Ok, I started cracking up when I realized this but you know the song "Jenny Was A Friend of Mine" by The Killers? It sounds like Hold On, only the guy killed himself instead of his girlfriend in Hold On. The song is about the guy killing his girlfriend. Hmm... I could use that for the end of this... NAW J/K!! Okay, well, here's part 4. Chapter 4: Close May walked to the Petalburg with a sickened feeling in her stomach. Well, not exactly sickened, but more like a fear, because now she didn't know what to expect. she thought if she had to come back, at least everything would still be the same as it had been. But she was so wrong. Wally, her retarded, alcoholic husband, was now a Team Magma member. And that alone had changed destiny, especially since she knew she would not marry him and he would not be Pokemon Master. Did that mean that she would have the same future with Brendan? No, she told herself. There was no evidence to support that they'd even date this time around. And besides, Brendan was NOT like Wally. And she was not going to kill him again. She was still as much in love with him as before. He wasn't the same Brendan as the one that kidnapped her. That Brendan was sick, and it was because of her. She was going to change things now. "May, are you okay? You're being really quiet and usually you're talking ninety to nothing," Brendan asked, breaking the cloud of silence that had somehow surrounded them without May even realizing it. "Yeah, I'm good. Just thinking." "About what?" he questioned her. she had to make up a lie, for she sure as hell couldn't tell him that she was thinking about her past life where he had a split-personality and was suicidal. "I don't know, I'm just kind of nervous about seeing my dad. I haven't even talked to him since we moved here." Good lie, Norton! Go for the talk about your parents... Then he'd never suspect what she was REALLY thinking. But even if she told him, she seriously doubted he'd believe her. She wouldn't even believe herself. "Do you miss talking to your dad?" Aww, now he was trying to push conversation! No, no, that didn't mean anything. Brendan was an extremely friendly person. "No, not really. I have nothing to miss. We've never really been close. Are you close to your dad?" She decided she liked this new conversational Brendan. She already felt closer to him. "I'm not extremely close with him, but I'm still pretty close to him. I usually don't ever get close to anybody." "Why not?" Was that one of the reasons why everything happened? Because he had trusted her and thought she had betrayed him? "Because that just gives people more oppritunity to hurt you," he told her. "But once you get close to people, you also have the oppritunity to have more good things happen to you." "Yeah, I guess you have a point. You know, I mean, we just met a day or two ago and I feel like I already know you. I feel kind of close to you and I don't know why." She knew why. Because if this was real, she would be 27 and he would be dead. She preferred this. She smiled at him, so thankful she had the chance to smile at him again. "I feel the same way, it's weird." They walked a few more paces and she knew they didn't have to say anything more. They were at the Petalburg Gym. She opened the door, almost afraid of what she'd find, even though she didn't know what that would be. "Dad?" she yelled out. "I'm here!" One of the back doors opened. "May?" someone called. Her dad walked out into the room. "Oh, it's you!" Yeah, Dad, great greeting. "And you must be Brendon, Jacob's son." Brendan shook his hand. May was slightly impressed. "Yeah, that'd be me. Nice to meet you, Mr. Norton." "Likewise. You're as much of a gentleman as your mother constantly says." Well, at least now, she wouldn't have to worry about her dad not liking his son in-law. No! She couldn't be thinking like that. A small kid walked into the gym, only May recognized him immedietely. Just her stupid brother coming in to say hi. "Hi Max," she said with a little wave. Max snorted. "Who are you, lady?" Apparently, in this weird alternate universe, she didn't have a dweebish brother. "You know him?" questioned Norman. "No," May said with her most innocent smile. "I just have an uncanny knack for names." Brendan was giving her a strange look, but oh well, it was better than saying she was from the future and in that world, this nerd was her brother. "We've got to go. Please excuse us," Brendan said, racing them out of the gym. When they were outside, he grabbed her and shook her by her shoulders. "Ow! I'm mentally retarded enough, don't you think, B-boy?" "What was that about in there?!" "I just called him by some random name. I don't know the kid! I didn't know that Max was his really name. It was a freakish coincidence!" She hated to lie to him. "Oh... Well, you're weird!" he said and he swung her around by one hand. To passersby, they must've been a strange sight but May wished she had a camera because she wanted to capture the moment forever. With everything that came out of his mouth, she fell more in love with him. For fourteen years, she had held onto those same feelings and now she had the chance to be with him again. She loved the way his hair flipped when he bobbed his head and she laughed when he smiled because he had no clue what was going on. Finally, they calmed down and they just sat downon the little patch of grass and laughed. "May?" Brendan questioned, looking her straight in the eye. Was he about to ask her out? No, she doubted it. She had to be mistaken. "Yeah, B-Boy?" It finaly felt natural to call him that again and she loved to say the name. "I like-" He seemed to be choked up. What was he going to say? She was holding her breath. "I like your shoes." That was what he had done the last time! That's what made her think he liked her to begin with. Was everything starting again? No, she decided. Everything was going to be so much better.
