Chapter 4

A few hours later, they saw a short haired version of Lugia's form speaking with a man that had green hair with gold streaks in it.

< You think that's their version of Lugia? > Lance asked. She had changed into a dark blue kimono patterned with Dragonair and was wearing a feathered mask. Red has opted for a dark red kimono and a mask shaped like a Charmander.

< Maybe! >

They heard giggles and chuckles from the passerby.

Lance bought two sticks of takoyaki from a street vendor and handed one to Red, wondering where the laughter was coming from.

"Ne?" There was a gasp. "Look Wataru! Our fathers are here!"

Wataru smiled. "That's good, Ash. Let's go greet them." They walked towards the two men.

Ash couldn't help it. When they got to Rayquaza and Lugia, Ash glomped Lugia. "Father!"

"Hello, Child." Lugia said, hugging Ash. "Have you been good?"

"Father." Wataru told Rayquaza politely. "It's good to see you again."

"Yes it is good to see you as well Wataru. You can give your old man a hug you know..." Rayquaza greeted him in return.

Ash nodded to his father. "Yeah, I have."

Wataru chuckled and hugged Rayquaza.

"This is so strange." Red whispered to Lance, nibbling on his last octopus ball.

Lance nodded.

"Anyways, Father... something kind of came up." Wataru said, lowering his voice. "Have you ever heard of a pokemon called Destiny?"

Rayquaza looked at Lugia. "No, I can't say I have, Wataru. Why?"

"Because yesterday, we ran into a boy who was claiming that he was a legendary pokemon..."

Ash looked up at his father. "We met a pokemon called Destiny on the way to the Annual Festival..."

"That's very strange." Lugia said.

Ash saw Red. "He's over there." Ash pointed. “Wataru, Father, Rayquaza-sama... Destiny is over there..."

Rayquaza stared. It looked like a boy to him...

"... Is he pointing at you?" Lance asked Red.

Red nodded. "Yes, Lugia-san."

Lugia jumped. "How did you know who I am?"

Red just nodded. <Yes he is Lance-chan… Maybe we'll get an answer now? >

Red turned to his companion. < Let's go! > He began to pull Lance towards Lugia and Rayquaza.

< I guess so. > Lance said, walking towards Lugia.

Red began to talk in telepathy to the group. < The Lugia that Lance-chan and I know only has longer hair. >

< That's impossible. > Lugia said stiffly, as he glanced at Lance. < I never had a... daughter? >

Red giggled.

< You seem like a dragon. > Rayquaza walked towards Lance. < But... >

Red and Lance watched Rayquaza. < But what? > Lance asked.

< But you're shining both Lugia's power and mine. That's impossible. We most certainly were never... > Rayquaza coughed.

Wataru blinked. How could he have missed something like that?

< Weird. > Ash muttered.

< Hush, Ash. > Lugia chided, pulling him back.

Lance smirked. < Shall we go somewhere more secluded so I can show you? >

Ash pulled away from his Father, or tried to. However, Lugia kept an arm around his son as they walked away from the festival to a small clearing.

< Now then, > Rayquaza said briskly, < What is this all about? >

Red looked at Lance. < Do you want to go first? Or should I? >

< Go for it. > Lance grinned.

Red nodded. The only thing they heard was: "Reveal to me my Destiny." There was a flash of light.

Lance smirked as Red transformed. < Pretty. >

Red folded his wings neatly and grinned.

< Not as pretty as you are! >

< Oh, I suppose I will. > Lance spoke. She concentrated, settling for half-transformation, silversteel armor winding up her body and forming her sharp-edged wings, her robes a pale, icy blue. She gripped her staff in one hand as she posed.

"... Is that…Wait a second... he was a guy yesterday, wasn't he?" Ash asked.

Red clapped. < Yes, she was… > To Lance, he grinned. < Very pretty, love. Very pretty…>

< I am Destiny. > The Thunder Guardian smiled.

Ash was still trying to get out of his father's grip.

< But that's not right. Your aura just changed again. > Lugia said. < It's like Articuno's now... >

Ash blinked in confusion.

< And you kind of remind me of Zapdos. > Rayquaza glanced at Red.

Red giggled. < That's because Lance-chan is the Guardian of Ice too. > Red turned to Lance. < Better become Dragon Master too, or were you that before? >

< Dragon's powers are a lot weaker when I'm a girl, Red. I channel darkness and ice a lot better though. > Lance said dryly. < Dragon Master was earlier... though I kept the wings. >

Wataru just stared at Lance. < You can change gender? >

Red grinned. < We have a lot of... fun... in the bedroom because of this. >

Ash finally got his arm free of Lugia.

