Chapter 5: Octopus: Miscalculations and Squeeze

            Sometimes, it snowed.

His predictions had been off, it had been five months since he had been thrust into this world. He wondered how everyone was doing.

Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, Pidgeotto… were they all right? He sincerely hoped so.

Maybe he could summon them to keep him company? That was a new idea. But how was he to accomplish the task? Would gateway spells work?
Ash could transport small items, he had managed to summon an empty poke ball and an Antidote but that was the limit so far.

            Still… it was an idea.

Ash rubbed the necklace with a black crescent moon-shaped piece of obsidian on it that he had gotten from Lance for his birthday, Red’s actually, but that was a minor detail, they were only a few days off.

It was a thoughtful gift, as obsidian amplified his power…

He could be careful not to drain Gaia then.

            Solaris snoozed on his bed.

At least his power had been increasing, even though he used a multitude of concealing charms and potions to hide it. Yet even a cloud only obscures the sun for a short period of time.

It was all a matter of time, before it ran out.

Window of opportunity, it was called in medical terms. However, Ash just wanted to go home.

Was that too much to ask?

            Lance was awfully nice though…

Almost as if… Ash couldn’t quite put his finger on the emotion, but it wasn’t hate, obviously.

            Love?

            No way!

He poured himself another glass of lemonade and drank it, wincing slightly at the bitter taste of the healing potion added inside. Healing potions weren’t exactly his best forte either, however, they worked.

But despite the bitterness, it – the potion – was warm, and it felt like fire and wool and blankets inside of him, that was a nice feeling.

            Nice? What was nice?

When have I become such a philosopher? Ash asked himself, and promptly disrupted that train of thought.

No weird thinking process! I just want to go home and that’s perfectly normal!

Screw whatever relationships might be incurred.

            Lance closed his eyes.

            “I can’t believe it…”

“What’s so hard to believe?” Jasmine asked. “It’s not that unrealistic.”

            “Well, at least he failed.”

            “Lance!”

“What?” The Flying Alchemist-mage did not cast a second glance at what had once been Leonard. “He shouldn’t have tried new life transmutation, much less human. He had chances, and this was his fourth attempt.”

“But he was one of us!”

            “The better for us then.”

“How can you be so cruel? He only wanted his mother back!”

“You take his side now, Jasmine?” Lance smirked. “How interesting…”

            “You aren’t human!”

Lance stood up. * Well, bantering insults does nothing, I should get to work on my lovely new creature. *

Ignoring Jasmine’s yells for him to stop ignoring her, Lance walked into his own workshop and dimmed the lights.

The new one didn’t like light…

It was so pretty, sleek, polished black scales, blue triangles of scales on its back, dark bands of blue around its eyes, and it flew wonderfully. What a perfect creature, darkness and flying combined.

            < Lugia? >

It stirred, recognizing the voice of its partner slash creator. < Lance? >

            < Are you well? >

            < Just a little nauseous. >

< That’s the Surf technique I taught you yesterday? >

< Yes, but I shall recover in a day or so. >

Lance mixed up another healing potion for Lugia and then left to see the rest of his pets.

His first one, dratini – now evolved!

The Dragonite waited patiently in the icy caverns he had designed. Two Dragonair, secondary but still wonderful, flew by, along with Aerodactyl and his Gyarados.

Underground, Larvitar and Pupitar buried themselves. They ate dirt, a clever touch so they would not compete with the others for fish. Kingdra swam in the frigid waters with her two babies Seadra.

Lugia was his best work so far though…

            At least Jasmine didn’t know.

This was not precisely new life creation, it was a summoning technique combined with sealing.

He did have to make a proper base for these fliers, but that was nothing. It was easy, only the blood seals were hard.

            Sealing a soul into a new body…

But that was not restricted, and Gaia allowed him freedom in this area.

He was perfectly content. The only thing that might make it better was if Red would finally get over his shyness.

            Really, was the child blind?

Or was he immune to the little advances? In any case, he would have to work on those skills.

Hmm… now how to do that?
