Chapter 1: Pieces of Me ***FLASHBACK*** May walked out of her little house in Littleroot Town and sighed. She was the newbie in town and hadn't made any new friends. Her parents already had friends here, the Birches, and her mom was over there. She walked up to thier front door, and was about to knock, when she heard her mom talking. "May has been so sad lately, she's barely talked at all. I'm worried about her." There was a pause. "She's just stressed outover moving," Mrs.Birch said. May chose that moment to knock. Mrs. Birch answered the door, a surprised look on her face. "Hello May, come on in," she said. "We have a son your age, May. Why don't you go up and meet him?" May walked up the stairs. A white-haired boy was at his desk. "Hi," she said shyly. GRR! That's what she hated about moving, the making-new-friends part. The boy jumped up. "I'm guessing you're my neighbor. I'm May," she said. 'How dumb of me,' she thought. "Oh, I guess you're right. The name's Brendan." May noticed the Trainer Gear on his desk (Meaning like the Pokedex, the Poke'Balls and PokeNav). "Are you a trainer?"she asked. He nodded. "Aren't you?" he asked her. "Not yet," she said, feeling incredibly stupid. "Do you want me to help you catch one?" May was about to answer. "Oh shoot," he said. "I forgot, I'm supposed to help my Dad with his research. I will soon, okay, Yam?" "Huh?" "Yam is your name spelled backwards." "Oh. Well, your name is Nad Nerd!" she shot back. Brendan ran off, leaving May staring after him, a lovestruck look on her face. ***END FLASHBACK*** It was the first time they had met. She hadn't known then how much Brendan would ever mean to her. All she knew was that she had some silly crush on her next-door neighbor. She was only a simple thirteen year old; it didn't mean anything at that time. But now, every single moment that she had ever spent with him was a treasured memory. That's all she had of him now. Memories, pictures and little keepsakes. It was all the past. They had no present. The scenery changed all of the sudden. May's eyes hurt from the drastic increase of light. Every color stood out in her mind, and May recognized every sight (to an extent). Her next picture was a hallucination, a memory, a dream. Whatever it was, it wasn't real at all, unless she was dead. "May! Are you okay?" he asked her. May rubbed her head and tried to stand up. She caught sight of herself in a nearby puddle. 'This is weird... I haven't dressed like this since I was thirteen... And I feel a lot shorter...' That's when realization smacked her. 'I'm thirteen again... But, how is this possible? People don't go from twenty-seven to thirteen in a matter of minutes! And why is he here?' "I'm okay," she told him, and then paused. "But, Brendan, what are you doing here?" Brendan grimaced. "Oh, wow. You must've hit your head hard. But hey, at least you still remember what my name is. May, hello! We're travelling together!" "But, B-Boy, we can't be travelling together! This must be a dream, because I'm not thirteen! I'm twenty-seven, I'm married to the Pokemon Master, my husband was just shot by Steven Stone, who has escaped from prison and I'm a rich, miserable bitch!" Brendan shook his head. "May-ple, May-ple, May-ple... For one, yes, you are thirteen, Steven Stone IS the Pokemon Master and NOT an escaped prison and you are not married. You are not rich, I really hope you're not miserable and you're not a bitch, not most of the time, anyways." May took some offense to that. "I am NOT a bitch. Not yet, anyways. Why am I here? Where am I?" "May, I don't think you'll be a bitch again until you wake up tomorrow and can't find your toe rings, you're here because our parents are making us travel together and you are on route 102 and we're almost to Petalburg so you can visit with your dad." "But what about Wally? He's bleeding!" "Who's Wally, May? Why is he bleeding? Oh my gawd... You are SO lost." "Never mind, B-boy..." "May, do you want to camp out here? It's starting to get dark." ***FLASHBACK*** Brendan screamed. "Did you have a nightmare, Brendan?" called May. Brendan screamed again. "She's back from the dead! AHHHHH!!!" May punched him in the arm. "Baka," she muttered. (A.N: FYI, baka is Japanese for idiot) Brendan was shaking. "But you were dead five minutes ago." May blinked at him. "B-boy, we're going to see the shrink tomorrow. You obviously have mental problems that you need to work out," she told him. The next day, as promised, May dragged Brendan to an expensive shrink in Petalburg City. "Talk to the nice man about your problems," she told him. Then she walked out the door to say hello to her dad and shop. "What is your problem?" asked the man. He had a German accent and a huge pimple on his nose. He looked like a witch (sorta). "May was dead last night and then I opened my eyes and she was alive," Brendan said to Dr. Pickledude. Dr. P stood up and flicked Brendan on the forehead. "It's called a dream, you baka." Then, for some strange reason, a bunch of Jamaican people walked out of a closet. The people plus Dr. P started singing. "Ha ha! Ha ha! Ha ha! We are the Ha ha Men! Coming to you from the Ha Ha Ha Hamas! Ha ha! Ha ha! Ha ha!" Brendan rubbed his eyes. He wasn't seeing things, which is what he thought was the case. But it wasn't true. May walked in the room, Irish step dancing. Brendan rubbed his eyes again. He WAS seeing things. 'I really must be going crazy,' he thought. Finally, Doctor P. and his Jamaican friends stopped their singing and Brendan ran out. He collided with May, who was coming to get him. He began to cry. "NO MORE, MAY! NO MORE!!! NO MORE JAMAICAN MEN SINGING WITH DR. PICKLEDUDE AND NO MORE IRISH STEP DANCING!! DON'T EVER MAKE ME GO BACK!!!" May blinked. 'I am never taking him to a shrink again. It does too many strange things to his much too little mind. But he is so cute,' she thought. "Fine, fine, fine! No more shrinks," she told him. Brendan looked at May. "May, can I tell you something?" May stared at him. "I like. I like. I like your shirt." ***END FLASHBACK*** 'We were on this route when he had the nightmare that made me send him to the shrink. He might've held a grudge on me for it,' May realized. "No way! We can walk for a little while more till we get to Petalburg!" "Um... Okay... May I ask WHY?" Brendan asked while giving her an odd look. "I don't want to sleep in a tent tonight! Is that so much to ask?" she questioned. Lying to him was kinda easy. 'I have a chance to change everything. And if it all works out, then Brendan won't shoot himself in the head and I won't marry Wally and me and Brendan could be together!'
