Landon and Latias got to their feet in a droned state, not blinking once…or thinking for that matter. It was as if their real selves were sleeping dormant deep within them. He and the other Poke’mon walked towards each other and formed a single-file line. The simulated ocean vanished into thin air, revealing a hole in the wall. The controlled Poke’mon (and one human) started marching towards it, not breaking their ranks like an army. The corridor was lit with a string of blue light bulbs hanging from above. Even as the last Poke’mon entered, the water simulation remained to be drawn away from sight.

       “…..what happened? Where am I?”
Landon floated in an area of what seemed like water. His knees were hugged close to his body—or rather, the physical form his subconscious took on in his mind. He wanted to move, but it was as if an invisible rope was binding him. “What’s going on around here?” “Wake up, Landon!” A voice echoed through his mind’s ocean. “Who’s there?” “Wake up, Landon Himura! There are still those who need your help.” Landon opened his eyes to look around. “But it’s too hard—I can’t move.” “Yes, you can! Now go!”

As Landon walked along the corridor with the other Poke’mon, his eyes flickered with a feint spark of color. The Crystal Bell lit up dimly in reaction to his symbol that appeared on his forehead. His eyes became a lit with their lively sapphire and drew him back to reality. “…!! Huh?” Landon’s vision was blurred at first, so it was difficult to adjust to his surroundings through his clear contact lenses. “….Latias? Toya? What’s going on?” He asked, but no one replied. He finally was able to visualize his surroundings in the bright blue corridor. “Where in the heck am I? And what’s with you?” Landon walked backwards to look at his friends, still moving at a marching pace. Latias and the other Poke’mon just kept walking with spacey looks in their eyes. Thy moved like robots across the high-polished tiles of the floor. “Hmmm…” Landon glanced from Latias to his Poke’mon curiously. Being the only human around, he figured it was his Crystal Bell that made him zone out along with his Poke’mon. And if it could wake him back up, maybe it could wake the Poke’mon linked to his spirit. After all, it was the only conclusion he could think of at the time. Landon took the bell from around his neck and let it droop down in front of Toya’s face. The Crystal shone with a wriggling light inside that reflected in the Poke’mon’s eyes. Landon closed his eyes to concentrate on breaking the ropes that bound Toya’s subconscious mind like he did his own. With a sharp charge, the light in the Crystal Bell jolted around inside like a rabid ping-pong ball. The color to Toya’s eyes flushed back to their mahogany form. “…Mudkip?” She stopped and shook her head. “Come here, you!” Landon pulled her into a big hug and she eagerly hugged back. “Now, Let’s free everyone else.” One by one, Landon used the Crystal Bell to break the bind on all of his Poke’mon. He used the link of friendship he had with May and Zeru to free their Poke’mon. “How are you all feeling?” Landon asked and the Poke’mon yelped in gratitude. “Glad ta’ hear it.” He smiled. Latias was the last Poke’mon that he could wake up on his own. He held the crystal bell before her eyes, concentrating on breaking the hold on her subconscious. With a ricocheting spark bouncing inside, the color reappeared into Latias’s eyes. “….huh?” She blinked and rubbed her eyes. “Are you okay, Latias?” Landon asked out of concern. “Yeah, I just feel weird.” Latias stopped with her friends mimicking her. “Where are we?” She asked. Landon shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t even know why we’re down here. All I know is that we woke up….well, here.” Latias let her eyes wander to the Poke’mon that were still hypnotized. With no one to break them free, they continued to march on. “It’s like—” “—they’re being controlled somehow.” Landon turned to Latias and grinned, “And I bet that if we follow them, we’ll find out who’s behind all of this.”

