Prologue Our heroes were camping on top of Mount Killayouifayounotcareful. It’s icy/rocky peak is a great place to catch some hard to find pokemon, such as golem, glalie, and jinx. So Ash, of course, thought it would be a good place to train his charizard. (Actually it was Brock’s idea, because Mount Killayouifayounotcareful has hot spring resorts, and he wanted to meet girls.) At the moment though, they were arguing as they camped out on the side of the mountain. “Ash! Why are we out here freezing, when we could be warm in the resort hotel?!” shouted Misty. Her fiery temper did nothing to warm her body up. Her orangey hair had a few ice crystals in it, and let’s face it: Misty just doesn’t dress for cold weather. “Well, I can’t very well train in a hotel room, can I?” was Ashes reply. Brock was excluded from the conversation, as he was too busy sulking about meeting all the girls in the ski lounge a few miles up the mountain. If he wasn’t mumbling occasionally, you’d think he was asleep, what with those squinty eyes of his. “Look,” said Ash, “I’m going to go take Pikachu and Charizard and look for wild pokemon. You two can go up to the resort and relax while I’m gone. Sound good?” “Well…….” Misty said, “I guess it would be alright. So long as you don’t get into trouble. What do you think, Brock? …..Brock?” Brock, having heard Ash say to go on up to the resort, was already halfway there. You could here him shouting about beautiful girls even at this distance. Misty sighed. “Alright then,” she said, “just be careful. Those three idiots are here somewhere.” Of course, the three idiots she was referring to were Team Rocket, who were in fact digging a pitfall trap at that very moment. “I’ll be careful! What could go wrong?” Ash said, “Oh, take my other pokemon with you, they deserve some relaxation.” He turned to his faithful friend, Pikachu, “Ready to go buddy?” “Pika pi!!!” (You betcha!) Was the electric rodent’s reply. And off they went. Misty sighed again and started after Brock. Two hours later, there was an explosion. Misty and Brock, (who had finally stopped for Misty) stopped dead in their tracks, as the explosion was immediately followed by a loud rumbling. They were worried about Ash, but they didn’t need to be. An Officer Jenny (Why do they all look the same? Clones I bet!) came by the resort shortly afterward asking if anyone knew Ash Ketchum. Brock and Misty said they were. Jenny handed over Ashes pokedex, jacket, and slightly bloodied hat. “I’m afraid he was caught in the avalanche that was caused by the earlier explosion. This is all that we could find. He has most likely frozen to death by now. I’m sorry.” Misty and Brock looked like someone had just hit them both in the stomach with a sledgehammer. “Dead? But that can’t be!” exclaimed Brock. Misty just stood there, looking like someone told her everyone on Earth was just diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. “I’m afraid it is. I’m going to have to ask you to go to his home town to inform his family. If we find his body, we’ll send it. These tickets will get you both a plane back to Pallet Town.” Officer Jenny handed the tickets over and left. Brock and Misty went to a nearby airport the next morning. They told Ash’s mother Delia in person what had happened, because they couldn’t bear to tell her on the phone. Arrangements were made, but before the funeral could start, they had to get in touch with some people….. Chapter 1 3 Weeks Later Ash’s funeral was finally today. The various people Ash had met during the course of his adventures had gathered to pay their respects. Brock and Tracy were busy shuffling to-and-fro with trays of food while Misty and Delia greeted people as they came in. The funeral was being held at Prof. Oaks lab. As Brock was carrying a tray of food out into the hall, he unfortunately crashed into an arriving guest, causing all of the food he was carrying to fall onto the ground, along with Brock. “Ooh, sorry man,” the young boy exclaimed. He helped Brock to his feet. “I should’ve been watching where I was going.” “No problem,” Brock said. “Hey, if you don’t mind, could you help us carry this food out to the other guests, we had no idea that so many people would show up, and we could use another pair of hands.” “Well I don’t think I can offer another pair of hands…..,” The boy said. Brock actually looked at him for the first time. He was missing his left arm. “Oh. Ummm sorry, I didn’t see…” Brock trailed off. “No biggie. Happens all the time. My name is Rick.” Rick was dressed quite plainly: brown jeans, brown shirt, and a nice pendant with a red jewel. His hair was red, and his eyes were black. All in all, not bad looking. “Did you come for the funeral?” Brock asked. “Ummm… yeah, that’s probably why, considering that the sign outside says only people attending the funeral should come in.” Rick replied. “Oh, yeah.” Brock mumbled. “Just how do you know Ash?” “Oh, I used to live here in Pallet. Ash was friend of mine, so