Chapter 11

They both woke perhaps two days later. However, all injuries were cured, much to Agatha and the rest of the Star’s relief.

Misty began bothering Ash once he was out of sleep.

Ash did not appreciate it. Hadn’t he and the Seven saved her lives? Well, there were only Six now, Bob being dead.

            Why was she so ungrateful?

And if life here was beneath her, why didn’t’ that brat go home where she should belong?

            She really was spoiled…

            What could he do though?

He just tried to ignore her, and learned to tune her out.

However, Misty wasn’t about to give up so easily.

First, she tried to seduce Ash – although he didn’t’ realize what she was doing – and let Delia catch them in a compromising position. Then, when her father came to pick her up, she wove a lie.

She said Bob had raped her and the others had done nothing and she had been almost killed by wandering assassins.

Of course, not a word was true, except for the part with Jessie and James, but Minister Grant was strict, and ordered them all to be put to death. How dare those peasants harm his daughter!

            Misty smirked.

Now it was time to prove her power!

“I’ll forgive them if you promise to marry me, Ash.” She taunted.

Ash stared at his teachers. They had fought well, but Grant had brought two hundred soldiers with him. Most were dead, but still…

Had he known ahead of time? If so, how?

I… I can’t just let them die! After what they’ve done for me, this isn’t how I will repay them!

            But I hate her!
            I can’t marry her…

            < Ash. >

Ash looked startled as Agatha spoke inside his mind. < Do not betray your own values. We do not die that easily. >

The rest of them could not use telepathy, but…

“I’d rather die than marry you pretentious bitch!” Ash screamed, before he lashed out. Golden beams of light shot from his hands, instantly killing the general. Misty ran, but tripped, and while the soldiers tried to attack, golden threads of light tore them apart. And this was the power of the killing eyes…

In seconds, the Seven were free. Well, there were only six, but they still kept the name of Johto’s seven stars.

Ash felt the anger slowly ebbing away as the light faded. He slumped to his knees, tired. Even if the ability was natural, it consumed lots of energy…

He wasn’t used to it yet.

“He’s only eleven, but he’s activated the golden eyes.” Bruno said in awe.

Surge slapped Ash on the back. “We won’t lose to Blaine!”

Misty and one soldier escaped, the rest had fallen to the hail of golden fire. Pity the one who pushes too hard…

            Love cannot be forced.

It was a lesson well worth learning…

            Lance smiled at Ash fondly. * He’s such a good child… *

He had been startled when Ash had kissed him, but… maybe… it was nothing, at least not now.

Would the boy want him? Well, he could wait until Ash grew up. They weren’t that far apart in years…

            “Teachers! Are you all right?”

“We’re fine, Ash.” The fourth star said. “Are you injured?”

            ‘No, just a bruise…”

“That’s good.” Agatha intoned. “You’re a good student.”

            “Thank you!”

After the exhausting ordeal, Ash rested, and then his lessons continued…and time passed, as he grew better in skills…

But he had to make a promise, not to use Killing eyes again.

            It was too dangerous.

He understood, so he did not pry…

The fifteen-year old stared at the stars.

“What are you doing out here by yourself, Ash? It’s time you were in bed.” Aya chided.

“I’m sorry, Teacher Aya. I like the stars.”

“Oh, are you thinking about something important?”

            “How did you know?”

“Koga told me to stargaze whenever I had problems…”

            Ash sighed.

            “What is it then?”

            “I think… I have feelings for Lance.”

            Aya frowned. “Are you certain?”

            “No…”

“Is it stronger than what you feel for the rest of your teachers?”

            “I’m not sure, Teacher Aya.”

He stared back up at the stars, as if they held the answer.

During these years, he had gotten to love and respect all his mentors, lucky that Bob was dead, but…

What he felt for Lance was different…

Not that he hadn’t been sad when the others were injured, however, he felt strongly that if Lance died, he might as well.

            Was that romantic love then?

He had learned to wield the Golden eyes, and his powers had increased exponentially starting from four years ago.

He didn’t mind killing Cerulean soldiers or even the king. Just not with his eyes, and weapons were no problem… After all, King Fernando was the one who had ordered the murder of his family.

So there was no guilt there…

On the other hand, fighting for the sake of his teacher’s honor was a bit different. Still, he would do it. For them, he would.

Ash lapsed into silence. Aya did not pry farther. There was nothing more that could really be said…

Will he like me? Does he? I hope so…