Landon and Latias followed the Poke’mon as if they were still hypnotized. Landon returned all of is Poke’mon except for Toya, Torchic, and Treecko. The corridor finally came to an end, yielding a sliding glass door that was too dark to see through. Landon clenched his fists in a mixture of excitement and anxiety. The doors at the end of the corridor slid open to a Makuhita at the head of the line and they filed out. Landon and Toya stepped through the threshold and onto a stairway balcony. They gasped; the entire room was metallic with lots of computers decorating its floors and walls. Graphs and charts littered the area. There were rooms on the lower level shut off by the same kinds of doors and, in the middle of the room, was a large cylindrical machine. It reached from the floor to the ceiling like a giant turbine with a glass center. Inside were Sneasle and Exploud. For some strange reason, they were both surrounded by a strange green aura. Gathered around the base of the cylindrical machine was a group of all kinds of Poke’mon. They all just stood there like statues. “What is this place?” Latias took a shocked step back; it worried her to see fellow Poke’mon so lifeless. “It looks like some sort of laboratory.” Landon said. The Poke’mon from the game corner filed down the long staircase towards the center of the room. “Hey, Lan, take a look at that!” Latias pointed frantically downwards. At some of the computers were humans in Team Darkhorn outfits. Others were walking around with clipboards in their hands, chatting quickly to one another, then dispersing. “Team Darkhorn,” Landon frowned, “No wonder why we passed out—this is another Team Darkhorn scam again.” “Hey, why aren’t you two in uniform”

A voice caused the five to freeze in their spots. One of the Darkhorn grunts came up the steps with a clipboard in his hand, eyeing them suspiciously. “….wait a minute! You’re not a part of Team Darkhorn—you’re Landon Himura!” He turned to face over the rail. “We have an intruder! I repeat: Landon Himura is in the lab!” He shouted. Landon clenched his teeth and glanced down. Like little bugs, the scientists scattered all around the equipment. A few of them raced towards the stairs to confront their intruder. “What are we going to do?” Latias asked. Landon’s eyes wandered around the room; there had to be something he could use to his advantage. There were too many to fight off, so he would have to run away. The steps rattled as the grunts scaled it, poke’balls ready. “I’ve got it!” Landon snapped his fingers and reached to his belt. He drew the poke’ball with a leaf sticker on it and set it on the ground in front of him. “Bayleef, I choose you!” The poke’ball burst open and spat Bayleef out. “Bay—ee!” BANG!!! Landon staggered backwards from his Poke’mon’s affection tackle and bite. “Not now!” Landon shouted, “I need you to use your Vine Whip like a rope to grab that pipe up there.” He pointed to a thick metal pipe on the ceiling. “Bay—bay,” Bayleef nodded. From underneath her leaf necklace, two green vines shot into the air and wrapped around the pipe. “We’ve got you now!” The lead grunt gave a giddy grin as they raced up the last fleet of steps. Landon put Toya on his head and knelt down. “Everyone, get on my back and we’ll try to swing to that clearing.” He pointed to a clear spot behind a few deserted computers. There were tons of corridors around—they could easily lose the pursuers if they ducked into one of them. Latias wrapped her arms around Landon’s neck. “Treecko-ko!” It nodded. Landon stood up shakily. For Zeru, this would be a pinch, but he was having difficulties just standing. “Bayle?” Bayleef gave him a worried look. “I’m fine; we have to go, now!” Landon grasped one of the vines and the two pulled themselves to the top of the rail.

“Go, poke’balls!” The grunts tossed their poke’balls at them. Bayleef kicked off the rail and soared through the air with her passengers. “Yaaaahh!” They all screamed. The wind blew harshly in Landon’s face, making it difficult to see. “They’re getting away!” One of the grunts shouted. Bayleef let go of the pipe and allowed them to fall towards the space behind the computer. While she landed on all fours, Landon tripped and crashed on his face. “Ugnn….” He groaned. “Landon, are you okay?” Latias asked frantically, jumping off his back. “I’m fine—just fine,” Landon got to his feet and dusted himself off without opening his eyes. “Bayleef, nice work,” He recalled his Poke’mon back to her poke’ball. “There’s no escape now, Himura.” “Huh?” From either side of them, a group of Darkhorn grunts blocked their paths. The closer they stepped, the closer the young heroes huddled, until their backs were touching. “What are we gonna’ do, Landon?” Latias asked. Landon clenched his fists and teeth. “Just give it up—there’s no way you’re breakin’ out of this one.” A bulky flunky stated. “….Maybe we can…” Landon grasped the top of his swords sheath. His thumb pressed lightly against the hand guard of the Sakaba-tou. “Treecko, could you and Torchic do me a favor?” He asked. “Torchic—tor,” “Treecko,” The Poke’mon nodded. “Okay, Treecko, use Petal Dance!” “Treeecko-treeecko!” Treecko started to pirouette on one foot like a spinning top. From its tail, a spiral of pink petals cycloned into the air sharply. “Torchic, burn ‘em all with your Ember attack!” “Tooorrr!” Torchic’s feathers puffed as it launched a battalion of red hot cinders in the air. The leaves were set ablaze and rained form above like comets. “Ahhhhaa!” The grunts scattered from the sparking fire balls, screeching. Landon raced forward and unsheathed his sword; he swung at anyone who got in his way at lightning speed, knocking them down. “C’mon!” He shouted. Latias scooped up Treecko and Torchic and sprinted down the path Landon had cleared for them.

