Chapter 2

Ash suddenly realized he didn’t have any poke balls. Also, if Lance wandered around like this, someone was bound to notice… what to do?

“Lance, I don’t have any poke balls.”

Lance pointed to her backpack. There’s a few in one of the side pockets.

Ash nodded, before he threw the ball. It sucked Lance in, an instant. Then, he added the Great Ball to his poke belt before walking out.

Pikachu and his other pokemon were having lunch in the downstairs cafeteria. Misty was nowhere to be seen, but Brock was deep in conversation with a blonde girl on pokemon trading.

            Ash sighed.

            What’s wrong?

He nearly jumped, before realizing Lance must have done the wish for him to understand all pokemon. Charmander looked at him expectantly.

            “I don’t know what to do…”

            Is she pretty?

Bulbasaur whacked Squirtle with a vine. Don’t you dare! Someone was a little jealous…

            Squirtle sighed.

            She was… so touchy sometimes.

Bulbasaur looked at him sideways, and he smiled. Still, he did admire her feisty nature… maybe opposites do attract.

Why can’t you train her like you train us?

            “Well… it’s different.”

            How?

Pikachu explained to his other four pokemon, while Ash helped himself to the spaghetti. He was on his way back up to his room when he realized he had forgotten to feed Lance.

Ack! How inconsiderate of him! And right after he had promised to be a good trainer too!
He quickly went downstairs and got her a tuna salad, not sure what she would want, before pressing the ball to open.

Lance appeared, but she was fast asleep.

Sighing, Ash waited for her to wake up as he covered the food with aluminum foil.

Lance didn’t wake until a few hours later.

            Ash?

“I brought lunch… are you sick? Did I hurt you when you transformed?”

No… granting wishes takes energy. I am not used to channeling that energy in this particular way.

            “Oh.”

He awkwardly handed over the tuna salad. “Um… so how long does my wish last?”

Until you cancel it. Lance said, as she began devouring the tuna.

Dragons live on fish after all…

Don’t worry, I’m getting used to the energy drain.

Ash took the empty plate back and nodded. It would be nice to understand his pokemon. On the other hand, he didn’t want to take advantage of Lance.

“What’s it like inside the poke ball?”

            Well… it’s pretty spacious, so far I have my room… there’s a pool there for my pokemon, and a beach-ish area…

            “I see.”

Lance looked out the window. So you want the Thunder badge.

            “How did you know?”

Why else would you be talking about defeating Surge?

Ash blushed. “I lost. Pikachu just couldn’t keep up with Raichu… I wish there was a way… but…”

There’s one thing you haven’t thought of though. Lance implied, as no magic needed for this wish, yet.

            “Hmm?”

Surge evolved his Raichu right after capture, right?

            Ash nodded.

Then, it’s impossible for Raichu to learn the attacks normal pikachu have. Slam, Quick Attack, Swift, and stuff like that. It’s trading speed for power.

“So… you think that maybe if I can up Pikachu’s speed, I can win?”

            Worth a try, ne…

Ash smiled. “Thank you Lance. Do you want to stay outside for a bit longer?”

I’ll wait here. Nurse joy won’t come up, right?

            “No.”

            Okay.

While Ash and Pikachu went off to fight Spearow in the grass outside, the rest of Ash’s pokemon trouped up to keep her company.

Never thought I’d see the day, when a human turned into a pokemon. Squirtle laughed.

            How are you holding up?

            Not too bad.

That’s good! I’m sure you’ll like Ash as a trainer.

He seemed nice; otherwise I wouldn’t have picked him.

Be careful though, he does tend to do stupid things. Pidgeotto laughed. Like using a Caterpie to fight me.

Butterfree fluttered in the window. While the others had been eating, he had been out getting nectar and pollinating flowers.

Such was his species’ feeding habit.

We have a new team member?

            Yes!

What type of pokemon are you?

            Dragon… actually, I’m a genie.

Figures. Charmander laughed. I never thought I’d meet you face to face, Dragon Master.

Stranger things have happened. Lance said, as they shook paws.

So now you’re his pokemon? Bulbasaur asked.

            Lance nodded.

Ah well… welcome to the team.

The next morning, it was off to the Vermillion City Gym.

“You know, Lance.” Ash said, as they were about to leave the Pokemon Center. “I wish there was a way you could come.”

            Lance laughed. “Thank you.”

Her eyes glowed blue, before her appearance shifted, the wings vanishing, and the ‘harem girl’ outfit changing into a pair of blue jeans and a black t-shirt with a Dragonair plastered on the front.

            “Oh!”

“Yes, I can grant your wishes, remember? Just be careful what you wish for…”

            Ash smiled. “Arigato!”

Pikachu jumped onto Lance’s head. Are the wings real?

            “Of course they are.”

            “You can talk now!”

“Well, I got to manipulate this wish, didn’t I? So I decided to give myself back the ability to speak human language.”

            “Nice!”

            “Aren’t they heavy?”

“Not really.” Lance said thoughtfully. “They’re kind of steel, I think. But they’re dragon wings.”

            “Figures.”

“By the way, I wanted to ask if you were traveling alone.”

“Oh no! Brock and Misty are also traveling with me.”

“What? Why aren’t they at their gyms?”

“Er… well… let’s say I had an accident with Misty’s bike, so until I pay her back, she’s following me around.”

            “I see.”

“And Brock’s dad took over Pewter… but I haven’t seen Brock around.”

“He’s probably chasing another girl. I’m just glad it’s not me…”

Really though, the truth about her being a girl made sense. Actually, Lance had never been attracted to any girls while under the impression she was male, and had actually believed herself to be gay since she liked guys, but now, it made sense.

When I find out who did this to me…

“I do wish I had the money to pay for Misty’s bike though…”

Lance sighed. “Wish granted… please think about it though.”

Misty was surprised when a gift-wrapped bike landed next to her. She had been busy shopping.

“Sorry so late? This is from Ash? Where’d he get the money? Oh well…”

She went back to her shopping.

Ash took a deep breath as he walked into the gym and faced Surge. “Let’s do it!”
