Chapter 2

“Oneesan, are you all right now?”

< I think so. > Sabrina replied. < So your life with Delia was only an illusion caused by Confusion and Kinesis… >

            < I know… >

< You were a completely different person without your memories, otouto. The only reason I might have suspected it was you was because of your never-give-up skill. >

< Yes, but now I actually have the means to back up my boasting. >

            < You do indeed. >

Red looked thoughtful. “I wonder how Misty and Brock will take it.”

            < Friends? >

            “Not entirely, no…”

< I should undo the spell then. >

            “Wait.”

            < Oh? >

< Misty was… very much less than civil to me. I think I should make her suffer for a few days. And Brock… well, can you send him home? >

            < Why? >

< I want to start anew, now that I know who, _I_ really am, and I don’t need distractions. >

            < Very well. >

Brock vanished and reappeared in Pewter in one piece, all his pokemon and items intact. The only thing injured as his pride…

Misty was still screaming in a tinny voice.

Red ignored her as he walked outside. Fresh air, bright sunlight, and a park. Yes, there were a few nice parks in Saffron.

Once in a secluded patch of grass, he released his pokemon.

Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Pidgeotto, and Pikachu all blinked at him curiously. He had yet to place a pokemon in his sixth slot, but now…

“Guys, I’d like you to welcome a new addition to the team.”

            Oh?

            Is it a girl?

            No, don’t ‘think so.

            “Meet Abra.”

Abra popped out of his pokemon ball, and waved.

Hi. Pidgeotto said demurely. She was a quiet pokemon.

Squirtle stood in front of Bulbasaur protectively. No one was going to steal his girl away!

Charmander laughed and shook paws with Abra. Nice to meet you.

            < Same here. >

Pikachu cocked an ear, looking at Ash quizzically. Something seemed… different. He looked more confident than usual.

Maybe it was just her imagination.

So, how did master Ash capture you?

< Ash? You mean Master Red? I’ve been with him since he was a child, but I haven’t seen him for six months. >

            Odd…

Why do you call him Master Red though? Pidgeotto frowned.

< Well, that is his true name. >

All the pokemon’s eyes shot to Ash, who nodded. < Yes. My real name was Red, but I was forced to forget it. >

You’re psychic! Squirtle stated the obvious.

            < Yes, I am… but I couldn’t remember my powers either. >

Cool! Now you have a better chance against Sabrina, right?

            Ash blushed. “Actually… I can’t fight her.”

Why not? Do you have a crush? Bulbasaur teased.

“Well, no… she’s my twin sister.”

            WHAT?!

All the pokemon stared at Ash in shock.

Pikachu was the first to recover. Wow…

I know! That’s cool, since she is pretty powerful.

Abra yawned. < I’m going back to bed. > Abras slept for most of a day anyways. He returned to his poke ball, somnambulating soon.

Ash headed back to the gym soon after, after having let his pokemon run around in the park for a while. He found hat his mom was now back to human size, Sabrina having forgiven her and therefore breaking the spell.

Good. It was nice to be a family again. Mom made a delicious hot-pot stew for dinner, and it really was yummy!

It was so nice to be home…

He slept well that night under black silken sheets, a stuffed Ralts in his arms, Pikachu and his pokemon snoozing with him.

A bed was heaven compared to camping out… mud and bugs and cold were now behind him! He could journey every day and teleport back every night and sleep in his own bed and eat dinner with his family!

            It was perfect!

The next morning, Misty had returned to normal.

“ASH KETCHUM! YOU AND YOUR STUPID IDEAS!”

            Ash tuned her out.

Sabrina watched in amusement. Their mom, Cynthia, got ready to step in before Misty dealt damage, but…

            *Shoom*

            Ash vanished.

Misty screamed as a glass of cold water upended itself over her carrot hair.

            “Serves you right…”

“Ash, you- I’m going to kill you!”

< Have to hit me first, Misty. > He enjoyed her agitated expression as she tried to figure out where his voice was coming from.

            Payback was fun
