POKE’MON X:
      QUEST OF LEGENDS

The sun shown down brightly on the beautiful planet, allowing its
inhabitants the warmth of a new day. The vast, salty ocean reflected the
rich blue image of the cloudless sky. A gentle breeze blew across the lush
blades of green and yellow grass and stopped occasionally by the purple
snow-capped mountains. The planet harbored many strange things, but none
so strange as the Poke’mon. For centuries, humans and Poke’mon have lived
together, benefiting from each other through the work of the past. Some
use Poke’mon in sport-like fights, some study and observe them as a
profession, and some dedicate their lives to breeding them. Humans may
never know all the answers, but it’s interesting to know that there’s always
something else out there to find!

On a long suspension, a black moving truck with a white circle on the
side zoomed down the road at a bumpy pace. Inside the passenger’s side sat
a young woman wearing a yellow kimono with orange flowers. She had raven-
black hair tied with an indigo ribbon and shimmering eyes of sapphire that
stood out on her smooth peach skin. She looked barely older than twenty-one
years, and when she smiled, she looked even younger. "So, Mrs. Himura, what
made you decide to move out here?" The man driving the truck asked the
woman. "It was my husband; he owns a Poke’mon gym in Pettleburg, so my son
and I moved to be closer to him." She answered. "You’re husband’s a Gym
Leader? It’s nice to see that kids haven’t fully taken over the Poke’mon
world." The driver chuckled. "Poke’mon are such strange creatures, but
that’s all my son likes to talk about." The woman said. "Your son is a Poke’mon
trainer?" "Oh-no, he’s only seven years old. He’s been going to Newbark Tech
school and learning all he can to be the best trainer."
There was a sudden bump from the back. The woman gave a sort of
worried look and glanced back. "I hope he’s alright back there." "Don’t worry;
my Machoke won’t let anything happen to your son as long as he’s back there
with him" The driver assured her. Soon, the truck started passing a large
cluster of trees, revealing colorful butterfly-like Poke’mon fluttering in the
wind. "The Beautifly and Butterfree certainly are plentiful this morning."
The driver glanced out the window. "They look pretty; I wouldn’t mind owning
a Poke’mon like that." Mrs. Himura smiled.
The truck pulled into a quiet little town of lush trees, green grass, and
pretty houses. The town of Littleroot gave off a welcoming presence to its
visitors. The moving truck slowed to a halt in front of one of the suburban
many sun-yellow suburban houses. The red mailbox read "Himura" in black
letters. "This is the house, isn’t it?" The driver asked. Mrs. Himura nodded
and jumped out of the truck to look at her new house. "It’s beautiful;
Kenshin did great in picking this house." She walked around the back with
the driver and knocked on the side. "Okay, Koryushima, we’re here."
(*"Koryushima" means "sweet garnet") The driver opened the large door to
reveal a large, bluish-purple Poke’mon with massive muscles and a golden P-
one belt around its black wrestling bottoms. On its shoulders was a small
little boy. He was about seven years in age with sapphire eyes, long,
somewhat wild black hair that was tied at the back in a tail, and a tiny pearly
fang on the left side of his mouth. He was wearing a black hooded shirt and
khaki shorts. "Mom, my name is Landon." The kid gave a slick grin. "Landon,
what are you doing up there?" Mrs. Himura folded her arms. "Just hanging
around, that I was. This Machoke here is really strong." "Well get down
before you break your neck." She scolded him. "Machoke," Machoke gave a
disappointed look as it set the boy down.
The door of the house came swinging open and a man stepped out onto
the porch. He had long carrot hair, gentle blue eyes, and a cross-shaped scar
on his left cheek. He was wearing a purple samurai shirt and a white pair of
shogun pants. The sun shone down on his hair, but more so against the hilt of
the sword in his sash.  At this man’s presence, Landon smiled and waved.
This was Landon’s father as well as the legendary manslayer that fought the
Meaji Revolution in Japan. Kenshin, known more commonly as Batosi the
manslayer, was now a kind gentle man that swore he would never kill again.
"I see you made it here okay, that you did." Kenshin gave a sweet
smile. He walked over to Landon and picked him up onto his shoulders. "So,
how’s my little samurai, Koryushima?" He asked. "I’m fine; just letting this
Machoke teach me how to lift the truck ‘is all." "Listen, Landon, Karou and I
have to help move the rest of our belongings into the house. You should go
and explore Littleroot town on your own until we get done." Landon nodded
and jumped down.

Episode 1: Koryushima, a Yasa-onoko
Landon started down the sunlit sidewalk, gazing at the busy people
moving about, some on bikes and some on foot. "Hey! Hey, you!" He turned to
someone calling out to him"at least, he thought someone was calling out to
him. "Yeah, I’m talking to you." A girl with mahogany hair ran up to him. She
had amber eyes and smooth peach skin, and was wearing the exact same
outfit as Landon! "You’re wearing the same thing I am!" He pointed out.
