Chapter 2-I Avaiy Life Miraw sat down in the short grass. Vulpix sat down with her and whistled quietly. Skitty chased its pink tail around while the others continued to sit. “Vulpix?” Miraw asked. “Yeah?” Vulpix replied while watching Skitty’s game of chase with her tail. “Do you think I should train both of you here then continue on to the next town or should I head there first?” “I’d prefer training here first. After all, I am only on level five.” “That’s what I thought,” Miraw said. “Oh well, let’s start training.” Miraw only got time to stand up before another trainer that looked around the age of thirteen found her. “Training?” she asked. The other trainer had dark brown hair with dark blue eyes. She wore an orange short-sleeved shirt and black pants made for exercise. She had small, midnight blue diamond earrings. The trainer was wearing a black glove on her right hand. “Would you like to battle me?” the girl asked. “Oh, and my name’s Avaiy.” “Mine’s Miraw and I’d love to battle you!” “All right then.” Avaiy took a Pokeball of her belt and enlarged it. “Go! Poochyena!” She threw the ball on the ground and a Poochyena came out in a flash of light. It growled softly at Miraw as she pointed her Pokedex at it. *Poochyena, the puppy Pokemon Poochyenas will eat anything edible if they are hungry. It digs holes to store food that it has not yet eaten. Poochyenas are usually found on the first few routes of a trainer’s journey.* “Vulpix! Get out there and fight!” Miraw shouted. Vulpix jumped in front of her trainer. “Use Ember!” “Vulx!” Vulpix opened her mouth and let a few burning embers come out. The embers burned Poochyena’s fur, leaving it blacker than before. “Try a Bite!” Avaiy shouted, startling Miraw. “B-but, Poochyena don’t learn Bite until level thirteen! Yours can’t be any higher than six!” “Correct, but, if two Pokemon are bred that both know the same move, and their offspring can learn that move by leveling up, there is a very good chance that it will be born with that move. In other words, My Poochyena knows Bite, Tackle, Howl, and Poison Fang.” “Another egg move…” Miraw sighed. “Poochyena, Bite!” Poochyena leapt forward and bit Vulpix’s leg. Vulpix cried in pain as the attack took effect. After a few seconds, Poochyena let go. “Heat Wave!!” Miraw cried. Vulpix’s eyes glowed a red color as she built up heat inside her. She breathed out a wave of intensely hot air. The blast of air collided with Poochyena and knocked it out just like that. “Return,” Avaiy sighed. She placed the red and white ball back on her belt and pulled off another ball. This one was purple and had red hearts covering it. Miraw recognized it as a Friendship Ball, which worked better on Pokemon who had different genders than yours. Her next Pokemon must be a male. “Go, Growlithe!” Avaiy flung the Friendship Ball out of her right hand. It landed on the ground with enough force to break an ostrich egg and opened up. A flash of red light formed a male Growlithe. Miraw pointed her Pokedex at it. *Growlithe, the puppy Pokemon Growlithes are very loyal to their original trainers. They will bite, bark, or roar at anyone who dares attack their trainers. In some cases they have burned the attackers. They are commonly found in four or more routes in each continent and more rarely in areas where Vulpixes are found.* “Growlithe, use your Bite technique!” Avaiy yelled. Growlithe bounded forward and bit the leg that Poochyena had bitten earlier. Vulpix cried in pain but stood firm. She wasn’t about to give up. But Miraw was about to give up using Vulpix. She knew no moves that Growlithe was not resistant to. But then she remembered: Heat Wave! The attack had a base damage of one hundred and was even more powerful than Flamethrower. On Growlithe, it had a base damage of fifty and with STAB, well, it’d still be strong. “Heat Wave!” Miraw shouted to her Vulpix. She nodded and rose her internal body temperature again. She let out another blast of hot air, this time hotter than the last one. By pure luck, it scored a critical hit. Even though Growlithe was not even hit by the tinniest spark of fire, he was scorched. His normally orange fur became a dusty brown. His eyes were duller and the stripes blacker. Avaiy realized that Growlithe would not do very well against this fox. She decided it was time for Miraw to switch Pokemon. In other words, she had already planned her next move. “Growlithe, scare that Vulpix away with Roar!” Avaiy yelled. Growlithe took in a deep breath, and then exhaled a terrifying roar. Vulpix was automatically returned to her Pokeball and Skitty came out of hers. “Why did you send me out?” Skitty asked her trainer. “I didn’t choose to send you out. Avaiy’s Growlithe used Roar,” explained Miraw. “Now use Attract!” Skitty nodded and slowly walked up to Growlithe. She rubbed the dog softly with her tail. He started to drool. “Growllllll,” Growlithe said. He started following Skitty around, making Avaiy laugh. “It’s not everyday you see a Growlithe fall for a cat Pokemon,” she laughed. “Go on ahead; he’s not paying attention to me.” Miraw laughed too. “Yeah, you’re right. Skitty, use Tickle!” Without turning around, Skitty tickled Growlithe with her strange tail. Growlithe laughed silently for a little while, and then turned the laugh into a soft growl. “Growlithe, use your Ember!” Avaiy cried. Growlithe blew some flames out of his mouth. They all came in contact with Skitty, and she winced in pain. “Now, Skitty, end this with your Tackle!” Skitty charged into the love struck Growlithe. The attack sent Growlithe flying into a tree and knocked him out. “Return,” sighed Avaiy. She pressed the button on her Friendship ball and Growlithe disappeared in a flash of red light. She walked up to Miraw and shook her hand. “That