Lance concentrated, and his appearance changed again. This time, his hair turned pure white and fell to his waist and his eyes changed into dark blue, just like Lugia's.

Ash went over to Wataru.

< This is what our Lugia looks like. > Red explained. < Ne, Lance-chan? >

< Hai... > Lance grinned.

< Now you look like me! > Lugia gasped.

Red began to giggle.

Lugia hadn't notice his son had gotten free of his grip.

< That is so weird. > Ash breathed. < Are you like a Ditto or something? >

< That is strange. > Wataru said. < To be able to change elements... >

< Of course. > Lance explained. < It must be done to protect Thunder's Child. >

Red beamed and clung onto Lance. < Speaking of which, Ash, is there a prophecy about you too? >

Ash nodded.

< Would you mind telling us? It might be important to why we are here. > Lance asked.

Rayquaza stiffened, before he glanced at Wataru.

Wataru looked concerned.

< They don't seem like a threat, Wataru. > His Father remarked.

< I don't think they are. > Ash said hopefully. He turned to Red. < Do the colors of your feathers mean anything? >

Red grinned. < Yep! Black stands for... well, actually, my black feathers start out as white, but when all hope of coexistence between humans and pokemon is lost because of what the humans have done, they turn gray and then black... and the gold stands for the hope of the pokemon who still believe. >

< Our world is not a pleasant place. > Lance shook his head. Cerise was still too near.

Ash looked like he agreed.

Wataru frowned. < Then all this power you have, is it to protect pokemon in your world because it's so dangerous? >

Red nodded, <There are times that I can't do it, sadly... The good thing is it's only happened once. >

Ash blinked. < You look sad, Red. What happened? >

< I fell in love with the demon... Missingno. Missingno is very dangerous... and… because of my inaction, > Red grimaced, < I failed the pokemon, I failed Charlotte and most of all... I hurt and failed Lance-chan, because one, I fell in love with the demon and two I failed to do my duty by letting my emotions get involved... The world was plunged into darkness and it was my fault! >

Wataru winced. < Your world sounds a lot worse than ours... >

< It must be hard to be so important. > Ash said kindly

< It is, but there are perks, so it's not that bad. >

Rayquaza nodded. < I suppose you're trying to get back to your world then? >

< I have been a girl in several lifetimes too. But Lance more so then me, > Red looked up. < Yeah we are. We... were in the middle of something when we landed here. >

Red blushed.

< Or Serebii's pranking us again. > Lance sighed.

Lugia walked over with a smile. < As long as you do not intend to harm our children, we will welcome you here. >

< Sometimes I hate her. > Red murmured. He looked grateful when he heard Lugia’s offer, he

Ash looked puzzled. < Who's Charlotte? You've mentioned her a few times already. >

< Thanks, Lugia-san. > Lance said, working very hard not to call the look-alike Father by accident.

< Charlotte's kind of my sister. > Red said.

< Oh. >

Red grinned. < In our world Lugia-san, you are Lance-chan's Father. >

< Really! > Lugia said. < Well, that explains why he, er, looks like me. >

Just then, Ash looked like he remembered something. < You wanted to know the Prophecy right? >

< Yes. > Lance nodded.

<Ok...> Ash closed his eyes trying to remember. Ah.

< Two, there are always two,

One is a Master, the other a Child.

The Child grows stronger when he is with his own kind,

The Master guides them and protects the child,

The Child always looks to the Master

The Master always guides the Child.

The Master grows more powerful the nearer the Child.

The Child forgets,

The Master remembers.

The Child always has one dragon

The Master’s team is all dragons.

They are the Dragon’s Chosen Ones. > He sighed as he finished reciting the prophecy.

< Fascinating. > Lance said, his eyes flickering. < That would mean you're the Dragon's Child.... >

< And one remembers and the other forgets. Sounds familiar. > Red sighed.

The brown-eyed boy nodded. < Why does part of it seem familiar to you? >

< Because that's what happens to me. > Red's smile was wan. < I forget all my memories between lifetimes, and I don't remember them unless one of the other guardians is dead or in dire straits. > He looked at Lance when he said this. < Which means I tend to make the same mistakes over and over... >

Wataru winced. < That doesn't sound fun at all...>

< It's not, really. > Lance said, putting his arms around Red.

< Looks like we're in the same boat then. > Ash mused, looking at Red.

< Yes. > Red grinned. < So... now that we kind of have that out of the way, can we enjoy the festival? > He asked hopefully.

Ash grinned. < Yeah! Let's go! > He attached himself to Wataru's side and dragged him back to the Festival.

Lugia and Rayquaza exchanged amused looks and then headed off to mingle.

It seemed that things were resolved.
