Chapter 2

“Well, well. I didn’t expect to see you so soon dear cousin.” Lorelei looked up from her Lapras. “What news?”

“They think I’m dead, or they would…” Lance’s smile turned feral. “But I think someone saw me leave.”

            “Who?”

Lance’s voice was a purr. “Silver.”

“Silver? Ah yes. Well, won’t he tell?”

“Not if he wishes to find out his past. We had a deal, you see. And he hasn’t kept up his end of the bargain quite yet…”

            “Clever of you, dear cousin...”

            “Tell me Yellow’s weakness.”

“Red,” Lorelei said promptly. “She came to ‘save’ him, after all.”

“Did she?” A pause. “She? Well, well. Her disguise was rather masterful then.” He smiled. “Red?”

“Yes, the one we tried to recruit. Well, we’ve both seen the results of that.”

“You should have let me handle it.”

“Ah, but you’re our Leader and our hidden weapon. That would not have been wise at that point in the plan…”

“True, true. But she killed my dragons, and she will pay.”

Lorelei sucked in a breath. “She killed?”

“Yes. That Megavolt was designed to kill. A human can barely survive a Thunderbolt, and that was ten times more powerful. But they all tried to save me.”

            “That’s why you’re alive.”

            “Yes.”

“Be careful. She has the Viridian power just as you do.”

“A most unfortunate chance, but it is all right.”

“Take care then, cousin.” Lorelei said, waving goodbye as Lance soared off on Aerodactyl.

Lance gave an answering wave and headed for Viridian. A little change in appearance, slicked his hair down with water and put in blue colored contacts in his eyes, and the information was at hand.

So. Yellow’s only relation was an uncle… that was easily taken care of. Now Red might be more of a problem…

Red was a powerful trainer, he remembered from the Kanto finals. His pokemon were empathically attuned to him and vice versa. However… he did have a weakness, if it could be called that. His pokemon never took unnecessary damage.

Lance frowned, than swept his cape around himself and decided that perhaps, observation would be necessary first.

Three days later, Red received another challenge letter. Shrugging, he decided to go respond. It was located near Cerulean City, so first he went in and said hi to Misty and his Krabby.

Then, he headed to the clearing mentioned.

There was a trainer waiting for him, dressed casually in white jeans and a blue long-sleeved shirt. He wore sunglasses and had light pink hair down to his shoulders.

            “You’re Wataru?”

            “Hai. Hajimemashite. Douzo Yoroshiku.”

“My Japanese isn’t that good.” Red said apologetically, but he understood basic Japanese at least. “So, I suppose you want a three on three battle?”

            “Hai.”

            “Well then, let’s get started!”

They moved to opposite ends of the field and called fourth their pokemon. Wataru sent out a cute Horsea, while Red did his Poliwrath.

“Smokescreen.” Lance whispered, watching as a dense cloud of black fog surrounded both combatants.

Not bad, Red decided, even as Poliwrath reached the struggling Horsea and slammed it down onto the ground with a Seismic Toss. But not good enough, Red thought, until Horsea breathed out some strange blue flames.

            Poliwrath froze, paralyzed.

“Dragonbreath.” Wataru smiled at him. “Interesting, no?”

Red nodded, but Poliwrath was not one to be taken down so easily. The image faded, revealing it to be a double team, and Horsea went flying into the air upon a Dynamicpunch.

Horsea was recalled, and swapped for a Charmander. Before Poliwrath could react, a Hyper Beam – wow, had fainted it.

Red smiled and called out Gyara, his Gyarados. This wasn’t bad. This match might actually be interesting! Just like the ones with Bruno had been…

Charmander managed to evade Gyarados for several turns thanks to it’s smaller size and agility, but at last, it fell.

Lance recalled Charmander and sent out Larvitar for another Hyper Beam.

Red recalled Gyarados, surprised that the little brown pokemon his opponent was using was so strong, than shrugged.

Wataru seemed to specialize in unevolved pokemon, which was interesting. Just like Yellow was supposed to have been.

Why the hell was he thinking about Yellow? Red banished the thought and scowled.

            Stupid irritating femme-boy!

Lance caught Red’s flinch and wondered, but decided not to pry until later. Venusaur was sent out to face his ground type. Well, he had a disadvantage there, clearly, but might as well try… Earthquake.

Venusaur stood it’s ground as Earthquake washed over it, but looked visibly hurt. Poison was weak to ground after all…

Lance smirked inwardly. Larvitar continuously shot off one earthquake attack after another, quickly demolishing the grass-type, which could not keep it’s footing and continued to take damage from each strike.

Well, it was effective this move. He’d remember it for future reference.

Red gaped, than grinned. “You’re not bad, Wataru-kun.”

            “You’re not bad yourself, Red-san.”

Red colored a bit than smiled. “No need to be so formal! Just call me Red, Wataru!” He stuck out his hand.

“As you wish…” Lance shook and grinned.

            Perfect.

Emotional warfare! Well, I don’t like Yellow, so she is usually bashed in my fics. Yellow fans should stay away…

And yeah, Lance dyed his hair…
