Lance is Catelyn but Catelyn doesn’t have Lance’s memories.

Chapter 2

“Oh my! Red is so hot!” A girl squealed.
            “Who?” Catelyn asked.

“You don’t know? Oh, you poor deprived soul! Here!” The purple-hair shoved a glossy 4 x 6 photo into Catelyn’s hands.

A fringe of spiky black hair beneath a red-and-white cap, reddish brown eyes, a tanned complexion and a nice smile…

            He was rather attractive.

“Isn’t he cute?” The girl gushed.

            “Who is he?”

Nicole blinked. “… Where have you been living for the past three years? Red’s the Champion of the Kanto League!”

            “Oh…”

“Are you from Johto, maybe, or Houen?”

“Johto.” Catelyn said. She remembered that much at least… as her earlier memories were untouched. “I’m from Blackthorn City in Johto.”

“Cool.” Nicole shrugged. “So, you’re a trainer too. Want to battle?”

            “Sure…”

They found an empty spot on the sidewalk a few stores down. Catelyn carefully put her backpack down, and left her Charmander to guard it.

Besides Charmander, she also had Horsea, Larvitar, and Ampharos…

Nicole grinned. * She looks like a beginning trainer. This will be easy… * Indeed, Catelyn looked no more than twelve or thirteen, dressed in blue jeans and a red tank top depicting a Charmander.

            “Three on three sound good?”

            “Sounds fine to me.”

“Great. Since I challenged you, I’ll pick first! Spearow, go!” Nicole tossed back her purple hair with a grin.

            “Amphy, I choose you!”

The Ampharos let off a keening cry, along with a Thunder Wave as he was summoned. Poor Spearow…

Nicole’s smile slipped slightly. * Think I underestimated her… electric-type? This must be her strongest pokemon. All right then… *

            “Gligar, I choose you!”

Gligar. Several of them lived near her home. Catelyn smiled. “Ground/flying type… knows Poison Sting, Sand-Attack, Quick Attack, and Harden among other moves… so I won’t fear any ground moves yet. Amphy, Double Team!”

Ampharos nodded, illusionary copies surrounding the Gligar. Gligar shrugged and blew Sand-Attack towards all of them.

            Accuracy down… “Amphy, Swagger!”

Ampharos puffed up his chest, blowing out a stream of confusion marks towards the Gligar.

Gligar is confused! Gligar’s Attack sharply rose!

Nicole tossed her pokemon a Bitter Berry. “Quick Attack!”

Gligar blasted through a copy, and then Catelyn nodded. The real Ampharos took this opportunity to Body Slam Gligar onto the ground…

Poison-tipped tail pierced Ampharos’s body, causing poison… but a second Body Slam took Gligar down for the count.

Catelyn waited for Nicole’s next pokemon as she sprayed Ampharos with Antidote.

“You’re not bad, you know.” Nicole said. “But…Ivysaur, I choose you!”

            Grass… “Amphy, return!”

            Nicole smiled. “Using your Charmander?”

            “No. Horsea, I choose you.”

“What? But I have the type advantage! Ivysaur, Razor Leaf!”

“Smokescreen!” Smoke billowed out around the small marine seahorse, shielding it form view. Dozens of sharp leaves thudded into the sidewalk, but with the obscuring fog, Nicole wasn’t sure if any of them had hit.

“Fine, lower its evasion with Sweet Scent!”

“That won’t matter much!” Horsea leapt out of the cloud, and before Ivysaur could react, had sprayed two shots of ink straight into its eyes. Ivysaur roared in surprise, letting off another hail of leaves.

Horsea took one in the stomach and fell to the ground, but wasn’t down yet. It began to rain….

“Rain Dance? This way I won’t be able to use Solarbeam, but since Horsea’s so close, Ivysaur, Giga Drain!”

            Poor Horsea…

Catelyn recalled her pokemon silently. * Looks like I was being overconfident… * “Larvitar, I choose you! Rock Slide!”

Ivysaur’s HP took a massive hit, but it charged forwards with a Vine Whip…

Larvitar immediately began jumping up and down, causing an Earthquake… and thanks to poison’s weakness to ground; Ivysaur was out!

Nicole shrugged. “Well, you’re pretty good. Nice meeting you, Catelyn… by the way, did you want to join the fan club?”

            A pause.

            “… The fan club?”

“The Red fan club, of course! For only twenty-five dollars, you’ll get the official member’s pin, notebook, and biography!”

Well, Red was pretty cute, but Catelyn wasn’t sure about this! On the other hand, it was only $25…

            “I’ll take it!”

“Excellent!” Within moments, Catelyn was a proud member of the Champion Red fan club.

She shrugged and flipped open the biography page.

Let’s see, he was turning fifteen years old this year, so he’d be a bit older… he was pretty short though, his pokemon team was set there, along with prospective… here Catelyn choked.

            Dating tips?

As if she’d ever date him!

Still, the pin did have a cute picture of him smiling, so she pinned it onto her shirt and continued reading.
