Chapter 1-First Two in a Team A young girl approaching the age of eleven was sitting on her bed with her pajamas on, thinking quietly to herself. She was finally going to get a Pokemon!! Miraw, the girl, looked at her blue ceiling and smiled. She looked at her digital alarm clock and saw that it was five. Even though she knew she was way too early, she got up, dressed, and ran outside to the Pokemon lab wearing a light blue shirt and dark blue pants. Miraw glanced at the starry sky above her when she got to the Pokemon lab. She decided that it was more polite to knock on the door, and then accidentally forgot to knock on the door when she came in. She looked around at all of the complicated machines. One looked like it contained something old and dirty, while a few others looked like pocket healers. What really caught her attention was a mirror. There was a under construction sign near it, but Miraw decided to have a look at it anyways. After walking towards the mirror, she stared hard at it. There was nothing special going on for a little while. Then she saw something surprising. Her reflection had disappeared and been replaced by a Dragonair’s. “Ahhhhhhhh!!!” Miraw screamed. She closed her eyes, hoping it would go away. When she opened them again, she saw her own reflection in the mirror and heard a voice saying, “Nair.” Miraw knew it meant later, because she had learned Pokemonish in school. Professor Sequoia walked into his lab. “Who’s there?” he asked, wondering who had screamed. “It’s me, Miraw,” Miraw answered. “You’re really early, you know. I didn’t think you wanted a Pokemon this quickly!!” he laughed. “But, of course, you can get one now. Would you like Spheal, Oddish, or Vulpix?” “I would like Vulpix,” Miraw replied. “Vulpix, eh? Good decision.” Professor Sequoia grabbed a Pokeball and threw it at Miraw. She caught it with one hand. “Thanks,” Miraw said when she ran out the door with her new Vulpix in her hands. *** “Come on out, Vulpix!!” shouted Miraw when she got to the edge of the tall grass near her home. “Vulpi!” it cried. This cry had no true meaning. “Hello there Vulpix. I’m Miraw,” Miraw introduced herself. “I-I’m a female Vulpix.” Vulpix shivered. It seemed to be shy. “Don’t be shy, Vulpix. Let’s see what you know.” Miraw pointed her Pokedex at Vulpix. *Vulpix, the fox Pokemon. This fiery creature is born with one tail and grows up to have six. It is most commonly found on mountains, such as Mount Prye in Hoenn. At level 5, Vulpix should know Tail Whip and Ember and has the ability to know Faint Attack, Hypnosis, Flail, Disable, Howl, Psych Up, and Heat Wave. This one knows Ember, Tail Whip, and Heat Wave.* “So you have an Egg Move…” Miraw said to her Vulpix, “with a base damage of 100! That’s high!” “Yeah, I know,” Vulpix commented. It seemed less shy now. “But if you really want me to learn another move, you should train me.” “Of course. Let’s start!!!” Vulpix jumped high and landed in the grass. It waved its three tails (it was still pretty young) and led the way. *** Dragonair was slithering through the bushes at the edge of the route. It was following Miraw and watching her. She saw Vulpix running ahead and Miraw struggling to keep up after a while. “Vulpix, slow down…” Miraw panted. “I’ve just spotted a Skitty!!” Vulpix yelled. “Yeah, that’s great and all that, but… A Skitty!!!!!? But those are only supposed to be on Route 116!” “Must have been released.” “Let me catch this one. Skitty!!” The Skitty turned and looked at Miraw. It looked a bit angry. “Vulpix, Ember!” “Vulpi!!!” Vulpix cried. She spat out some hot fire from her mouth. It connected with the Skitty and did a good bit of damage. “Good thing it wasn’t Heat Wave,” Miraw said. Skitty countered with a Tackle. Vulpix, having poor defense stats, took the same amount of damage as Skitty. Vulpix turned around, spread her tails, and waved them. Miraw recognized this as a Tail Whip. “Get that Skitty, Vulpix!” Skitty then did something that told Miraw that it was surely released. It ran up to Vulpix and tickled it with its tail. A Tickle attack, thought Miraw. Vulpix fell over laughing. “That tickles!” she laughed. “Vulpix, pay attention and use Ember!” Miraw shouted. Vulpix stopped giggling and hit Skitty with her fire. It was now weak enough to catch. Miraw threw a red-and-white Pokeball. “You’re mine, Skitty!” The ball connected with the wild Skitty, making it disappear in a flash of red light. The ball shook once, twice, three times and Skitty was captured. “We caught a Skitty Vulpix! We caught a Skitty!” Miraw cheered. She took out the pocket healer Professor Sequoia had given to her with the words *Only use this on newly caught wild Pokemon*. She placed Skitty’s Pokeball in the first hole and pressed the green button like she had been told to. The ball glowed green as the small screen on the pocket healer was filled with green. When it was full, it flashed “Okay” and the Pokeball stopped glowing. Miraw took it out and threw it. “Skitt!” Skitty cried when it got out. Miraw pointed the Pokedex at it. *Skitty, the kitten Pokemon Skitty is a popular pet Pokemon. Ones that are the opposite gender of the owner get a better treatment than those who are the same. However, it is not known if people just like them better, or if it is caused by too much petting, which would put Cute Charm in effect. They are only found on route 116. At level 7…* “Wow, its trainer hated it.” * …Skitty should know Growl, Tackle, Tail Whip, and Attract and has the ability to know Helping Hand, Psych Up, Uproar, Fake Tears, Baton Pass, Substitute, and Tickle. This one knows Growl, Tackle, Tail Whip, Attract, and Tickle.* “Four stat-changing moves? And they only learn four damaging ones… I guess I’ll have to teach you a few TM’s,” Miraw said. “Yeah, I know,” Skitty replied. “My old trainer hated me. He kicked me when releasing me.” “That must have hurt,” commented Vulpix. “It did.”