Landon turned down one of the long corridors in an attempt to lose their followers. He was holding Latias about the hand so that she wouldn’t fall behind. Toya grasped Landon’s hair so she wouldn’t fall off. “Treecko!” Treecko pointed to one of the doors. “Okay, we’ll try that one.” Landon wrenched the door to the right open and let his friends file in first. He slammed the door shut behind himself and waited with his ear pressed to it. The footsteps of the Darkhorn grunts thundered right by the room along with their loud voices. Latias, Treecko, and Torchic sat quietly by Landon’s legs. When the last footstep scampered across the hall, Landon whispered to Toya, “Are they gone?” “Mudkip…” Toya’s headfin twitched, scanning the area like radar. “….Mudkip,” “It’s all clear.” Landon said. Latias stopped holding her breath and stood up. “That was a close one. I thought they’d find us in here for sure.” “Where is here anyway?” Landon glanced around at the vast room. Desks cluttered with several papers were chucked by the walls; computers along the walls were still active. Scraps of metal and unfinished trinkets were scattered across the work tables. Out of curiosity, Latias walked up to one of the desks and started reading the papers. She sifted through them slowly, picking out the ones that interested her. Landon folded his arms and frowned. "We need a plan to get out of here. It’s only a matter of time before those thugs find us.”  His attention was suddenly drawn by a glass case on the wall across from him a lit with a blue light. He walked closer for a better look at the contests. Landon and Toya pressed against the glass lightly, taking a look inside. Sitting on a cushion were six poke’ball-like items, except that they were all black with the Team Darkhorn symbol on the top. In the middle of the poke’balls was a gold ring engraved with weird symbols around its circumference. It looked large enough to fit around someone’s arm. “What kind of place is this?!” Latias exclaimed. Landon, Treecko, and Torchic quickly dashed over to her. “What’s wrong?” “Look,” Latias held out a large blueprint to them. On it were construction plans of the items Landon saw in the glass case. “….so, Team Darkhorn has been producing special poke’balls—Snare balls—to capture EX Poke’mon without fail?!” Landon frowned again and read down the page, “Furthermore, they’ve invented a prototype machine that can control the minds of Ex Poke’mon.” “That’s how we got here—they were controlling us!” Latias concluded. “Yeah, but I’m not a Poke’mon. How was I controlled?” Landon blinked. Latias prodded the Crystal Bell, “Because of your connection with your poke’pals. You feel what we feel.” She explained, “That also explains why all those Poke’mon were by that large machine. Miru must need something from EX Poke’mon to run this project.” Landon stated. “You two figured out our plan. That’s not bad for a couple of snoops.”

