Chapter 10: Trickle

Oh, how Ron wanted to wipe that smirk off Harry Potter’s face. He was on the Quidditch team as a first year? Ugh!
            It was unfair.

He glared at the little trio at the Slytherin table.

“Wasn’t vacation in the Seafoam islands fun?”

“Sure.” Harry said. He had gone with Ash to the tropics for two weeks during Christmas, and it had been lots of fun.

“Wish I could have gone.” Draco said. “A tan in the middle of the winter! You lucky devil, Harry! The girls will start falling for you in droves now.”

            Harry blinked.

“Aren’t we too young to think about girls?” Ash asked.

Malfoy sweatdropped. * Maybe he is, but I’m not… you have to plan these things early! *

“Speaking of which,” Malfoy lowered his voice. “I found out something important.”

            “Oh?”
“They’re hiding something in this school. Snape had one two many brandies at our house and mentioned something.”

“Cool.” Ash said. “I wonder what it is?”

“Well, whatever it is, its important… and they are hiding it in the Forbidden Corridor.”

            “Ah…”

Harry looked interested. “Maybe it’s worth a lot?”

            “Harry, do you know something?”

“Hold on… when I was in Diagon Alley, we went to another vault in Gringotts… Hagrid got a package.”

            “Was it big?”

“Oh no, about the size of a textbook.”

            “A textbook? Strange…”

“Yes.” Ash said, although his mind started ticking. * If it’s a book of cards…. And someone tries to activate them, that could lead to serious trouble… *

            “Why don’t we find out?”

            “And how, pray tell?”

“Hagrid must know something. We’ll get it out of him.”

“That is actually quite a good idea. A bribe…”

Ash beamed. “I have just the thing.”

Harry was excited by the unknown prospect, so all particulars just went out of his mind. They finished eating and after classes, paid a visit to the groundskeeper.

Hagrid was surprised when Ash asked him about magical creatures, and began a long, quite interesting, discourse, which even Malfoy paid attention to.

It was nearly dinner when he finished.

“So, you have a three-headed dog?”

“Yes. His name is Fluffy. Loves music, play some and he’ll drop off to sleep.” Hagrid yawned. “So, Harry, what was the surprise?”

Harry had caught a pokemon himself while in Seafoam with Ash. It was like a second pet.

            “Take a look.”

The button flashed red as the pokemon was released.

Hagrid’s eyes widened. Sure, Seel weren’t that rare, but…

            “It’s so cute!”

Hagrid’s excitement handily wiped out what he had told the boys.

“So now we know what’s guarding the item.” Harry said that night.

            “Safe, hopefully.”

“Sure, I mean, if not…” Ash looked at Lance, who nodded. “Amnesia Wave…”

“If anyone overhears us, they’ll immediately forget.”

“That’s impressive.” Malfoy admitted. “But… she didn’t go to magic school?”

            “No.”
            “Even more impressive then.”

The group fell asleep, wondering what the treasure was.

Life was getting better, though. School was nearing its exit. Still, they had no idea what the mystery was.

            But it could wait.

            Or… could it?

            “No.”

Harry and Malfoy both looked at Ash, who was staring straight ahead, eyes fixated on a far point in the distance.

“Please… don’t let it come any closer.” Ash suddenly snapped, a barrier of white light surrounding him. “Go away!”

            “What’s going on?”

“I have no idea!” Draco told Harry. “I thought you did!”

            “Me neither!”

Lance appeared, and stepped through Ash’s barrier. Her eyes glowed, blue rings putting him to sleep.

            Lance smiled. “Sleep now…”

            “What’s wrong with him?”

Lance turned to the two boys. “It is complicated. Sometimes, our kind has future sight…”

“So he saw a glimpse of the future?”

“Not a pleasant one. But it means you three have to figure out what the ‘treasure’ is before this year is out.”

“Oh joy… we have four months left.” Harry sighed.

“That’s long enough. Let’s get studying.”

“We have to… it seems dangerous.”
