

            Yes! Pikachu said. So cool!

“Okay! I’ll take good care of Corsola!” Ash vowed.

As a father to a pokemon, he would do his best to raise the little baby.

            It was so cute!

And no one was there to steal it away.

            That’s the spirit! Charmander cried.

            Yes, yes. Pikachu nodded.

They walked around in Burnt tower for a while longer, but saw nothing of interest. Morty wasn’t there either.

Too bad… but where was the ghost gym leader?

Ash decided maybe he’d better go off to the next town first. Hopefully that gym leader would be present…

            Hopefully.