Someone voiced. Landon, Treecko, Toya, and Latias got on their guard. From the shadows above, a black figure dropped down onto the floor like a ninja. Her green hair was tied into two pigtails instead of one braided tail like before. Landon grasped the hilt of the Sakaba-tou with his right hand, his eyes turning to their venomous purple. “Feh! I knew those two idiots couldn’t keep you two away. Now it’s up to me to take out the trash.” Yumi pulled a poke’ball from her sash and expanded it. “My name is Yumi, an Admin of Team Darkhorn, and I challenge you to a single Poke’mon battle!” Landon lowered his guard, letting his sword go. After all, who was he to turn down a battle? “Okay, I accept your battle.” He grinned. “Be careful, Himura. You’ll see that battling me will be a whole new experience as well as the consequences. Go, Dustox!” Yumi tossed the poke’ball and it burst open in the air. The Poke’mon that came out was a giant moth, purple in body color, with four tiny red legs. Its eyes as well as its large antennae were yellow. Its green wings were decorated with four red spots that looked like eyes. Occasionally, when it flapped its wings, yellow dust drifted onto the ground. “What kind of Poke’mon is that?” Landon withdrew his Poke’dex and flipped it open. Click-ick!! “Dustox, the Poison Moth Poke’mon. The fine dust that drifts from this Poke’mon’s wings is actually a form of poison. Dustox uses this poison to subdue its prey.” It spoke. “Fine, then I call Toya!” “Mudkip-Mudkip!” Happy to fight, Toya leapt off her trainer’s head. Yumi drew a gold ring from her sash—one that looked just like the one in the glass case. Yumi opened it and clasped it around the top of her arm. The ring sparked with white light, “Dustox, Rage-EX power,” “Oooox!” Dustox screeched as its body became surrounded by a faint white aura. “What did you do to that Poke’mon?” Latias asked worriedly. “The Darkhorn Ring does more than control EX Poke’mon.” Yumi grinned, “It powers them up by enraging them and forces their EX power.” “But that’s wrong! EX Poke’mon should react to kindness and inner power, not anger!” Latias interjected. “Don’t worry, Latias—errr, Lena. We’ll teach her the true power of an EX Poke’mon.” Landon flashed a thumbs-up to his friend.

