Chapter 4
	The only reason Emerald town was even on the pokegear map was because of 
the gym it had.  If it weren’t for that, well it wouldn’t even be a town.  It 
was the smallest town in the rock league.  The only thing worth visiting other 
then the gym was the beautiful park that was there.  Juno first went to the 
pokemon center.  He turned his pokes into to Nurse Joy, and within a matter of 
minutes, they were healed.  He let nidoran out to get to know Elekid.  Shortly 
after a brief talk, they became friends. 
	After leaving the center, he went to the gym.  The gym was the biggest 
building in the town, and was decorated with many exotic plants.  Well, this 
mean’s that the gym is probably a plant type gym.  Juno quickly went through 
what to use.  “Hmmm… well ice is super effective against plant, so Elekid's ice 
punch would be used a lot.  Also nidoran would do equally.  I might have a 
chance.”  He stepped into the gym.
	When Juno got inside, he saw a lush grassy field, with trees and other 
plant’s on it. Also a lady was standing on the opposite end of the field.  “I 
take it you’re here for the badge, am I right?” asked the lady.  She must not 
get many house calls thought Juno.  He replied with, “Yah.”
	“Very well.  3 on 3 match. Do you accept?  Juno blushed.  “I knew I should 
have caught more pokemon!” he thought to himself.  He said, “Ummmm… how about a 
2 on 2?” 
	“No.  And if you don’t accept you won’t be able to battle me for a week 
since I will be away.”  Juno was beginning to not like this woman.  “Fine I 
accept!” was all he said.  “Well well, I chose oddish!”  And the match began.
	“Go Elekid!” 
	“Hmmm…  not very wise.  Oddish use razor leaf!”   “She’s playing for 
real!” thought Juno.          “Elekid dive now!”  Elekid dove to the ground 
dodging the barrage of sharp leaves.  He then got back up and fired a quick 
thunder shock at Oddish hurting it some.  “Oddish use your absorb!”  The Oddish 
fired a vine at Elekid and reeled him towards her.  She then started to suck up 
Elekid’s life.  “Oh no!  Elekid if you can, fire a thunder shock down the vine!”  
It proved affective as the Oddish reared back in pain, dropping Elekid.  
Suddenly Juno had an idea.  “Use the sweep kick combo that you used against 
nidoran!”  Elekid nodded, then swept Oddish to the ground via his feet.  Then he 
thunder waved Oddish causing the Oddish to not be able to move.  Then charging 
up an ice punch, he smashed his fist into Oddish, freezing it, and putting it 
out of commission.  “I’ll have to say your Elekid is well trained.  But can it 
stand up to this?” said the lady withdrawing a pokeball from her waste.  
“Elekid, can you still fight buddy?” asked Juno to his faithful companion.  
Elekid just nodded, and waited for it’s next challenge.  “Bellsprout I chose 
you!”
	“Hmmm… a Bellsprout.”  Juno consulted his pokedex.  Bellsprout: an 
extremely fast plant/poison type pokemon.  It’s attack matches it’s speed making 
it a good pokemon for battling.  Its weakness is it’s low defense power.  But it 
will rise when it evolves.  “Good thing it didn’t evolve yet!”  Juno was already 
formulating a plan.  “Ok.  Elekid needs to send a quick barrage of attacks.  
But, they have to be physical.  So… I got it!  Elekid run towards the 
Bellsprout, but keep zigzagging to throw of its aim!”
	“So.  Your going to use physical attacks, eh?  Well I won’t let you!  
Bellsprout keep firing vine whips in a sliding form!”  The Bellsprout sent out a 
vine, which started to whip at a large range.  Elekid now had to jump and run at 
the same time.  Luckily, Elekid had enough endurance to keep up with it and kept 
on going.  “Ha your Elekid never ceases to amaze me.” Said the woman.  “But can 
it dodge two attacks?  Bellsprout use acid!” 
	“Oh nuts.  I have to think….  Hmm ok it’ll work!” said Juno to no one in 
particular.  “Elekid thundershock the acid!”  The acid was water based, so the 
electricity went through it and inside the Bellsprout’s mouth causing the 
Bellsprout pain.  Elekid had effectively stopped both attacks at once.  “Oh no!  
Bellsprout!” said the lady.  Elekid was now close enough.  “Ok Elekid ice 
punch!”  Still running, Elekid drew back his fist and the familiar blue aura 
formed around it.  Then he strongly punched the Bellsprout KO’ing it on contact.  
