I do have permission to borrow Disruptor’s plotbunny for a pokegenie fic. I always wanted to write one myself… ^-^ Stuff like the Surge, and magical humans probably all belongs to him…

Chapter 1

It was supposed to be an easy assignment.

Lance sighed, adjusting his dark glasses, as he looked down at the sunken volcano beneath him. Dragonite’s wings beat softly, keeping them afloat. Perhaps four or five feet of water covered the black structure, the lower depths provided life for a small variety of sea grass, but the top remained bleak and forbidding.

In the depths of the crater – not that deep, perhaps twenty feet or so, rested a veritable treasure trove of water stones.

Why hadn’t they warned him about this?

Dragonite carefully landed on the side of the volcano, only half-submerged or so. The water’s not that cold, Master Lance.

“This outfit also happens to be dry-clean only… oh, bloody hell…” Lance stripped down to his boxers and dived in, first putting his clothes in the large bag around Dragonite’s neck, fastened with a leather strap, while Dragonite kept a wary eye on him. He came up three minutes later with a handful of water stones, and then dived down again.

This process repeated itself several times, before Lance decided he didn’t want to contract pneumonia and climbed out, shivering.

They flew to the nearest town – Vermillion City, and hit the Pokemon Center for a good night’s sleep.

Lance woke up sometime the next morning, in time to see a boy talking to his Pikachu in the next bed.

“Pikachu, Nurse Joy gave me a Thunderstone. She said that if you evolve into Raichu… we might be able to beat Surge.”

I don’t want to evolve! Pikachu cried.

            “But I won’t force you.”

He still couldn’t understand pikachu language. Ash held out the Thunderstone to Pikachu, waiting.

With sudden force, Pikachu stood up and whacked the stone out of Ash’s hand with his tail. It went flying through the air, and happened to hit Lance in the forehead, between his eyes.

            “Ow…”

The Dragon Master couldn’t say anything else though, because that was when he began to glow.

“I’m sorry – huh? What’s going on?” Ash asked, panicking.

            Pikachu stared in surprise.

            “He’s a pokemon?”

            Pikachu shrugged.

Glow… glow…glowing… Ash winced, hoping he hadn’t caused someone to die. A thunderstone couldn’t do that much damage, right?

Abruptly, the glow died down. Ash stared in surprise as golden eyes snapped open on him.

It was a girl dressed in what looked like Princess Jasmine’s outfit from Aladdin, except it was dark blue. A dark blue bikini was attached to transparent light blue sleeves and billowing harem pants. Dark red hair fell to her shoulders, but the startling thing was… what in the world… wings? Those looked attached too, and kind of shiny.

            Ash whipped out his pokédex.

“Unknown pokemon. Name: Lance Dragyn. Type: Ghost/dragon. Level: 5. Attacks: Disable, Thunderwave, Twister, Night Shade.”

“… That name sounds kind of familiar.” Ash mused.

“Genie, genie, genie.” Lance said softly.

            “I can’t understand you…”

             “Genie, genie?”

            “I wish I could… I’m sorry…”

            Lance’s eyes glowed blue. “Genie.”

            Ash blinked.

So what did you want to say?

“Eek! You’re still saying those genies, but I can understand you!”

Lance sweatdropped. What happened? Why am I dressed like this?

“Er… well, Pikachu hit you with a Thunderstone.”

            A thunderstone? But…

A ball in Lance’s carrying case glowed and opened, revealing Dragonite. Hello Master Lance. My, that’s an interesting outfit.

Dragonite, will you please shut up and give me an explanation. What in Lugia’s name is going on here?

Touchy, touchy! Dragonite coughed. As you should know, there used to be some humans with pokemon powers, in a sense. Magical humans. Faeries, nymphs, sprites, that sort of thing…

Go on. Lance said, as Ash listened intently.

I assume that your bloodline was pretty close to those magical humans, or… maybe it was because fishing up all those water stones yesterday already exposed you to lots of radiation. In any case, the thunderstone was enough to change you into a pokemon.

            Great… now, why am I a girl?

            Er…

Spit it out, Dragonite. Spit it out.

I hate to break it to you, Master Lance, but you’ve always been biologically female.

            WHAT?! That’s impossible!

Only girls can have the Viridian power you have… I suppose someone else cast the illusion on you, so you thought you were a boy.

            Um… excuse me?

            Both pokemon turned to pikachu.

Viridian power? Lance, you’re an empath?

Yes, I could understand pokemon perfectly well before all of this came along. Don’t know where it came from though…

Ash blinked. “What’s the Viridian Power? And what’s all this stuff about magical humans?”
In essence, when you hit Master Lance with that Thunderstone, you caused her to evolve into a pokemon. As for the Viridian Power, every ten years the forest grants its special powers to a child, letting them understand pokemon’s hearts and heal their wounds… so that’s another dose of added magic right there.

Lucky me. Lance sighed. * So what benefits does this new form have? *

She crossed her legs as she sat on the bed.

“I’m really sorry!” Ash apologized frantically. “I didn’t mean to turn you into a pokemon!”
Can I have some time alone please?

            Ash nodded.

He and Pikachu left her alone and went downstairs to ponder Vermillion City gym strategy.

Lance floated a few inches above the bed, not noticing as she tried to get a hold of her thoughts. * So this boy I’ve never met hit me in the head with a Thunderstone and turned me into a pokemon, I’ve just figured out I’m actually a girl, not a boy like I’ve been for the past fifteen years, I can’t talk in normal human language anymore, and I have to grant wishes? This is just peachy! *

            Still…

There was _one_ benefit. Pokemon did not have to deal with what is commonly known as stress. As pokemon league champion, Lance had a lot of stress. However, another benefit was that no one had ever seen ‘Lance’, because no one had made it past Lorelei when battling the Elite Four.

Still, now that he – she was a pokemon, what should she do?

If I got out I’ll risk capture with every step… this Ash kid doesn’t look too bad… maybe he’ll train me until I can control this power myself?

It wasn’t the best situation in the world, but she couldn’t think of anything else.

About half an hour later, Ash came upstairs, followed by Samuel Oak and a Kadabra.

“Good god, what happened?” Oak gaped. “Ash said there’d been an accident with a thunderstone, but…”

“Genie, genie, genie, genie, genie, genie, genie.”

            “I’m sorry, I can’t understand you.”

“She said that she turned into a pokemon.”

“She? Yes…” Lance glared at Professor Oak as he approached. “Genie!”

            “That was ‘hands off’.”

“Ash, how come you can understand her?”

“Um… let me think… oh! I said ‘I wish I could understand you,’ I think.”

“Fascinating.” Oak murmured. “Well, I’m afraid I can’t think of any on the spot solutions. The best thing to do is to keep her as your pokemon for now.”

            “WHAT?”

“Ash, if you were any other trainer, you’d be thinking about how much money you could make with a genie.”

“But that’s not fair. I didn’t mean to transform her, what if she loses her title? I’d never forgive myself.”

“I know! Dense you may be, but at least you have a good heart. Lance, er, I trust that you don’t mind going with Ash?”

            “Genie, genie, genie.”

“She says she doesn’t have much choice in the matter.”

“Well, er… yes. I’ll notify Agatha and she’ll take over while we sort this mess out. I’ll call a few other researchers…”

Then, Oak and Kadabra were gone.

“Well, Lance, I’ll try to be a good trainer for you.” Ash said. What a role reversal! All those years spent watching the Elite Four on TV, and now, one of them was his pokemon…

He’d be a good trainer though! He promised.
