The Kanto Journey – Part 1

Tomorrow is Nathan and Damien’s 10th birthday. What does that mean, you may 
ask? Tomorrow they will be getting a Pokemon from Professor Oak! They are both 
very excited and are getting ready for the big day.

Nathan: I can’t believe it! Tomorrow I’m going to get my first Pokemon! I wonder 
what I should pick!
Nathan’s mother: Nathan dear! Time for bed!
Nathan: Do I have to? I’m just way too excited about tomorrow! It’s my 10th 
birthday!
Nathan’s mother: If you go to sleep earlier, tomorrow will come faster.
Nathan: You’re right. Goodnight.
Nathan’s mother: Goodnight!

Meanwhile, at Damien’s house...

Damien and his father are watching TV. A Pokemon battle is ongoing. 

Damien’s father: C’mon! C’mon! Horn Drill!
Damien: That Charizard took that hit so well!
Damien’s mother: Alright, Damien. Bedtime!
Damien: Couldn’t I just finish watching this?
Damien’s mother: No, because you need to be up bright and early for tomorrow! 
It’s your birthday!
Damien: That’s right! Of course! How could I forget? Goodnight everyone!
Damien’s family: Goodnight.

As night fades on Damien and Nathan’s house they are sleeping. Waiting for 
tomorrow. The day where they get a Pokemon.

The night is finally over. The sun is brightly shining, waiting for the two boys to get 
their starter. But there is someone blocking the entrance to Professor Oak’s lab...

Nathan: Hey, who’s that up ahead?
Damien: Oh no!
Nathan: It’s Andrew!
Andrew: Oh no, it’s you two. Whatever could you want?
Damien: A starter Pokemon! We’re going to become the champions of Kanto!
Andrew: That’s never going to happen. Because I’M going to be the champion!
Professor Oak: Boys, boys. Calm down!
All Three: Professor Oak!
Professor Oak: Come in, and let’s get down to business.

The four walk in to the door with three Poke Balls on the table waiting for them. One 
has a flame imprinted on it, one has a leaf and the other a bubble.

Professor Oak: Now boys, the three Pokemon in these Poke Balls are Squirtle, the 
water type. Charmander, the fire type. And Bulbasaur, the grass type. Damien, you 
can pick first.
Damien: Oh great! I pick this one!

Damin picks up the ball containing Charmander and throws it on the ground.

Charmander: Chaaar! Charmander! Chaar!
Damien: All right!
Professor Oak: Nathan, you can pick next.
Nathan: Thanks Professor! I’ll go with this one!

Nathan picks up the ball containing Bulbasaur and throws it on the ground.

Bulbasaur: Bulbasaur! Bulba!
Nathan: Cool!
Professor Oak: Andrew, you next.
Andrew: I wanted Squirtle from the start anyway. But I’m not showing you two. I’m 
going home to say goodbye to my family.

Andrew walks out of the lab and the two boys chuckle.


Nathan: Cool Pokemon Damien!
Damien: You too. Hey, I have a sister in the next town over, Viridian City! We should 
go visit her, maybe she’ll travel with us!
Nathan: That sounds so cool! Let’s go straight away!

And so, Nathan, Damien and Andrew both have a Pokemon each. Let’s see where 
their adventure takes them!
