Chapter 5

“I want to kiss you.” Red whispered, as he watched lightning dance over her body. She lay in bed, picture-perfect innocence fast asleep, unless of course, you noticed that her eyes were wide and silver.

They reminded him of a mirror.

Agatha came in, with a frown. “She’s still asleep?”

“Yes, but she should be waking up soon, right?”

“I dearly hope so…” Agatha said cryptically. Red blinked.

            “She’s not dead, is she?”

“No, I would be able to tell were that the case. She is not dead.”

            “Thank Lugia.”

Agatha hid a smile, as she nodded. “I’ll watch over her now. You haven’t been sleeping well for the past week.”

Red nodded. He could trust Agatha not to murder him in his sleep, and she was an excellent cook… even if she was a bit scary. He left the room and headed for a shower and sleep while Agatha mixed up herb tinctures and mysterious potions and waited for her granddaughter to wake up.

            Things might be interesting…

Lance yawned as she fought her way towards wakefulness drowsily. She blinked as she looked around. This place was certainly different…

            She was back home?

Yes, she was, but she did not recognize this room. The coverlet was a rich burgundy color, and not more than a few paces away, Grandmother Agatha sat in her seat, nodding off, a half-completed spool of white wool in her hands.

Lance eased herself out of bed and headed off for a shower, feeling as though she would need one badly.

There was a horribly grimy feeling in her body. She shook herself. What was wrong?

Agatha woke when she heard water running. Spotting the empty bed, she poured herself a cup of now-cold tea and smiled warmly.

It seemed that Lance had survived yet again.

“How long was I out?” Lance asked, as she walked out of the bathroom, toweling her hair. Agatha raised an eyebrow, but did not comment.

“Two weeks. We were a bit worried. Red was practically frantic… Clair had to chain him up.”

Lance’s eyes winked as she grinned impishly. “Chain him up? I rather like the sound of that.”

“You would.” The Ghost Master nodded. “Hungry?”

            “Starved.”

“It has been a while. I’ll go whip something up.”

Lance nodded in agreement, and then went to change. She palmed the entrance to her room, watching as the steel doors slid open. No one in her family was allowed in her precious sanctum and even Red was barred from entrance without permission.

She frowned as she began pulling her clothing on. At least it would save her the need to bandage herself, but she had to wonder how long this change would last.

It must be caused by the fusion with Zapdos…

Well, until then, she could enjoy it… and perhaps throw a few public appearances to… but no, even if she looked different from her false self, there was no point in taking unnecessary risks. She finished buttoning up her jacket and went to find Red.

It was laughably easy. Her Viridian Power felt so powerful… but underneath it’s calm exterior raged destruction. So much destruction…

            She liked it.

Agatha raised her eyebrows as she came back out. Her eyes traced planes of lean muscle and she blinked.

For the first time in twenty years, Lance saw her grandmother stunned speechless.

“I did not actually expect such an incident. What are you going to tell him?”

“I think I’ll leave him to figure it out or himself.” She laughed.

“He’ll be quite… how shall I put it. Distraught?”

“Oh, I would not be so sure of that. I’m quite sure he swings both ways.”

“… You would take advantage of that.”

“I have no idea how long this lasts, but I suppose I shall give my body a few days to adjust before I hunt down Moltres.” Gold glittered in her eyes for a moment, as her voice sharpened, changed.

Yes, I am sure I can persuade her to our side.

I would not be so sure of that, Zapdos. It is a bit difficult to seduce someone in the body of a halfing.

Perhaps, but that is wherein the challenge lies.

And what of afterwards, when the melding is complete? You will only exist in the Realm of Dreams. Here, you will be but a presence, an aura, nothing but a ghost…

So? If she loves me, she shall endure my punishment.

Then you trust overmuch in love.

Oh, you’re just bitter because I didn’t love you, Articuno!

            Hmph. Flatterer.

Lance snapped back to her body, feeling slightly disoriented as two legendary presences settled down.

“Could you warn me first?” She asked somewhat plaintively.

There was no response, and Lance shrugged. “Well, do notify me if you’re going to use my body for any ‘mating procedures’, all right? Because I would like to know in advance.”

With that, she sashayed down the hall, feeling the warm swirl of her black cloak behind her.

Red woke up groggily, only registering the pressure of soft lips on his. Shrugging, he surrendered to the inevitable and deepened the kiss as his sleepy brain fuzzily tried to process what was going on.

He met silver eyes as his eyesight kicked in and grinned. So she was awake! ...And giving him a hell of a wake-up call too, he thought, as he felt a hand slip into his pants. He grinned.
