Chapter 3
	Leaving home was hard for Juno.  But, with sadness always comes happiness.  
And his happiness was to be able to finally leave home!  Elekid was a little sad 
himself.  The guy had only been in his birthplace for a week!  But Elekid was 
still happy.  He often expressed that by laughing and playing a lot. 
	Walking down the path of route 1 seemed all too weird for Juno.  Usually 
down this route he rode his bike.  But, he couldn’t take his bike with him, as 
it was too big.  Walking did change things for the better.  Now both Juno and 
Elekid were more aware of there surroundings, and they got to appreciate the 
beauty of Mother Nature.  
	Juno didn’t just walk around willy-nilly though, but he had a destination.  
He wanted to find the water source that ran to the nearest town, Emerald.  Soon 
enough the familiar sound of water running came to his ears and so, Elekid and 
Juno went of course to the river.  
	To get to the river, Juno had to pass through tall grass. (You know what 
this means :))  With Elekid at his side, they cautiously waded through ever 
alert of any movement.  Soon enough, the sound of a creature could be heard in 
the grass.  “Ready to catch our first pokemon?” asked Juno to his faithful 
companion.  Elekid just nodded in anticipation.  Closer and closer they inched 
to the sound until through the grass a small animal could be seen pawing the 
grass.  “Hey that’s a male nidoran!” exclaimed Juno.  But the nidoran wasn’t 
dumb.  And as soon as he heard Juno he bolted away.  “Dang!  I should have known 
better then to shout like that…. YOWCHHHH!!!  Why did you do that for Elekid?  A 
smoking Juno looked where Elekid was pointing.  They had reached the bank of the 
river, and the nidoran could be seen running with the current.  “Let’s go after 
it Elekid!”
	  Juno and Elekid sprinted head on toward the nidoran, but the creature 
wouldn’t give up, and ran faster.  It seemed like hours they were running.  Juno 
would have given up, but Elekid wouldn’t hear of it.  Suddenly the nidoran 
stopped.  As looked to see the reason for stopping, he saw a slowpoke with a no 
nonsense look on its face, blocking the nidoran’s path.  “Go ahead sonny.  I 
want to see if you can capture your first pokemon.”
	“Huh?” said Juno.  A smiling old man stood here.  “I want to see a good 
capture.”   Juno then understood.  The slowpoke was that man’s pokemon.  “I’ll 
try!” said Juno happily.  The nidoran seeing that there was nowhere to run 
turned around and faced Juno.  It put it’s horn down and charged.  “elekid 
charge up and ice punch and then await my signal.”  Elekid’s fist stared to glow 
a blue aura, as white frost developed over his hand.  The nidoran was getting 
closer.  More white frost developed.  The nidoran was closer.  The charge was 
complete.  The nidoran was practically on top of Elekid!  “Now dodge to the 
right and punch!”  Elekid sidestepped the nidoran quickly, and while the nidoran 
was trying to brake, Elekid neatly punched it, sending it flying.  The nidoran 
quickly got up and with it’s back paws, sent sand and dirt towards Elekid.  
“Elekid quick block!”  Juno hastily countered.  When Elekid dropped his guard, 
he was sent flying back two swift kicks from the nidoran.  The combo was simple 
and effective, proving to topple Elekid backwards.  But the faithful pokemon was 
far from done, as he swiftly sent nidoran to the ground with a swift sweep kick.  
Then Juno had a plan.  “Elekid quick use thunder wave, and then another ice 
punch!”  Even if thunder wave’s rings were slow, it didn’t make must difference 
at point blank range.  The nidoran was enveloped in three electrical rings, 
fully paralyzed.  Then Elekid charged up ice punch.  This time more quickly then 
before.  Then he implanted a swift hard punch to nidoran’s side.  The nidoran 
flew a few feet, but this time when it landed, it didn’t get back up.  “Alright 
pokeball go!”  Said Juno excitedly.  The pokeball hit the nidoran and started to 
bounce around.  Once, twice, three times finally a ping could be heard as the 
redlight on the button died down.  
	“Yes we caught our first pokemon Elekid!”  Juno and Elekid started to jump 
up and down holding each other’s hands.  “Good battle sonny!  That was the most 
exiting battle I’ve seen in years!”  Said the old man kindly.
	“Thank you for helping me out sir.”
	“No problem.  Maybe when your pokemon are better we can battle.  But, only 
if you go easy on me.”  Juno and the man both laughed at this.  “Well sonny I’ll 
watching out for you at the pokemon league.”
	“You really think I could make it that far?”  
	“As long as you have faith sonny.” Replied the old man.  Then Juno asked, 
“How far away is Emerald town?”
	“Why it’s just over this here hill.  You must have chased the nidoran 
far!”
