Chapter 2: Summoning

Ash walked down the halls, his pokemon trotting by his side. Giovanni had been pleased at his ability to actually catch a wild pokemon, not in mock battles, so he had given him permission to explore the forest – provided that Lance kept him company.

            Paranoid father? Maybe.

Still, at least Giovanni didn’t fuss like Delia had before she passed away due to a virulent tuberculosis infection last year.

“Let’s go.” Lance said, taking hand as the blue glow of teleport warped them out. Ash smiled.

            Lance had power.

He liked watching her do magic.

Lance told him that she could teach him when he was a little older. He was still waiting.

Hopefully, the time would come soon.

As they got into the forest, Spiritwolfe began to howl.

“It’s calling the rest of its pack.” Lance whispered. “Get ready, because your pokemon team is about to increase.”

Soon, wolves of every color and element flowed into the area, surrounding Ash as he disappeared under a press of warm tongues and soft paws.

He went home that night followed by a train of wolves. More than one rocket freaked out at the sight, but it all turned out well.

And so, the next day, Ash started training his pokemon.

“Dragonair, summon storm.” Lance said, as Growlithe was suddenly soaked with freezing rain.

            “Growlithe!”

Ash quickly recalled his faithfully puppy. “Hmm… okay! Freezewolfe, you’re up! Ice beam!”

The tri-striped wolf in black, white, and dark blue slashes on its back, silver eyes and ears, and ice-blue rings of its fur on his legs, roared.

A freezing bolt of energy shot out of its mouth, heading for Dragonair.

“Type advantage can’t help if you cant hit her.” Lance said, as Dragonair twisted out of the way, before spitting out a Flamethrower.

Freezewolfe jumped, releasing a Thunderwave to slow down the dragon.

            All wolves were part electric.

“Refresh.” Lance said, as Dragonair cleansed off the paralysis and spat out another Flamethrower.

Freezewolfe breathed out blizzard, his eyes glowing silver.

Two cancelled, and then, Freezewolfe leapt at Dragonair with another Ice Beam. This one was combined with Zap Cannon.

So if you dodged the ice, you got hit by electricity and would be paralyzed.

            “Hyper Beam!”

Once again, the attacks cancelled, and Dragonair used one last attack. Fire Blast.

            Both pokemon fell.

            “Huh?” Red asked, confused.

“Destiny bond? Nice…” Lance said, as she healed her pokemon. “Okay Darkstar, take a rest. Tempest, go!”

The male dragonair popped out, while his sister rested.

“Ah…” Ash said. “Hm… I could use Nymphwolfe, but she’d just attack the same way… she and Freezewolfe are twins after all, so… Spiritwolfe!”

            His first.

A black-purple wolf with three blood-red stripes on each leg, a flowing white mane with gold flecks, silver stripes on its back, red eyes, and a gold mask around its eyes.

Power and deadly grace, yes… darkness too.

Without a word, both contestants leaped, Shadow Ball and Night Shade clashing with Dragon Rage.

Lance’s eyes were closed as the battle progressed, using only her inner eyes to see the result.

Soon, Spiritwolfe fell; two Hyper Beams could do that.

            Easily.

Shrugging, Ash used Marill. Unfortunately, the little ball of fluff didn’t know any ice moves, which turned out to be a problem as it was fried.

“Take a break.” Lance said. “You are stressing out too much.”

            “Gomen…”

Lance tossed him a bottle of water. “Close your eyes and relax for about fifteen minutes. That will help.”

            “Hai… I will.”

            Trainer as well, now.

Not that Ash minded, as Lance was nice. It was almost like a built-in friend. Or, an older sister slash bodyguard.

Either way, he didn’t care much.

“Ready?” Lance asked, as she checked over Darkstar and healed him.

            “Hai!”

And so, battle broke forth once again.

In his office, Giovanni congratulated himself on finding such a companion for his son.

Only the best would do, after all.

Giovanni frowned as an alarm sounded. “Get teams black Raticate and black Staryu out there!”

            “Yes sir!”

Butch and Cassidy, along with Justin and Priscilla, ran out to see what was going on.

“Looks like just a couple of wild pokemon.”

“Anything could be a trap. Raticate, go!” Cassidy shouted.

The four Pidgey scattered, taking off, but not before Justin’s sharp eyes saw the blue collars.

            “Police spies!”

“Staryu, Psychic!” Priscilla yelled, their team pokemon attacking. Three pidgeys fell. One was left.

            “Shoot!”

The last pidgey flew over the Viridian Forest. Unfortunately… it got caught in a battle between Dragonair and Electawolfe.

            Fried Pidgey?

            Oh, securely.

Lance used amnesia on the pidgey before it awoke and flew off again.
