Chapter 7

Agatha was waiting with dinner when they emerged from the shower, thoroughly clean and satiated, for the time being. She gave them a knowing smile but said no more. For that, Red was very grateful. He did not want to explain what had just happened, even though it was obvious. It was a bit difficult to walk without grimacing, but he managed.

Lance had promised to make it up to him, though with how sore he felt, he might have to take a rain check on that promise.

He might recover faster, but Lance had better endurance in the long run!

They ate dinner – delicious, thanked Agatha, and headed back to Lance’s room. Red curled into her blankets as she went online to check her email.

After all, Lorelei or – no, Bruno had defected, Red called from the bed. There was no message from Lorelei.

Lance assumed she was safely ensconced at her island. One of the chains quite far from Kanto…

Well, it mattered little. She had no desire for world destruction yet… and after all, she still had to upgrade Moltres.

Red laughed. She thought in terms of computers too much.

Lance threw an eraser at him, and Red blocked it with one of her pillows. The Leader of the Elite Four raised her eyebrows, before she put the machine on standby.

“I believe you have declared war.”

It was nearing 2 A.M. when Clair shouted down the hall that some people had to sleep because they had gyms to run in the morning. The two had apologized and then cuddled and fallen fast asleep.

            Peace.

Two days later, they headed towards the twisted caves of Victory Road in search of Moltres. As they walked along, Red watched in amazement as Lance created electric charges and ice particles from her fingers and focused them into attacks he was familiar with.

She was almost like a pokemon… well, she kind of was one now. He did not mind. As long as her personality did not change, he wouldn’t care.

He had proved that rather loudly and enthusiastically over the course of their short vacation.

Lance froze another wild Graveler into an ice block and grinned. “You like what you see, Champion?”

            “Oh, indubitably.” Red beamed.

“I am glad my performance is not disappointing you.”

“Trust me, I would be the last person to discount your technique.”

Lance slammed down a wild Golbat with a Thunderbolt, and looked around. She was sure Moltres was close by, but where?

A blast of flame roared overhead and she hurriedly ducked.

Zapdos! What are you doing with her?

            M-Moltres! I can explain…

            You faithless bird!

It’s your own fault for being such a bad lay!

Why I ought to kill you!

            Step out of this, Articuno!

            As if! Blizzard!

You’re weak to my element! Fire Blast!

            Eek! Um… Thunderwave?

Bolts of colored light flew everywhere. Finally, Lance seized control over her body, released Gyarados, and ordered a Surf attack. Moltres dodged easily, but fell straight into the Thunderwave Lance had prepared.

“Now,” She said with a half-smile, “Let us discuss things rationally.”

After several moments of squawking, Moltres sulkily allowed Lance to pet her. With a dazzling flash of flame, she merged.

Lance grinned at Red before she pitched forwards in a dead faint. Gyarados easily caught her before she hit the ground, and turned to Red.

She’s much too hot for you to touch. She might burn you to ashes… but I have protection with my scales, so I will take her home.

            “Sounds good to me.”

They flew Lance home quickly, no more to be done. Agatha took one look at the front gate and shook her head.

“You will need to bring her to a place with ice… or a lot of water…”

            “Would Seafoam Islands work?”

“That is… actually, that is an excellent idea.”

“All right.” Ash hopped on Gyarados’s body near the tail, and off they flew towards the distant Seafoam Islands.

“Keep her cool and hydrated.” Agatha warned as they flew off. “She’ll be burning from the inside, so…”

“I know! Treat her like she has a fever, right?”

            “Close enough.”

Once at Seafoam Islands, Red found an unused natural spring. He hesitated, not sure if he should undress Lance or not, but Gyarados simply flicked his tail and dumped her into the water. Steam rose from her form. Red gulped.

            “That is so scary…”

You get used to it. The water serpent yawned. Well, I’m off to take a nap now. If something happens, don’t hesitate to wake me up…

“I’m surprised. I thought you and the others except for Ptera were…”

Gone? We would never desert our Master.

Red nodded, thinking of Pika. No, it was better off this way. Pika did not know of his relationship with Lance, and he wanted to keep it that way.

Pika might believe him corrupted… and if that happened, Pika would attack!

It was far safer to keep some things secret.

He knew that Poli and Aeroy knew about this relationship, but they approved… speaking of Poli…

He released his Poliwrath, who blinked.

            No battle, Master?

“No… I would like you to keep an eye on her though.”

Poliwrath peered into the water and nodded. Why is she there? I thought humans did not like water – wait! She is not human!

            “No, I am afraid not.”

Poliwrath swept a bow. I will be honored to watch over a legendary, Master!

            “Thank you!”

Red kept watch for a few moments, but then he retrieved his pokédex and began to fiddle with it. It was time to brush up on some knowledge, especially since Blue had sent him data on new pokémon types in the Johto region.

            How cool…

He loved learning about pokémon, but he loved the thrill of battle too much just to sit back and be a Researcher. Green might be good at that though.

Speaking of his friends… there was an email from Oak?

            He opened it.

Odd how on some days, your inspiration flows like a river and on other days it’s like a slow churn of mud. That was really not poetic!

Anyways, Lance’s dragons didn’t leave her. They just kind of waited while she did her thing. Kind of mindlessly loyal…

I liked writing that sex scene in the earlier chapter! ^^