"Yeah, it’s my favorite one. I have tons more at home just like it." The girl
stated. "Me too, in all sorts of different colors!" Landon exclaimed. It was
amazing; he hadn’t been here for more than a couple of minutes and he
already found someone to talk to. "I know you; you’re that raven kid that
just moved in." The girl suddenly grasped his hand and shook it. Landon
started to sweat anime style under her killer grip. He was also taken quite
aback by her straight-forward personality. "My name is Mayleen Birch, but
you can call me May." The girl said. "So, how about you? What’s your name?"
"My name? It’s Koryushima Himura, but you can call me Landon." Landon
smiled back, still sweating anime style. May took the lead and motioned for
him to follow. Landon hesitated for a little while before tagging along after
her.
The sun rose high in the air as they walked along the sidewalk. Landon
marveled at the different houses, but what really impressed him was when
they entered the town square. It wasn’t too far from his home which meant
he could come quite often. For such a small town, the streets were plenty
busy. Landon especially liked the fact that there were plenty of Poke’mon
book stores. It was a little hobby of his to study Poke’mon behavior and
physiology. "You’re a quiet little fellow, Koryushima." May glanced back
without stopping. "It’s just Landon." Landon said simply. "Sorry, Lan. So tell
me a little about yourself." "Well," Landon scratched his head and pushed up
the long bangs on the side of his hair. It seemed to be no use since they
flailed back down. "I just moved here from Newbark Town--that’s in the
Johto region--so that my mother and I could be closer to my father’s gym."
"Wow, you came really far. Go on; tell me about your personality." May gave
him an interested look. "My hobbies involve studying Poke’mon and watching
old samurai movies. My mother owns a samurai dojo were she teaches
students the Kamiya-Kachine style of swordsmanship." Landon said. "You’re a
samurai too? You get more interesting by the second."
The two stepped out of the square and up towards a small hill. They
didn’t seem to notice that they were walking up at a slant, for their
conversation was too deep. A gentle breeze blew across the treetops
soundly. "And you? What about your personality?" Landon started to sweat
anime style when May stopped abruptly. "You know my name already, but you
might not know that I’m the daughter of Professor Birch." She told him
kindly, "Just like you, I like to study Poke’mon, so I go along with my dad on
his trips. Unlike most Poke’mon professors, he’d rather work in the field than
in his lab." They came up to a large white building with sliding glass doors.
The little sunlight that did push through the trees shone on its white
structure. Landon watched the tree branches brush gently against the
building. He glanced through the forest lines in curiosity of his surroundings.
"Hmm...Huh?" He rubbed his eyes and blinked skeptically. It may have just
been his imagination, but he could’ve sworn he saw something in the
shrubbery. Something pink made its presence known for only a very short
second before it vanished into thin air. "What are you looking at?" May
turned to him. Landon didn’t respond directly, but rather kept his search up.
He could’ve sworn he saw something out there in the woods. "Oh, It’s nothing; I
just thought I saw something." He said without breaking his gaze. The door
to the building slid open with a swish. The man in the threshold was a rather
strong-looking man; his amber eyes and mahogany hair and beard matched
May’s to a tee. He was wearing a white lab coat over his black shirt and khaki
shorts, finished with a brown satchel that was slung over her shoulder.
Despite his buff appearance, he looked rather happy, like a Santa Claus.
"Huh, May? I thought you were still at home." He said. "I was showing
our new neighbor around the town, Dad." May replied, grasping Landon by the
arm, "Landon, this is my dad, Professor Birch." The man’s eyebrow twitched
as he examined Landon. He put his hand on his chin as if trying to remember
something. Landon gave him the serious frown that he wore when he met
adults. "...Koryushima? Is that really you?" The man asked. "You know me
somehow?" Landon raised an eyebrow. "Oh, yeah! C’mon in my lab and I’ll show
you." Professor Birch let the door open and allowed the two children in. The
Laboratory was a tranquil, yet amazing whirl of flashing lights of machines
inside. The sunlight poured through the windows onto the high-polished
floor. Professor Birch set his satchel on a nearby stool and walked over to
the corner desk. Landon glanced around the lab; there were many books
crammed into the shelves. Papers and magnifying glasses were spread all
over in an awful mess. Some shelves had red and white-colored balls instead
of books. "Welcome to my laboratory." Professor Birch said, pulling a picture
frame from the nearby shelf. "It’s not that big, but May and I hardly ever
spend a lot of time in it." Landon didn’t need him to say that; some of the
telescopes and computers were blanketed with a thin sheet of dust.
"Here, take a look at this." Professor Birch handed him the picture
frame. Landon examined the photo inside to see his dad and mom. For once,
his dad was wearing a blue kimono instead of his normal outfit. Standing
beside the two was Professor Birch, still hairy and smiling like Santa Claus,
and a mahogany-haired lady that was most likely May’s mother. At the very
bottom of the photo were a miniature version of May and a black-haired
baby beside her. "That fang..." Landon reached up and felt his fang-like
tooth. The kid in the picture had to be him; he was the only baby who
actually had a tooth at birth, let alone it being a fang. "I guess that is me."
