You know, I suddenly cannot remember what things stand for. It is most irritating

Chapter 4 – OC POV

She looks around their tent at the pokémon running around freely, and she does not understand how anyone could have lived in the crowded cities her great-grandparents used to talk about. Her friend the Poochyna runs at her heels, and up ahead, the man is leading the Gyarados express that can hold ten people.

            She’s going to be late!

She hops on just as it is about to take off. Every week, the Gyarados swims across the sea and heads to Kanto, the birthplace of the new World Order.

            She is so exited!

Her old great-grandfather is also coming along, but he looks angry, unlike all the other joyful passengers. She wonders why, but does not bother to ask yet.

There, at the other side, there are more people. They all wear the long robes of the Kanto citizens.

She hears her grandfather suck in a breath just as the man steering the Gyarados lets out a shout of joy.

“Citizens, we are truly blessed today! The Elite of Kanto are here to greet us personally!”

            The Elite?

The ones who made everything possible for people and pokémon to live in harmony? She has to see!

There they are – the two standing off to the side, and then the other two. Two men and two women, a man with dark red hair and another man with black hair, but they don’t look old at all…

She remembers in her lessons that the Elite of Kanto, at least the eldest two are almost like immortals. She claps her hands excitedly and the one with red eyes in the red robe actually winks and waves, and everyone on the Gyarados cheers.

            Except grandfather!

The woman in the dark purple dress leaning on a walking stick has a Gengar accompanying her, and the other pretty woman in a light blue robe is posing with her Dewgong for portrait painting.

            She’ll buy one later.

That must be Mistress Lorelei and Mistress Agatha, the other half of the Elite! Mistress Agatha works with ghost pokémon, and Mistress Lorelei with Ice, and Master Lance and Master Red – well, Master Lance works with dragons, which is just so cool, but Master Red is said to be able to tame any kind of pokémon.

            How cool!

The pokémon of Kanto are so different from those in Houen!

Of course, you don’t call the Elite by name. That would be rude. After all, the Elite are… well, Elite! They’re higher than humans but they’re not obnoxious about it. At least, that’s what her teacher Ms. Prism said.

But you can tell that they’re different.

After all, you call the Elite by Title. Usually, you just nod politely and call them by their Mastery – Ice Mistress, Ghost Mistress, or Dragon Master… and for Red, Pokémon Master.

She wants to be cool like Red, but it’s not like they need new Elite.

Another girl steps up with a smile. She’s a lesser Elite, but still Elite. Water Mistress, they call her, and she gives an embarrassed bow. She’s not wearing her formal robes, and if not for the tattoos under her eyes, you would not be able to tell she was Elite. It’s nice.

This is Elite Leader Misty, she remembers from her lessons. Once long ago, when there was a gym system, she ran the gym in Cerulean. Of course now, there are no such things, only Healing Centers and wandering nomads all over the place, and it’s safer that way, isn’t it?

            Of course it is!

One man is opening the gates to a little petting zoo, so she pays the necessary coins to enter and her eyes light up.

There are lots of baby pokémon there, and she has to wear gloves, but she doesn’t mind.

            They’re so cute!

There are so many that she has never seen before… she vows to buy a set of Kanto’s pokemon encyclopedias before she leaves, complete with illustrations.

            That will be fun.

There are a lot of stands selling food, and the smell of hot grease and spun sugar fill her nose as she laughs. She buys a large stick of bright pink cotton candy, and walks around, looking at the games set up.

There are lots of games for pokemon and people alike. It’s a festival week then, she decides.

How fortunate! Of course, she has to go back to Houen tonight, but the whole day is hers to play with.

She accidentally bumps into a young man wearing a black t-shirt and jeans, and as he turns around, she sees the silver tattoos under his eyes. She recognizes him and hurriedly apologizes.

            “Dark Master!”

Silver nods, and helps her up. Then he smiles at her and slips something into her hand.

She sees that it is a bracelet made out of shiny dark beads. Gifs from the Elite are always treasured, and she puts it on her wrist with a grin.

            Grandfather doesn’t like the Elite.

She doesn’t know why yet. Besides, how could anyone not like the Elite? They’re brilliant and powerful and they were the ones who created Kanto and Johto and Houen and all the Islands!

There’s another girl over there, with gold eyes and she has red tattoos under them.  Is she another Elite?

She doesn’t recognize her though, but she sees the robes and that is how she tells for sure. Because no one would be stupid enough to pretend to be an Elite, right?

            Of course right!

Besides, as she watches, the girl releases a Moltres and flies off, and she grins in astonishment. Wow!

It would be so cool to be Elite…