I came to town when I heard about his death.” said the young lad. “Well go on in with everyone.” Brock instructed. When Rick was gone, Brock turned to Misty. “Did you see that guy?” He asked. “Yeah,” she said. “he said he lost his arm in a pokemon attack. All the nerves were ripped out, so they couldn’t even give him a prosthetic.” “Ouch, I wonder how long-” Brock was cut off by another voice, “Brock, Misty!” It was Richie, a kid so much like Ash it was weird. “Richie!” Misty said, “I’m glad you could make it! Sort of…” “I didn’t really believe that Ash was dead until just now, when I got here…..” Richie said. “ How did he die?” “Team Rocket dug a pitfall that would collapse under Ash with some explosives. …But the explosives triggered an avalanche and…. Ash was caught in it.” Misty explained. “Oh man, that’s horrible!” Richie said. “Go on in with everybody else.” instructed Misty. She turned to Brock. “Well that should be everybody, lets get this over with.” Outside, another funeral was taking place. Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Bayleef, et al were centered around 2 small graves. Though they mourned for their fallen master, their sorrow for Ash could not match their sadness over Pikachu’s death. Ash’s remaining pokemon erected a monument to him. When news of Ash’s death spread, surprising visitors came to pay their respect. Mewtwo for instance. “I grieve for the death of this human. He was… superior in many respects.” he commented. The various pokemon Ash had released over the years had managed to attend as well. A small service for Pikachu and Charizard was held by the pokemon, and was suspected to be the first funeral to be held by pokemon for a human and his pokemon. Needless to say, Prof. Oak was recording the entire thing. His young assistant Tracy Sketchit was also present, but instead of going into his usual sketching frenzy, he seemed to be unable to even lift his pencil. His mind was far too busy thinking of Ash. Tracy owed pretty much everything he had to Ash, from the many sketches of pokemon that he had accumulated to becoming Prof. Oak’s assistant. It would not have happened if he and Ash had never met. Eventually, he and the professor had to leave for Ash’s burial. That’s when things started to fall apart. Chapter 2 At the end of the day, the eulogy and burial had taken place. (The burial was really just for show. They never found the body after all!) Everyone was eating lunch at Oak’s place. Brock was hitting on a few girls and was actually pulling it off. He was about to get a phone number or two when Misty pulled him to the side. “Hey! Come on! I was actually gonna get their numbers! I mean geez! For once I get a bit of luck and you come and ruin-” “Brock, shut up and listen! There is a lawyer here to see us.” Misty explained. “Wha? A lawyer? But I’ve been obeying all my restraining orders! I think….” He said. He began counting them all on his fingers. “No you haven’t and it’s about Ash’s will.” Misty yelled. “Huh?” Brock was confused. “Ash made a will?” “Looks that way, yes. He’s inside, let’s go!” Inside Professor Oak’s lab, Misty and Brock joined Gary Oak, Professor Oak, Delia Ketchum, Richie, and Tracy. They were all seated around a large wooden table (Oak of course!) and all looking very confused. “Are we ready to begin?” The lawyer asked. “Good. Now it seemed that Mr. Ketchum left a number of things for each of you in the event of his death. I won’t bore you all with the details and just tell you what you each received: To Mr. Gary Oak, the deceased left his pokedex. Here you go.” “Hmmph! Well at least he was good for something in the end.” Gary smirked. Surprisingly, the only person who said shut up was Tracy. Richie looked as though he was halfway to wrapping his hands around Gary’s throat. “May I continue? Thank you. To Mr. Brock: he left his jacket. To Ms. Misty, he left his backpack. To Mrs. Ketchum, his hat. To Prof. Oak: all the pokemon he owned for his research. And finally: to Mr. Tracy and Mr. Richie, all the money he had collected over his life, amounting to about 3,000 dollars each. Well that’s everything, I’m gone!” With that he got up and out the door. Needless to say everyone was speechless, everyone except of course, for Gary. “I can’t believe that you two losers ended up with all his cash! Well I say good riddance! We’re all a lot better off without him! Brock can finally get a girl, Misty can hook up with that Rudy guy, Mrs. Ketchum will finally get that workout room she always wanted, and I can finally-” Gary was cut off at this point, because Richie had leaped across the table, and was currently trying to knock out all of Gary’s teeth. Tracy ran over, but instead of breaking them up, he started stomping on Gary’s torso. It took everyone else in the room to get Gary out of their reach, when Rick walked in. “What’s going on?” He inquired. “This bastard over here is saying that we’re all better off without Ash!” shouted Richie. “I don’t need this!” said