Syaoran = Yuki, Yuki’s the fake name…

Chapter 5 – Harry Potter

I knew something was up when Dudley came home crying yesterday, saying someone had beaten him up. This is Dudley, the oversized, overweight ball of flab that is my cousin. I doubt anyone could have beaten him up. He said it was some strange kid with brown hair and a suitcase who knew karate.

Aunt Petunia gave me this horrible glare, like it was my fault. Ever since they found out I was a wizard they’ve been jumping at me if possible, but still!

I didn’t cause a boy to appear! I don’t know any magic like that yet…

I saw him while I was out this afternoon though. He was at the public library, looking through a section on Ancient History. Well, at least I thought it was the same boy, since he didn’t look familiar, and I’ve seen just about everyone in this neighborhood before a couple of times.

            “Hello.”

He looked up, and it was odd, because he had green eyes and messy black hair like mine. That’s not exactly common, is it? I might have felt a little scared, but I think he realized he was making me uncomfortable, because he just smiled.

            “I’m Li Yuki.”

            “Harry Potter.”

He nodded, and turned back to his book. He didn’t recognize my name, so I didn’t think he was a wizard, but something just seemed to indicate that he was. Odd. He had a slight accent though, so he wasn’t British.

I took another look. He was wearing jeans and a green sweater, and on the ring finger of his left hand was this silver ring with a blue gem that looked pretty cool. Something made me ask about it. I don’t know what. Can all odd things be explained by the means of magic?

            “What is that?” I asked.

“A present.” He replied, almost angry with me for asking. Maybe it was something personal.

            “Are you new here?”

“I suppose you could say I just moved here.”

“Ah. Are you going to Stonewall High then?” I think I felt a brief stab of sympathy for the boy. I didn’t want to go there…

            “No.”

So maybe he’s going to Smeltings… I’d better not ask. I just had a horrible image of him in Dudley’s clothes. Not good…

He’s still looking, but not really, he’s just flipping through the indexes, I took a peek and saw it was ‘C’ and ‘R’, but since he didn’t seem to be too happy, I left him alone and went downstairs.

Half an hour later, he left the library looking utterly dejected. I haven’t seen him since. Besides, I have to go to King’s Cross Station tomorrow!

And so, I was understandably surprised when I met Yuki there, carrying his suitcase and looking like he’d fallen through a tornado.

            “What happened to you?”

“I don’t know.” He said sourly. “I woke up this morning with an owl tapping at the window of my motel room with this letter, a train ticket, and a tiny box. The next thing I know, I’m here.”

            “That’s odd.”

“I know.” He shakes his head. “I’ve never heard of Hogwarts before.”

“Hogwarts?” This is great! I’ll actually know someone!

“Yes. Do you know what I’m talking about?”

            “You’re a wizard!”

He looks almost frightened. “Me? A wizard – but I can’t be! I!”

“Don’t worry, I didn’t know I was a wizard either until I got my letter and Hagrid told me.” I’m trying to reassure him, but he looks even more panicked and he’s staring at that ring like it holds the answer to the world.

“But I don’t have any of the supplies, and I can’t pay for this-and-.” He stops short. I stop short. The tiny box in his hand lands on the ground and turns into a trunk. A trunk, which, a quick peek ascertains, has all the supplies that he’ll need, except a wand? Odd. I look at him again.

He looks absolutely freaked out, like the world has come to an end. But we can’t waste time standing here. It’s ten-fifty and I still don’t know how to get to Platform nine-and-three-quarters.

That’s when we see the redheads with the owl.

So, after some conversation, we find out that you have to run through the barrier to get to platform Nine and Three-Quarters, which is interesting, and we find an empty compartment on the train, and then Ron Weasley comes in.

Yuki is still staring at that ring, and if I didn’t know better, I could have sworn he’s talking to it.

Well, magic exists. Maybe it’s like a phone…

            “Are you really Harry Potter?”

The look on my face must say it all. Why would I want to impersonate someone else? This is odd, though, and I kind of wish I didn’t know about Voldemort, because, who knows, if not for him, my parents might still be alive…

Shoot. I’m wallowing in self-pity now. Must cut that out.

So I nod, and Ron smiles, saying that Fred and George are practical jokers, and then I show him the scar to prove it.

It must be nice to have wizard brothers and a wizarding family.

            Yuki looks tense again.

Ron finally notices there’s someone else in the compartment and starts talking to him. “I’m Ron Weasley.”

            “Li Yuki.”

“So your name is Li?” He looks puzzled for a moment, and then laughs.

“I forgot that in England, your family name goes last. I’m Yuki.”

            “Nice to meet you.”

“What about you? Are you from a Muggle family like Harry?”

Yuki looks flabbergasted. “Muggle?” He finally asks.

            “You know, non-magical.”

There’s the briefest hesitation and I could have sworn he was about to say no, but he says yes with a dead voice.

“Well, don’t worry. You’ll catch up soon enough.”

That didn’t seem to reassure him. Finally, I hear a whisper out of him.

            “I can’t go to magic school…”

“Huh? Did you run away from home?” Ron asks with interest. He gives the slightest of nods.

            This could be interesting…

However, Yuki doesn’t seem to want to talk anymore, and says he has to go to the bathroom and leaves.

Ron’s nice though, so pretty soon we’re chatting away like old friends while the fields go past and I want to laugh, because I’m finally free of the Dursleys!

I bet Harry was OOC. I apologize. Maybe I should just write the rest of the fic from Syaoran’s POV or something…
