Chapter 37 – Syaoran

I feel watched. Of course I’m being watched. They think I’m dangerous. Idiots! Magic by itself isn’t dark or light; it’s how you use it!

            Of course, they won’t listen.

I want to get away from here. But where can I go? Not home, not Tomoeda…

            “Yue…”

It’s late at night, so he appears and holds me. I know it’s childish, but I don’t care. I want to feel safe…

Moon magic surrounds us both, and it’s safe. The moon will not betray me. The sun might, the stars may, but the moon is faithful to me and me alone…

            And I am happy…

Yesterday, Harry released the basilisk. I don’t think he did it on purpose, but then we found out that Lockhart had been petrified…

            I guess I’m glad he’s not dead.

Well; that showed a whole lot of people! Hermione burst into tears along with most of the other girls. Can’t they see what a fake he was? Apparently not.

Even a genius can be selectively blind…

            What?!

No! what are they doing? They can’t do this to me! I’m only thirteen! Please don’t take me there-!
The Dementors come, and they start… no! Someone please make them go away!

            *FLASH*

            “I hate you Syaoran!”

No, Sakura, please, it’s not my fault! I didn’t mean to hurt Tomoyo! My arms – I can’t move! Who’s doing this?

            Don’t hurt me…

I have to get out of here…

            *FLASH*

“Get up, boy!” Elder Li Ping kicks me in the ribs as we train underneath a waterfall. “Useless brat! How you ever got to be Clan heir is beyond me! The judges must have been biased!”

I slowly rise to my feet… I’m only, five or six in this memory…

“Now summon the dragon and do it right!”

I pick up an ofuda. “Water Dragon, come forth!”

            The dragon doesn’t come…

She kicks me again. “Stupid brat! I’m wasting my time here! Try again!”

            *FLASH*

“Why didn’t you get a perfect score on your Japanese test?”

            “I-I’m sorry, mother…”

“How can you possibly prove your worth as heir if you don’t try hard enough? For this, you’ll be confined to your room for the next two days. And study!”

            “Yes mother…”

“Don’t ‘yes mother’ me, do it!”

            *FLASH*

            “You have failed…”

And then there’s excruciating pain as a million blades of ice slam into me, the magic of the Time card wearing off…

            *FLASH*

            “Ow!”

“Don’t complain! Only through practice and diligence can you become a true swordsman. Pick up your sword again.”

            Elder Li Ming is glaring…

I pick up my sword, trying to ignore the cut he made on my arm that caused me to drop it, and take position again…

            *FLASH*

            Darkness… all around me…

            *FLASH*

Stop! Please! Let me out! Please! I didn’t mean to be such a bad child! I’m trying my best, I really am, don’t hit me any more!

My sister looks down at me with disgust. She knows.

Oh my god, she knows that I’m not her true brother.

She slaps me across the face and then wipes her hand on the back of my robes. “Useless.”

            And I’m alone…

            *FLASH*

Suddenly, all the darkness fades… I open my eyes, and Light is standing in front of me protectively, golden light keeping all those horrible, horrible creatures away. They’re evil… no wonder Harry doesn’t like them!

            Such horrible memories…

Dumbledore is staring at me in shock. But I must get out of here… must… I sprint towards my room, now, the Dash card helping me…

“Yuki!” Harry looks up. “What’s wrong?”

“Dementors. Here. Castle. They’re taking us to Azkaban.”

He gasps as he rapidly throws his things in his trunk. “Take me with you.”

            “Yes. I will.”

As the door bursts open, I activate the magic of the Gateway card – sending us to another dimension for another year…

Please let this one be safer…

They’re screaming, calling us traitors, murderers, but we’re going to get out of here…

            We’ll run far, far away.

It will be all right. As long as I have Yue and the cards, everything will work out just fine…

            I have to believe that.

Power will protect me. I cannot afford to be weak any longer. I’ll learn all the magic I can…

            Let me out…

            Let me fly…

            Spare us…

Harry blacks out as the teleport finishes, and we’re… in front of a castle. A nice, lovely, expensive-looking castle.

            Well, here goes.

I walk up to the door and knock, while Yue carries Harry… and the door opens to a familiar face.

            “… Clow-san?!”

Yes. I really don’t like Ron. I don’t like how Dumbledore and Eriol are manipulative either.
