Chapter 3

            “Psyduck, go!”

Ash did not flinch. “Pidgeot, do you still want to take this one?”

As long as I don’t induce a headache I win, hai?

            “Hai.”

            Pidgeot smirked. In that case…

Two good Wing Attacks KO’d Psyduck before it could even start to get a headache.

“Still think I’m a lousy trainer, Misty?” Ash asked confidently.

The energy of the new moon hummed and sang in his veins.

Yes, the last three months… that was when the real changes would take place…

            Misty glared. “You cheated!”

            “I cheated? How!”

Misty growled, and struck forwards with her mallet again. Ash’s eyes widened, but the mallet didn’t hit.

Pidgeot had slashed her mallet into pieces.

You need to stay safe especially these few months, Master Ash, before full transformation is done.

            So she knew…

            He smiled. “Thanks, Pidgeot.”

Flying and moon went together hand in hand, and so did water and ice and dragon…

            It made sense.

Lance passed Mastery, so that brought her back life… and the moon power augmented and increased her dragon magic. They were compatible.

            Dragon Master.

But what would he become? He still didn’t know, and time was running out…

            Pokemon Master seemed too vague…

Leave! Now! Pidgeot yelled, before she used Whirlwind and Misty was blasted off. Pikachu gasped, and ran to attack Pidgeot, but before he could get there…

            Squirtle and Bulbasaur restrained him.

            They were moon-type too…

Master Ash, when did it happen?

Did you actually activate the dark moon spell?

Ash nodded. “I have 3 months left.”

            How cool…

Become a moon-type Master, Master Ash. That would be perfect.

            Ash, why did you?

Pikachu gaped. Ash’s eyes were turning lighter, almost gold…

            You’re a-!

“Yes.” Ash said, oddly, sounding otherworldly. < I’m a moon spirit in the making. >

Ash’s moon-based pokemon formed a protective wall around him.

            < I’m sorry, Pikachu, but… >

            Pikachu fled.

He knew now why he had liked Misty…

            They were the same.

            Sun pretending to be moon…

            Charmander sighed. I wish I could stay…

            “I’m sorry, Charmander.”

Oh, it’s not your fault. Charmander smiled, wanly. I learned a lot while I was with you, but…

Ash nodded as Charmander hugged him once. I’m going back to find my clan.

“Good luck.” Ash whispered, drawing a circle around charmander.

The moon sign would keep all moon pokemon from attacking him until he got home…

Ash fell forwards afterwards. That had drained a lot of energy, and he had never attempted it before…

Master Ash! Three worried voices yelled.

            < Shh, I’ll be fine, I just need some rest… >

The pokemon nodded, as he fell asleep.

That was fair… they watched as he slight for two days straight, letting the moonlight give him energy.

            Pidgeot looked happy.

His skin was turning paler as well, and she could see his wings forming.

            How nice!
Squirtle gave him ice water to lower his body temperature the way it should be, while Bulbasaur made him herbal tea.

By the time he awoke, his eyes were solid gold.

            His pokemon were very happy.

            You look great, Master Ash!

Yes, this is so much better! He noticed with interest that his skin was pale too, so pale…

            But it was pretty.

He wasn’t as pretty as Lance yet, but that was fine… still, he had to find a second mastery, unless he chose the moon.

Then, they would both be ok.

“I will become a Moon-type Master.” Ash said quietly.

            Yay!

The pokemon were all happy applauding his choice.

            Sure, he looked the part.

Soon, his hair would turn silver, but that was next month…

            Well, that was fine.

Ash smiled, feeling the moon energy course through him as the sunset. “Shall we go now?” He smiled.

            The pokemon cheered and followed.

They spent the night fighting wild rock and fighting type pokemon in the cave near Lavender, and during the day, they slept.
