Pairing: Championshipping (Ash x Lance), Bruno likes Lance but really just rapes and abuses her. Love indeed!

Chapter 2

“I get the feeling that you don’t like me very much, Lance…”

            The trainer didn’t reply.

“You know, we’re both in the system… you may be a better trainer than me, but not by much, and it would be nicer if you wouldn’t be so cold to me…”

            She didn’t move.

            “I love you.”

            There was no response.

Bruno gave an impatient snort and left the room.

Underneath light silken blankets, silver chains wound around the Champion’s wrists, locked to the bedposts. Bruises bloomed purple and red, and if one looked carefully, they could see… other things.

            But it didn’t matter.

Glassy blue eyes stared up into the ceiling, seeing nothing…

“Have a good day. Your pokemon are fully healed.” Ahs chanted. He watched as another trainer walked up. There was already a line and it was only ten A.M. lovely!

“Hello, Ash. Mind if I cut in?”

“Hi Lorelei!” He smiled at the ice trainer. “Who got hurt this time?”

“Dewgong got caught in an Explosion attack – the trainer’s Golem went out of bonds and would have hurt me instead…”

            “Oh no!”

“She didn’t have time to use Rest and heal up… could you give her Level six?”

“Are you sure?” Level six was the highest healing level…

            “Sure.”

Ash nodded, put Dewgong in the healing machine, watched as the red light beeped a few seconds later. “All done.”

            “Thank you.”

            Lorelei went back inside…

            “Say, Lorelei!”

            “Yes, Ash?”
“I just wondered – has anyone made it past Agatha? I haven’t ever seen Lance out here…”

Lorelei smiled. “No. Lance is probably off working with the G-men as usual.”

            “All right…”

After a day’s work at the Center, Ash went home. He fell headfirst into another dream.

He sighed. It was dark again. And he was floating. And the girl was standing across from him, beckoning?

Well, she was waving at him…

“Um… hi?” Ash asked. Maybe she was a ghost or something! But why would anyone want to haunt him?

            It didn’t make any sense…

With an almost exasperated motion – well thank goodness he could see that – oh right, he could see her because she glowed, a kind of silvery light like her armor, out came the pad and quill again.

            Ash looked.

It was the first time he could actually remember what was written on the notes in that dark ink. Help me…

“Help you?” Ash frowned. “Oh! Are you sick? I’m a Healer…”

The girl had nodded, but than she had shaken her head.

“Wait. That didn’t make any sense…”

The girl beckoned and then vanished. Ash tried to run after her, but something was in the way. A door. There was a door in the darkness.

It was a slightly familiar looking door…

Two doors tightly barred shut. Where had he seen them before?

Ash woke up. He quickly wrote down what he remembered. So some girl wanted him to help her and there was a locked door in the way. And she was sick.

            Okay.

Maybe it was a side effect of his anxiety? He was taking the test to become a fully qualified Nurse soon…

            That was probably it…

But still, a recurring dream was important. He frowned.

Work went on as usual. He didn’t find out anything new, either in dreams, or in life, for another three days. That was when Lorelei called him into her room frantically.

He rushed in as Nurse Joy was busy with the other trainers, but he’d just finished healing a girl’s pokemon and was free – and found her crying and trying to bandage up her Jynx.

“How did this happen?” He asked, as he and Lorelei carried Jynx out to a room for surgery.

Lorelei shook her head. “A Scyther. It Swords Danced up long enough – I don’t know how – to pierce Jynx’s armor…. And now she’s lost her… I’m afraid she’ll miscarry!”

            “She was pregnant?”

“Only a little. It was still too early to be dangerous, or so I thought, but…”

Ash nodded and decided to lecture later. For now, they had to save the baby!

They labored over Jynx for long hours, and finally, a baby Smoochum was born, but Jynx herself was in bad condition.

They buried the ice pokemon the next day.

            “I’m sorry.”

“It’s not your fault, Lorelei! I should have tired harder!”

“Ash, even our special medicine isn’t miracle-proof and you certainly couldn’t have crammed Jynx into the Healing Machine!”

Ash sighed. “I just feel so depressed. I thought that if I became a Nurse, I could save lives, but maybe that was just wishful thinking…”

His Chansey patted him on the shoulder. All interns received a Chansey, but if they didn’t finish training, it was confiscated…

A nurse’s internship lasted three years… he’d done two years so far, but mainly he just healed pokemon in the machine and smiled at trainers… he wasn’t good at surgery or birth yet, but he’d been forced to learn the extra information disks for both since Indigo Plateau was a busy place.

Perhaps he could get his certificate sooner. After all, exceptional nurses – or fast learners – could complete the program in less than three years, as long as they passed the Qualifying Exam…

            And he felt pretty prepared…

It wasn’t until he dreamed again that his mind finally clicked.

Lorelei had barred doors in her room. They were silvery-blue, like ice, and led to Bruno’s room. They weren’t exactly like the ones in his dream, but similar.

            Perhaps…

The next morning, he went to the League early and went to see Bruno.