“Go, Dustox, use Tackle attack!” Yumi shouted. “Oooox!” The bug Poke’mon launched its body through the air with a screech. “Tackle it back!” Landon said. “Mudkip-kip!” Toya threw herself upward; the two crashed into each other sharply, resulting in a stalemate. “Use Water Gun attack!” “Muuudkip!” Toya made gurgling sound as she spurted a jet-stream of water. Dustox fluttered wildly in the air as if it just had a cup of hot coffee. “Dustox, show ‘em how strong your Whirlwind is.” Yumi put her hands on her hips calmly. Dustox flapped its wings heavily, but swiftly. Their was a rapid beating sound as they repeatedly drummed against its sides. The wind around it started to swirl powerfully around the room. Toya frowned as she tried to keep all four paws on the ground. “Hang in there, Toya!” Landon’s hair swayed in the powerful wind as a small cyclone kicked up. Toya’s Water Gun broke against the wind and she became engulfed in the spinning entity. “Muuuudkipp!” She cried, becoming dizzy from all the spinning. “Whoaaa… I feel weird…” Landon nearly lost his balance as he dropped to one knee. His body felt as if he were whirling in that cyclone with his Poke’mon. “Toya, use Water Gun attack!” He forced himself back to his feet. “Mudkip,” Toya opened her eyes in the middle of the wind. She opened her mouth and fired a blast of water. “No way!” Yumi watched in marvel as Toya turned the Whirlwind into an airborne whirlpool. With total control over the attack, the mudfish Poke’mon splashed out onto the shiny metallic floor. Drops of water from the subsiding whirlpool spattered all around the room. “Great job, Toya!” Landon cheered to his Poke’mon. “Don’t praise your escape just yet. Dustox, use your Sleep Powder now!” Yumi ordered. “Dustox-Dustox!” Dustox soared through the air, sending a sparkling blue dust form its wings over Toya’s head. “Ha! Blow it away, Toya.” Landon gave a confident grin. Toya took in a deep breath and let out a puff of air, warding off the attack. A boost of confidence flowed through both Poke’mon and Trainer. “Poison Sting!” “Dustooox!” Dustox flapped its wings heavily to shoot an array of sharp, glowing yellow pins. Toya skipped around the ground as they clattered onto the ground. “That’s right, Toya—keep going!” Landon cheered. “Dustox, stop playing around and hit her!” Yumi shouted. The pins shooting from Dustox became more wild and out of control in their descent. Toya to sweat rolled and skipped away. “Mud-mud-mud-mud-ah!” Suddenly, she tripped over her paws and crashed to the ground on her stomach. “Toya!” There was the sound of breaking needles as the pins stormed against Toya’s body. “…!!” Landon’s vision started to blur in and out of focus. His head started to spin and his body became so weak that he could barely support his own weight. He dropped to one knee, clenching his teeth. Toya’s body moved in the same dizzy way as her trainer’s. “Landon, what’s wrong?” “Torchic-tor!” “Cko!” Latias, Torchic, and Treecko called out to them. “We’re….poisoned!” Landon forced his body to his feet, struggling to keep his sight straight. Toya panted from being battle weary. Landon clenched his fists to try and keep his wits about him. “If you’re liking the poison, Landon, then you’ll love this next move.” The ring on Yumi’s arm sparked with a wild energy. “Dustox, use your Meteor Tackle!” “Meteor—what?” “Dustoooox!” Dustox screeched, hurling its body down through the air like a rocket. The white aura surrounding Dustox became brighter, tailing like a comet. “Dustox—” “Dustox— “Dustox—” As if it were using Doubleteam, copies of Dustox shot from the main Poke’mon’s body. “What in the heck is that?!” Landon cried. The quintet of Dustox shot at Toya and pelted her body so heavily, that the ground shook. “Aaaahaa!” “We mustn’t give up, Toya!” Landon was back down to one knee and his Poke’mon was sprawled out on her stomach. “How’d you like that? It’s a little move Dustox learned from an enraged EX.” Yumi grinned at first, then started to laugh. “Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! You amuse me Himura.” She watched as Landon and Toya forced themselves back to their feet. “Through all this, you’re still trying to fight? The inevitable isn’t something to delay.” “Heh,” Landon let out a grin. He was barely all the way up on his feet, but was grinning with Toya as if they had already won. “You underestimate us, Yumi.” “Mudkip-mudkip!” They exclaimed. “Oh, I underestimate you, do I? Well, another Meteor Tackle will shut you down. Go, Dustox!” “Ooox!” Dustox shot through the air, surrounded by the white aura once more; its body flashed into a quintet of copies. “Now, Toya, use Iron Tail!” Landon shouted. “Mudkiiip!” Toya’s tailfin started to glow with a clear energy. She forced her eyes to focus on her opponents, even though they would blur on occasion. “Do it now!” Landon exclaimed. “Mudkiiip!” Toya spun on her front paws, bringing her now-glowing tail around. It crashed into each Dustox heavily, sending them flying to the ground. “Dustox!” Dustox’s copies dispersed upon contact with the ground. “Oh-no! Dustox!” Yumi cried, more worried about losing the battle rather the pain of her Poke’mon. “Finish this with Water Gun!” “Muuud!” Toya forced a jet of Water from her mouth that forced Dustox into a wall. “Grrrr! Dustox, return!” Yumi called her Poke’mon back to her Poke’ball. “Great job, Toya.” Landon flashed a thumbs-up to his Poke’mon. By now, the poison was taking its toll on Toya. She collapsed to the ground with labored breathing. “No, Toya!” Landon dashed over to her and cradled her in his arms. He felt her trembling slightly from the pain against his body. “Return to your poke’ball.” He fumbled to pull her poke’ball from his belt and called her into her ball. If she was in there, he could get her to the Poke’mon Center easier. Then, Landon’s eyes turned to their venomous purple. He glanced up at Yumi, who thought her heart had stopped. She felt as if she could barely breathe and that her body was frozen in place. She was so scared out of her wits that she couldn’t even speak. Landon grasped the hilt of his sword silently. With a sharp intake of air, he rushed towards Yumi, withdrawing the Sakaba-tou. “Whaaaaa!” Yumi screamed.

Landon, who was now on the other side of Yumi, re-sheathed his sword. “That should do it.” He said. Latias, Treecko, and Torchic gawked in awe. The room was filled with such a deadly silence, that everyone could assume the worst. There was a cracking sound, followed by a spark from Yumi; the ring on her arm split into three pieces, falling to the floor with a clatter. Yumi gulped and let her eyes wander down to the broken metal. “….Grrr!” She whipped around at Landon, growling, “I’ll get you yet, Landon Himura!” With that, she jumped into the air, literally disappearing into thin air. “C’mon, Latias, we have to go destroy that machine and get Toya to the Poke’mon Center!” Landon told Latias. Since Toya was in her Poke’ball, the poison didn’t hurt him as much anymore. Latias, Treecko, and Torchic nodded, following him out into the corridor.