Gary. “I’m off!” And with that he was out the door. Everyone began to disperse, except for Richie and Tracy. Tracy pulled Richie over to the side and said, “Richie, I don’t think that Ash is dead, do you?” “No way! He was too much of a die hard! They never did find his body, maybe he survived somehow!” “What are we waiting for? Let’s search Mount Killayouifayounotcareful until we find him, or real proof that he’s dead!” And with just that they were off. Meanwhile, at the grave of Ash, three figures were standing. They didn’t say anything and after a while left. Some said it was Team Rocket, but people doubted it, besides, it looked like there was only one human. Back with Tracy and Richie now! By the next morning they were well on their way. It was many months before anyone heard from them. During that time, the others continued on with their lives. Brock went back home and finally got a girlfriend. (A Nurse Joy, no less!) Misty ended up going steady with Rudy. He moved to Cerulean City just to be with her. And Delia continued on with her life as she always did since Ash left on his journey. For a while they were happy. Tracy and Richie had no luck finding any sign of Ash. It was as though he was taken off the face of the Earth. Eventually they found out what happened, on their way back to Pallet, but Ash was not what they expected…… Epilogue It was 3 months after Ash’s funeral, and Richie and Tracy had pretty much given up hope. They were walking back to Pallet when they met an old friend. “Hey look it’s Rick!” Tracy exclaimed. “What have you guys been up to all this time?” Rick asked. “We’ve been looking for Ash, but we just couldn’t find any trace of him.” Richie explained, disappointed. “Have you now? Well then I guess I could tell you something I know. I happen to know what happened to Ash, and where he is!” Rick said with mild interest, as though he were revealing the location of a taco stand or something. The two friends just stood there dumbfounded for a minute. Then they quickly followed him into the woods. The woods didn’t seem to be on any map, and it’s trees were black and foreboding. Rick led them to a secret waterfall that was simply majestic. “Go on through. There’s a cave on the other side.” As they went through, they got soaked from head to toe. But their months of searching were rewarded by what they saw in the cave. Charizard was sleeping in a corner, with none other than Pikachu across from it. But Ash was conspicuously absent. Richie was confused. “Hey, where is Ash?” “Yeah! You said you would take us to him!” agreed Tracy. “Where is he?” Suddenly a familiar voice spoke. “Why I’m right behind you!” Richie and Tracy whirled around, but what they saw was only Rick. But something was wrong. All the red in his now wet hair was coming out, revealing his true hair color: black. Then they understood, it was a red hair dye! His eyes had changed as well. They had gone from black to chocolaty brown. It was not Rick who stood before them, but Ash Ketchum. Minus an arm, but otherwise whole. “WHAT??!! ASH??? IS IT REALLY YOU??” Shouted Richie. “Yes, my apparently only faithful friends. Say hello to our guests Pikachu.” Instead of a friendly greeting, however, Pikachu issued only a loud hiss. Much to the confusion of Richie and Tracy. “Dude, what’s up with that?” asked a slightly frightened Richie. “Oh, don’t mind that. He’s just forgotten who you are. Don’t worry though, you’ll have plenty of time to get reacquainted.” Ash said in a calm, almost scary voice. Tracy did not like where this was going. “What do you mean Ash?” He asked, with more than a little fear in his voice. “Probably what you think I mean. You two are going to stay in this cave for a few days. I need to get a few things done before I get back to my old life, and I just can’t have you two running around telling everyone I’m alive. In fact it would really ruin the surprise for a few certain disloyal individuals.” He replied with a smile. The smile, however, failed to reach his eyes, which seemed to be changing color again. But this time to red. The red pendant he wore around his neck was glowing a bloody crimson. The two boys had unfortunately failed to notice that Charizard had woken up, and had snuck behind them. They realized this now, but by now, Charizard had tied them up. As they protested, Ash was preparing to leave. Pikachu was already on the other side of the waterfall, and was only waiting for Ash and Charizard. “Sorry about the rough stuff guys, but don’t worry, I’ll be back in a couple of hours!” He assured them. As he walked out, Pikachu jumped to his shoulder. “Are you ready Pikachu?” He asked his oldest friend. “Pika pi chu!” (Yes. Let’s kill them all!) was his reply. Just like his trainer, his eyes were red. “Good. Because we are going to make them pay for abandoning us! Every. Last. One. Of. Them.” He suddenly screamed into the sky. “THEY’LL PAY!!!!!!!!!!!!” And with that, he walked on with his two pokemon to exact his vengeance.
