Yep! Plotbunny fic! This one jumped me while I was practicing piano. But hey, who am I to deny a plotbunny? What if the pokemon really did take over the humans, after they had had enough?

Title: A halfway role reversal

Prologue

            “Kairyuu! Hyper Beam!”

Voices screamed in shrill terror as the Dragonite fired the energy beam from its mouth, destroying the city.

< And so, the last stronghold of rebellion falls. > A proud voice said.

Lugia’s eyes were warm as they rested on his Chosen, who was commandeering the attack.

            < Hai, Lugia-san. >

            < You do well. >

The child smiled, cruelty juxtaposed with brilliant golden eyes. < Hai. > His steel wings were folded neatly against his back, a symbol of duty.

            Lugia’s Chosen one.

< Let us go, the others will finish. > Lugia said, as Lance jumped onto his back, recalling Dragonite in a flash of light, and they flew off.

It was so… simple, in a way.

Humanity had finally gone too far, treating pokemon as slaves and using them for experiments, cloning and messing with the balance of nature while at the same time destroying the environment.

            The legendaries had had enough.

In less than a year, all of the major cities in Kanto, Johto, and Houen had been destroyed. While Lugia specially summoned his Chosen from the sleep of death, and opened the gates to the dream realm, the others had annihilated the human population and all evidence of their heinous works.

Now, small pockets of rebellion were left here and there, but the main thing was that earth was under control of its rightful owners again.

The islands and sea re-teemed with life, the only exception the Indigo continent, which had been left a smoldering ruin; a stark reminder of humanity’s sin.

And it was on Indigo the remnants stayed.

Idiots, Lugia thought. Trying to control what you cannot. We allowed you to capture us, and we worked as partners, until you took advantage of our kindness and treated us as brainless slaves.

            That was your mistake.

Our lives are our own, not yours to run, and now… you pay.

            Lance sneezed.

            < Cold, Chosen? >
            < A little. >

Lugia sighed inwardly, remembering that despite Lance’s powers and memories, he was still just a child.

            He was probably cold.

Concentrating a bit of psychic energy, a cloak of white draped itself over Lance’s body. < Better? >

            < Hai! Arigato, Lugia-san! >

Of course, the child-like bit still stayed, he didn’t recall Lance being quite this hyper, but he had a working, powerful Chosen, and that was the main point.

Plus, Honou was working on calling his Chosen from sleep of death too.

            So that was good.

With a contended grin, Lugia’s eyes glowed and they wound up back in Whirl Islands.

            Mission accomplished.

* = Sleep of death is what Chosen go into when their duty is completed after a certain amount of time, if they don’t die in the course of duty. There are, believe it or not, times when Chosen are not needed, so they rest and regain their energy.

Chapter 1 – 4 years later

“Now, Ash-chan, what did I tell you about humans?”

Ash looked at the lollipop Lance was holding, his reward if he answered all the questions right.

“They are evil because they tried to kill and destroy the pokemon. They deserve their punishment.” He recited.

“Very good.” Lance said, as he smiled.

Ash was younger, but so… cute. That might be because Honou did not send him out on the missions. And it wasn’t as if he had any ‘human’ company anyway. Oh, he knew Ash wasn’t human, Ash was Chosen like him, pokemon through and through.

Ash had talons, while he didn’t. And he had feathery wings like Articuno and some of the other fliers.

Plus, they both wore armor. Spelled.

            They were mages and Chosen.

They just looked kind of human.

Besides, with his wings and claws and blades, he wasn’t human anyway.

“Okay, next question. Did humans and pokemon ever live in harmony?”

“Yes. For three hundred and eleven years, called the ‘Age of Innocence’.”

“How did the Age of Innocence break?”

“The humans were greedy and lusted for power, so they began killing and force-breeding and capturing the pokemon. For a while, the pokemon ignored this, thinking it would be unfair to punish the whole for a few, but after Moltres the first phoenix was killed, they struck back.”

“Quite good.” Lance said, tossing Ash the lollipop. “I think we are finished for today.”

            “Yatta!”

Ash bit into the caramel treat happily.

He had been with Lance-chan for almost a year, ever since he had woken from the sleep of death himself.

He couldn’t remember much, really. Honou-san said that was normal.

Lance taught him, small magic spells and weaponry, a little at a time.

He knew he had power, just wasn’t too sure how to utilize it.

            Still, time would come.

The Chosen would fly again when the time was right.