“Great job Elekid!”
	“Your Elekid is really something else.” Said the lady.  “But it’s not as 
good as this pokemon!  Go Chikorita!”  
	“Elekid return.  Your tired.”  When the red beam of energy was about to 
hit Elekid he dodged it and gave Juno the thumbs up sign showing that he could 
still fight.  “Your pokemon are very loyal to you.  It pain’s my heart to defeat 
you.”  Said the lady.
	“We’ll see who does the defeating!”   Said Juno. 
	“Very well.  Chikorita! Use razor leaf!”
	“Elekid dive….” But before Juno could issue a command, the leaves hit 
Elekid at full force.  Cut’s formed on Elekid, but he just pulled them out and 
threw them down defiantly.  “Wow!” thought Juno “That’s one tough pokemon!”  He 
pulled out his pokedex.  Chikorita:  Being a pure grass type, this formidable 
pokemon learns powerful grass moves at an early level.  It also master’s these 
moves quickly.  Before Juno could think, the Chikorita jumped high in a body 
slam attack issued by its trainer.   “Oh oh.  What do I do?” though Juno.  The 
Chikorita was getting closer and closer to Elekid.  Finally an idea sprang to 
mind.  The Chikorita was about to hit.  “Elekid use thunder wave!”  The waves 
effectively paralyzed Chikorita, but didn’t stop the body slam attack.  Now both 
pokemon were both paralyzed.  “Elekid use ice punch!”
	“Chikorita use reflect!”  The ice punch hit the reflect screen, shattering 
it, but effectively stopping the attack.  Then the Chikorita used its vines to 
hit Elekid a few yards away.  As a last ditch effort, Elekid used thunder shock 
hurting the Chikorita.  But it took elekid's last bit of strength away, and it 
collapsed exhausted.  “Nice try buddy.”  Juno said recalling Elekid.  “I have no 
other choice.  Go Nidoran!”  The small poison type pokemon hit the floor 
growling.  “Nidoran has awesome speed.”  Thought Juno as he recalled the nidoran 
running.   
	“But it’s not enough!” said the woman.  “Chikorita razor leaf!”  
	“Nidoran run!”  And Nidoran lived up to the second part of its name and 
ran.  He ran and ran each time barely dodging a flying leaf.  He ran and ran 
until he reached the wall.  Unluckily, two leaves were closing up on him, and he 
couldn’t run anymore.  He turned and stared defiantly at the leaves, and shot 
from his horn, two miniature horns, which pierced the leaves, and stopped them 
dead.  “Wow!  You know horn attack?”  Nidoran happily nodded. 
	“That won’t win it for you!  Chikorita use body slam!”  The plant pokemon 
hurled itself into the air and aimed right at Nidoran.  But Juno was ready for 
this one.  “Nidoran ready a poison sting, and point your horn upwards.”  A 
secretion oozed from Nidoran’s horn as he pointed it at the oncoming Chikorita.  
The Chikorita could do nothing but watch.  “Oh no!”  Said the lady.  Now the 
Chikorita was badly hurt, paralyzed, and now was poisoned.  “Arghh!!!  Chikorita 
use solar beam!”  This was probably her trump card.  Juno didn’t know what to 
do.  If the beam was fired, Nidoran would surely lose.  He looked at Nidoran, 
and saw something.  When Chikorita body slammed Nidoran, it drove his feet into 
the ground.  When Nidoran removed his feet, dry dirt was uprooted.  Finally, it 
struck him.  “Nidoran use the combo that you used on Elekid!”  He seemed to 
understand, for he flung dirt at the Chikorita.  The Chikorita closed its eyes 
to avoid it.  When it opened it’s eyes, there was Nidoran his feet contacting 
Chikorita’s neck in a powerful double kick.  When it was over, the Chikorita 
couldn’t get up.
	Juno didn’t know what to say.  He won his first gym match!  The Nidoran 
broke him out of his moment by jumping on him and licking him joyfully.  “Nice 
job kid.  Said the woman.  For your excellent match, I award you with the 
emerald badge.”  The badge was in the shape of a leaf, but it was made out of 
emerald.  “By the way, I’m not really going away for a week.  I just said that 
to test if you had the trust in your pokemon to go on with the battle.”
