Summary: I was always miffed at how Misty stole the Togepi egg that Ash had found from him when it hatched, even though Ash won the tournament too! Well, then I started thinking, if Togepi’s a rare pokemon, maybe…

Timeline: Right after Episode 50

Pairing: Ash x Sabrina (Mirageshipping)

Title: Umbrella

“So since *Misty* was the first thing Togepi saw, she gets to keep it?” Ash wailed. * That’s not fair! I found it and I won the tournament! *

Misty stuck out her tongue. “Oh yeah?”

            “It’s a rare pokemon!”

            “Well, it’s mine!”
Brock sighed, getting ready to stop the fight before Pikachu fried them both, but before he could, Ash beat him to it.

“You said as much. Very well.”

            “Huh?”

“People pay *fortunes* for a Togepi.” Ash said softly. “I’m sure that more than covers the cost of your pathetic bike. Farewell.”

With that, Ash turned his back on Misty and started walking away.

            “WAIT!” Misty yelled. “That’s cheap!”

“Cheap?” Ash asked. “What’s cheap is the fact that you grabbed *my* egg while it was hatching so Togepi saw your ugly face first and thought you were it’s mother so you got to keep it even though I won the tournament!”

Flames were starting to sprout from Ash’s ears. Pikachu would have thought it an interesting sight in other circumstances, but now…

            Please stop! She begged.

“No.” Ash said firmly. “If I’m losing Togepi I should at least get something out of it...” * Stupid bitch Misty… *

“Oh yeah? Like what?” Misty taunted.

“Like never seeing your ugly face again!” Ash spat.

            Misty burst into tears.

An angry grimace crossed Ash’s face. Now she was trying to make him feel guilty? He’d had enough!

“Pidgeotto, I choose you! Let’s Fly!”

The bird squawked and nodded as they took off together, leaving Misty, Brock, and Pikachu behind, quite speechless.

            Pikachu reacted first.

A thunder struck down boy and bird, and they crashed roughly twenty feet into the ground.

“Ash! You inconsiderate jerk!” Misty screamed, smashing her mallet into his skull with far more force that was necessary.

Brock was more controlled, but he did understand Ash’s point of view. After all, with Misty’s accusations…

A strangled scream forced its way out of Ash’s throat upon impact, before he spasmed twice and went still.

            Elsewhere…

A young psychic abruptly stiffened. Something… something was wrong, very wrong. But where was it? It wasn’t her Kadabra or her Haunter or her new Espeon…

            Who else…?

With a confused look, she concentrated on the origin of the signature, and then teleported to see what the problem was.

She did not expect to see Ash Ketchum near death’s door, and Misty still trying to hit him. Brock was restraining her, but…

            Dear lord…. Red and white…

She would have screamed were she a lesser person. As it were, she hurriedly gathered him in her arms, and initiated teleport once again. They landed in Saffron Memorial Hospital.

Immediately, doctors and nurses came running and he was soon taken to the emergency room.

It was only then that the adrenaline faded form her system as the full impact of what had happened sank in.

Misty Waterflower had tried to murder Ash Ketchum; Ash Ketchum, the boy who had saved her mind and soul.

This crime would not go unpunished.

A few hours latter, a haggard-looking doctor came out.

< How is he, Doctor Gamble? >

The man sighed. “He’s stable, and should wake up soon… he’s healing exceedingly fast, almost ten times as fast as a normal human should… but I don’t care about that. The problem is, he’ll probably suffer from some degree of amnesia, a combination of both physical assault and psychological damage.”

“Oh, I swear that Misty Waterflower…” Sabrina sighed, * I’ll make you pay for this one day, just you wait. Psychics don’t forget these things. *

            I will.

            He’s important to me.

Brown eyes blinked open fuzzily, but they were unfocused.

“He’s awake!” A nurse called, seeing the changes on the monitor. Sabrina and Doctor Gamble immediately went in.

“Hello, young man. How are you feeling?”

“My head hurts.” Ash said, quite obviously. “What happened?”

            “Well, what do you remember?”

He frowned as his brow furrowed in thought. “An ugly girl hit me…. But I can’t remember her name…”

“Ah, yes. That would explain it. Do you know who you are?”

“Of course! I’m Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town and I’m going to become the world’s greatest pokemon master!”

“Good.” The doctor nods. “You can leave tomorrow, then.”

“Why do I have to stay in the hospital?”

“Just to make sure everything is all right.”

            “All right…”

Doctor Gamble left, as Sabrina stepped up to the bed. < Hello, Ash. >

            “Hi!” Ash said cheerfully.

< Do you remember me? >

Ash grinned brightly. “Sabrina, right?” * Wow, she’s so pretty… * perhaps he’d never been in such close proximity with her before, but still…

He could feel his pants getting somewhat tight as he stared, before he realized what was happening. * Ack! *

Sabrina, meanwhile, could easily hear Ash’s thoughts and blushed when she realized what he was thinking of. Even if it were a purely hormonal reaction, she was still somewhat flattered.

“I… I’m sorry!” Ash quickly apologized. If she was a psychic, then she’d know what he was thinking, and it wasn’t good.

Sabrina colored further. < It’s all right. > She was about to stop when something caught her eye.

            ….. blocks?

There were… areas of Ash’s’ mind that were sealed off, but she could easily fix that. It must be causing his amnesia. Closing her eyes, she concentrated….

And Ash’s’ eyes widened as childhood memories blasted through his skull….

It was a good half hour or later before either of them spoke again.

            < You’re…! >

            Ash colored. < I know. I’m not human… there’s Sableye and Charmander DNA in me… I feel so fake… >

            < I don’t care. Besides, I’m not considered human either. >

            < Nani? >

< You’re still my friend. > Sabrina smiled, holding out her hand. < Right? >

< Right! > Ash said, relieved that someone cared for him, as he shook her hand.

Sabrina smiled and then said that she would go and buy him something. Hospital food tasted nasty anyways. Ash requested a cheeseburger and fries, and she said she’d treat him.

He was a bit embarrassed about that, but then Sabrina pointed out that a simple meal would hardly repay the favor he had done her, and that he had to agree with.

It was only after she had returned and they had eaten that he realized something.

            His pokemon were gone!

< Your pokemon are missing? >

            < Yes! I don’t know where they are! >

< Well…  I can scan for them. > Sabrina closed her eyes, focusing. After a few minutes, she paused, with an expression of distaste on her face.

            < Misty. > She spat.

Ash cursed. * That little thief! How dare she steal my pokemon. Why, she’s no better than Team Rocket, and indeed, in many ways worse! That… * < Can you get them back for me? >

< I could, but wouldn’t you want to do it yourself? >

That was a good point there…. He nodded. < I’ll wait then. > He was going to make her pay….

How dare she! That little bitch! How dare she hurt her savior like this… oh yes, she would make Misty pay, hurt her and stab her and turn her into a doll and pull her arms and legs out until she screamed…

Your pain… will atone for his!

            I promise…