was a great match. I really enjoyed it. Actually, I’d like to see more of those enjoyable matches, so I’m tagging along with you, whether you like it or not.” “Well, I like it, so it really doesn’t matter,” Miraw replied. “Great!” Avaiy exclaimed. “I’m looking forward to it.” “Dragon!” A Dragonair slithered out of the bushes near Miraw. It stared at her with its sparkling blue eyes. It blinked, and then slithered up to the young trainer. “Ummmm…” Miraw said. “Nair!” it said. Miraw believed this meant “Happy to see you again!” but she didn’t understand it. When had she met this thing? Or was it the same Dragonair that she had seen before? After Miraw pondered this, the serpent Pokemon tapped one of her balls with its horn. The ball fell on its head, and immediately sucked it in. The ball shook one time, and the Dragonair was caught. Miraw stared at the Pokeball in disbelief. A Dragonair had tapped the ball and let Miraw capture it. “Ummm… I think you should let it out,” suggested Avaiy. Miraw nodded and threw the Pokeball on the ground. It opened up and Dragonair came out in a flash of red light. Miraw pointed her Pokedex at the creature. *Dragonair, the serpent Pokemon Some Dragonairs are able to fly, but nobody knows how they do it without wings. Some believe that they call up a hidden power in their orbs that mysteriously lets them fly like Togetics. They are found in the deepest part of lakes and ponds, where only Super Rods or diving Pokemon can reach. Even then, they are still as rare as Chimechoes. At level 18, Dragonair should know Wrap, Leer, Thunder Wave, and Twister. This one knows…* “Wait a second. ‘This one knows?’” Miraw asked. *…Wrap, Leer, Thunder Wave, Twister, Surf, and Dragon Rage.* “DRAGON RAGE???!!!” Miraw yelled. “And only four Pokemon learn an HM move naturally, and those four are Goldeen, Seaking, Salmanace, and Rayquaza!” “Does it really matter?” asked Dragonair. “For all I know, my father was a Kingdra and my mother was a Dragonite. They were both set free by trainers because they believed that powerful creatures such as Kingdra and Dragonite did not deserve to be stuck in tiny Pokeballs without being let out. They both knew Dragon Rage and Surf.” “That about sums it up,” Avaiy agreed. “It does make sense.” Miraw nodded at her new Dragonair before remembering that she needed to check her Pokemon’s levels. She threw Vulpix’s Pokeball on the ground and pointed her Pokedex at the fox when she came out. *Your Vulpix is on level 7 and knows Ember, Tail Whip, and Heat Wave.* “Still no change in moves,” Miraw noted. “Vulpix don’t learn their third move until level 9. That’s when they learn Roar,” Avaiy told Miraw. Miraw pointed her Pokedex at Skitty, who was already out of her Pokeball. *Your Skitty is level 7 and is very close to level 8. It knows Growl, Tackle, Tail Whip, Attract, and Tickle.* “You don’t need to tell me Skitty’s next move Avaiy. I already checked when I first got her and she learns Sing at level 13.” “Mwahahahahahahahahahahah!!” someone cried. Miraw, Avaiy, Skitty, Vulpix, and Dragonair ignored the evil laugh and continued to walk, or, in Dragonair’s case, slithered, torwards Fiehea Town. A Team Aqua Grunt jumped out of a nearby tree and purposely landed on his head. Miraw and the others continued to walk. “Hey!” the Aqua Grunt yelled after getting his head out of the ground. “You can’t just ignore me! This is my first job!! Go, Trapinch!” Upon hearing this, Dragonair turned around and looked at the Trapinch. Miraw spotted Dragonair looking behind her, and turned around too. Avaiy and Miraw’s two Pokemon followed suit. “Finally! I caught your attention!” the Aqua Member shouted. He jumped for joy, giving Miraw enough time to get Trapinch’s data. *Trapinch, the Ant Pit Pokemon. Trapinches dig inescapable holes to capture their prey. They do not need to drink any water until evolution, and due to their holes, they can only drink water when it rains unless they could fly. Trapinch are found on any and all desert routes.* “Trapinch, use Bite on that Dragonair!!” the Aqua Grunt yelled. His Trapinch slowly walked over to Dragonair, then bit her tail. She winced in pain, but the attack didn’t really do that much. “Dragonair! Use your HM move! Surf!” Miraw shouted her orders. “And who in the world are you!?” “Skylar,” the Team Aqua Grunt, Skylar, grumbled as Dragonair fainted his Trapinch in one hit with Surf. “On behalf of Team Aqua,” he started yelling, “I will someday steal all of your Dragon Pokemon!!” “Team Aqua is dedicated to raising water levels, dummy,” Miraw told Skylar. “And Team Rocket is the only team that steals Pokemon,” Dragonair reminded him. “So, I’ll start my own team! I’ll name it after me! It’ll be Team Skylar, dedicated to capturing every single Dragon Pokemon!!” Skylar yelled. “And I’ve already started! Look!” He pointed to his fainted Trapinch, and then remembered that he was supposed to be returning him to his Pokeball. He embarrassedly pressed the button on his only Pokeball, and Trapinch disappeared in a flash of red light. He then ran into a tree. “Ouch…” Skylar said. He changed direction and ran out of the girls’ sight. Miraw returned Vulpix and Skitty to their Pokeballs and patted her newest Pokemon on its head. “Good job Dragonair,” she told her Pokemon. Dragonair rubbed her softly. Surprisingly, her body was smooth. Miraw had imagined it to be rough and scaly. She pressed the switch on the Pokeball Dragonair had chosen to be caught in, and recalled her serpent Pokemon in a flash of red light. *Author’s Note: Wohoo! Second chapter complete! Hope you liked it, and please remember to review. It makes me happy. I believe I’ve already decided on the name of the next chapter. It’ll probably be Champion Fight. What could I mean by that?*