Landon panted slightly as he and his friends raced down the corridor. He tried to focus on remembering the way to the large laboratory, but his mind was stuck on Toya. Every second pained her, which in turn, pained him. “Please hang in there, Toya. I’ll have you in Nurse Joy’s hands in no time.” “Landon, do you want to rest?” Latias asked. She was so concerned that she didn’t take her eyes off of him for a second. “No, I have to keep going—for Toya’s sake!” Landon refused to stop running. “Hey, look! Those kids are back!” Voices followed by footsteps rushed up from behind. Latias glared back at the Darkhorn grunts chasing them. As a matter of fact, they were the same ones form earlier. “Why can’t you just leave us alone?” Latias’s eyes flashed with a blue glow. DOOF! “Ahhhff!” As if an invisible wall was formed in front of them, the grunts crashed into something solid and hard. “That should keep them busy.” Latias grinned. The four disappeared out of the corridor and into the main lab. “There it is!” Landon pointed to the giant machine in the middle. By the time some of the scientists noticed them, they had already zoomed by. Once again, the pandemonium kicked up loudly, but Landon didn’t care. He’d run over anyone who stood in his way or die trying. “I’m going for it!”

Landon picked up speed, pulling away from his hand at the top of his sword sheath. He only had one shot—he didn’t have time to make a mistake. He jumped from the floor onto a desk and from there, into the air towards the wave-maker. “Snea?” “Exploud! Exploud!” From inside, Sneasle and Exploud started to move around frantically. After all, being cut to ribbons wasn’t something anyone would enjoy. Sneasle used its sharp claws to cut a hole in the glass center. Through it, the two Poke’mon jumped out and ran for their lives. “Suishou Jewel-blade—” Landon withdrew his sword and held it over his head. The blade glowed with a hint of crystal energy. “No, you fool, you’ll destroy the wave-machine!” One scientist shouted. “Dragon Hammer Strike!” Landon brought the Sakaba-tou down through the air and through the machine. Sparks flew as it tore through the metal components. “Noooo!” Since scientist shouted. Landon touched down on the floor and dashed back towards Latias. The wave machine spark madly and dangerously. “We need to get out, now!” Landon grasped her by the arm and put Torchic and Treecko under his free one. Without another word, he pulled them up the long staircase as fast as he could, literally lifting them off their feet. “It’s gonna’ blow!” “Get out of here!” “Somebody warn Master Miru.” “Forget Miru! We need to go!” The scientists went in a frenzy of craziness as the machine started to combust at some parts. Back in the balcony office, Miru watched as the people started to wake up. Poke’mon came spilling out of the secret corridor, returning to their respective trainers.

Miru sat in his big chair with a disgusted look on his face. “Landon Himura…once again, you’ve foiled my plans. You are starting to become a real problem that must be fixed right away.”

“Do you have to leave already?” Landon asked Latias. Toya, who had been in the care of Nurse Joy, was sound asleep in her trainer’s hair. May and Zeru held their Poke’mon in their arms silently. The group was standing beside the main entrance of the night-shadowed Poke’mon center. Landon had explained to his friends everything that happened underneath the Beacon game corner to explain why they were knocked out on the floor. “But you just got here.” Landon told Latias. “Yeah, but I really need to get going.” Latias said, staring at the ground. Landon glanced into the air, letting out a silent sigh. “Goodbye, May and Zeru,” Latias bowed politely to them and they bowed back. “It was a pleasure meeting you.” “And you, even though you didn’t stay long.” May smiled. Latias looked at Landon again, who was looking up at the night sky. Her smile turned into a look of wanting.“…..you will miss me, right?” She thought-spoke. Landon glanced to her and smiled, “Always,” “Cool!” Latias flashed a thumbs-up  to him and started down the sidewalk. “Bye!” “Bye-bye!” “See ya’!” The three waved to her. From atop the Poke’mon Center roof, Yoshimari and Tsubimi sat and watched the kids. They were back in their Team Darkhorn uniforms and proud of it. “You know what stinks about this episode, sis?” Yoshimari asked and his sister nodded. “Yeah, the fact tat we were hardly in it. I was glad we weren’t the ones who got defeated today, though.” “Yeah, feels good to let someone else face Miru’s wrath.” The two siblings slapped each other a high-five and waved to the sky. “Till next time!” (….well, like they said: till next time on a new adventure of “Poke’mon X”)
