Chapter 6

East of Ecruteak, Ash could see the distant rooftops of a town across the river, so he and Kingler and Pikachu swam across.

Kingler’s presence kept all the wild Goldeen away.

Afterwards, Ash changed into dry clothes again and was about to enter the town, when a voice cried out.

            “Prepare for Trouble!”

            “And make it double!”

“I guess Team Rocket found me again.” Ash sighed. * Did they bug me, or what? How can they keep finding me? *

That seemed like a distinct possibility.

But then it had to be his hat or backpack.

            He decided to search later.

“Hand over that Pikachu!” Meowth yelled.

“Please…” Ash sighed. “I really don’t feel like battling.”

            “Arbok, Poison Sting!”

“Never mind.” Ash muttered, as Kingler used Crabhammer on Arbok.

“No!” Jessie gasped. “The Twerp actually got better!”

“I would hope so.” Ash muttered, as James’ Wheezing spat out Sludge. Charmander leered and then used Flamethrower.

            Wheezing exploded!

They all took cover, but then Wheezing ran into James, and since he was holding Jessie’s hand…

            Meowth gulped.

“Looks like Team Rocket’s blasting off again!”

            *Ping*

            “That was different.”

Pikachu shrugged. I’ll search. After much looking, they found a tiny black microphone stuck to Ash’s backpack, behind a pair of underwear.

            “That would explain it.”

Ash stuck the transmitter to a convenient tree and then walked onwards. Mahogany loomed ahead.

Brown and green roofs met his vision.

            “So, on to this gym?”

Ash was about to enter when he noticed the entrance was blocked. Strange. But since Lake of Rage was close…

He should go try and catch a Magikarp! Magikarp could evolve into Gyarados, and those were really powerful.

With that thought in mind, off he went to the Lake. After cruising through a lot of tall grass, there it was!

Ash tossed in the Good Rod he had lifted off Misty and waited.

            Nothing happened.

Pikachu sneezed. I think I’m getting a cold.

“That’s strange, you were fine just now.”

Still, Pikachu was looking rather peaked and drawn, so Ash decided to head back to the Center first.

That was when the waters parted and a huge Red Gyarados showed her face.

            “Pikachu, Thunder!”

Pikachu nodded, and a fainted Gyarados crashed to the side of the lake, where Ash quickly threw three Friend Balls before it was captured.

            At least it worked!

“What’s going on? There should only be Magikarps here!”

Oh, it’s a girl. Corsola said.

            “Hmm?”

Gyarados is a girl, daddy. Is she my mommy?

            Ash fell over. “I don’t think so…”

            The other pokemon laughed.

            I hope not!

            “Squirtle; quit teasing me!”

It’d be interesting to see though! Kingler added.

            Maybe?

Who knows? If a human marries a pokemon, which almost never happens, aren’t the kids human?

            How would I know?

            I don’t care.

The pokemon chattered on, while Ash blushed.

            “WAIT A MINUTE!”

            “Team Rocket? Again?”

Tyson coughed. “So you’re aware of us, eh? Just another reason I wouldn’t dream of letting you leave! Fearow, go!”

            Fearow charged…

And got a face full of water as Corsola spat out a Water Gun. Leave daddy alone!

            Even baby pokemon could battle.

“Strange, the radio wave isn’t affecting your pokemon as much.” Tyson muttered, annoyed. “Fearow! Drill Peck!”

Corsola jumped in the way, and beak hit rock.

            OWWW!!

The enemy Fearow wasn’t too happy with this new development.

That was when a thunderbolt attack came flying out of midair and knocked Fearow out completely.

            “Who?!”

“Long time no see, Tyson.” A voice said, as a red-haired trainer jumped off of his Dragonite.

            “YOU TRAITOR!”

“Yes, I suppose I am.” Lance shrugged. * After all, I used to be part of Team Rocket years ago… *

            Ash blinked.

            “Fearow, go!”

Looks like Tyson had another fearow.

            “Kairyuu, could you?”

The Dragonite’s Hyper Beam sent Fearow flying off into the hemisphere.

“Sorry.” Lance said a bit apologetically, before Dragonite slammed Tyson into a tree with his tail.

The Rocket grunt did not get up.

“Sugoi…” Ash gasped. “I think I’ve seen you before. Wait! You’re Lance, the leader of the Elite Four!”

Lance smiled. “Nice to meet you. You did a good job on that Gyarados.”

            “You saw?”

“Somewhat, I was flying in from Indigo.”

            “Oh.”

“So, Ash, would you like to help me eradicate Team Rocket from Mahogany Town?”

            “Sure!”

“Let’s go.” Lance said, nodding. Ash put on Tyson’s costume – well, it had room to spare, but he stuffed his spare underwear in to help fill it, while Lance pulled a disguise kit out of nowhere. Then, the two walked back to Mahogany.