He said. "Yup; I met Mr. Himura on a visit to Tokyo. That photo’s the only
time his wife got him out of that purple kimono shirt." He chuckled a little.
"Hey, dad, he gets the picture now and I have a better idea. Why don’t you
show him some of your super rare Poke’mon?" May pulled on her father’s lab
coat. Professor Birch smiled to her, "Calm down, May. We’ll get to the
poke’balls in a bit." He walked over towards the shelf with all of the red and
white balls. His sandals clicked lightly against the polished floor. May gave an
excited jump as she pulled Landon along by the shirt. Professor Birch
scratched his chin whilst he glanced at the shelf. It was as if he was
deciding which one to grab, but they all looked the same to Landon. "Ah, this
one," He finally decided and pulled one off. "Then I choose--"
SHHPWEEE!! There was a sudden crashing sound, followed by falling
shards of glass--a part of the roof that was glass now contained a jagged
hole in it! The three glanced up in alert with Landon clenching his fists.
"Haaa!" Two figures darted through the broken part of the roof and dropped
onto the ground deftly. The ninja-like men stood up straight to reveal their
short black hair. Their identical green eyes presented a sinister glint, which
matched their black white-lined cloaks. The two men grinned right at
Professor Birch, "Who do you think you are breaking in like that?!" The
Professor demanded. The twin on the right ran his hand through his hair,
"Chill out, pops," He said arrogantly. "Yeah, just give us all your rare
Poke’mon--preferably your EX Poke’mon." The other stated. Landon stepped
forward with his fists clenched. His eyes narrowed dangerously, "Who are
you and what do you mean by ‘EX’ Poke’mon?" His eye color flashed from
their gentle sapphire to a fear-striking violet. "You shouldn’t interfere in
matters that don’t concern little kids!" "You owe us an introduction." Landon
said in a more stern voice. "Landon, I’ll take care of this." Professor Birch
took a step forward and motioned for the kids to hide behind him. May was
totally obedient, but Landon resisted the impulse to listen for a brief
second. He shot the two twins a venom look before reluctantly hiding with
May. "The kid has got guts. And those guts deserved to be rewarded." The
two punched the air, led into a triple axle spin, and ended back to back with
their arms folded. "I am Ren," "I am Sen," "And we are two members of the
infamous Team Darkhorn!" Just then, the doors to the lab went bursting
open loudly. Immediately, all gazes were averted towards the front doorway.
"Hello," A calm and mellow voice sounded. The little boy in the entryway was
fairly older than Landon or May; his blond hair stood out against his smooth
mahogany skin and purple eyes. He put one hand into the pocket of his black
pants and brushed his purple shirt with the other. "I hope we weren’t
interrupting when we decided to drop in." He said as if nothing was wrong.
"Kill the comedy, Kid." Landon pushed out of the way of Professor Birch. The
boy’s eyes met with his deadly purple stare. "Landon, I told you to stay
behind me." "My name is Landon Himura," Landon completely ignored
Professor Birch. "And I’m Miru Masaya, the heir to Team Darkhorn." The Kid
said calmly. He raised his hand and snapped his fingers, "But we can’t waste
time on idle chatter, now can we? Ren, Sen, you two know what to do." The
twins bowed politely to him, then turned back to their victims.
They walked up to Professor Birch, who stood in front of his daughter.
"Step aside, old man!" Sen swung his arm and knocked the prof. off his feet.
"Ack!" He coughed once his side bounced on the ground. "...May, get Officer
Jenny!" "On it!" Still startled a great deal, May started away with tears of
fear dripping from her eyes. "Not so fast, little miss." Ren grasped the white
shelf and pulled on it; the structure went tumbling down to the ground with
an almighty crash, spilling the poke’balls all over the floor. The mess
barricade stopped May dead in her tracks. "We’ll be taking those now!"
WHIIISSSHH-PFPTH!!! Ren jumped back just in time from a smooth
wooden stick crashing onto the floor. Landon’s eyes were now transfixed in
their paralyzing purple as he held the stick to the ground like a sword. His
bangs swayed as if a gentle breeze was blowing to reveal a glowing blue light
on his forehead. The flashing insignia was an encircled pair of angelic wings
marked with a weird swivel in the middle. "Hmm..." Miru’s eyes narrowed.
"What are you playing at, Himura?" He thought. Landon pointed the
wooden sword up to Sen’s throat, "Leave now," He warned. But instead of
taking him seriously, the twin brothers laughed a little. "You don’t really
expect to stop us with a stick, do you?" They asked. Landon closed his eyes,
"I asked you politely to leave." "And we said NO!!" Sen drew back his fist; he
forced it forward with in a punch with all his might.
