Chapter 2: The 6:00 news She sat there, crying, for a long time. She wondered what that note meant. Someone was up to some new tricks... But why? And who in the hell would send her such a thing? It was such a mystery to her, feeling the old fear that she had when she had been kidnapped by Brendan. The kidnapping could never have anything to do with this note. Her kidnapper was dead. Shot himself in the head. And besides, it all happened years ago, so why would somebody do something now? May heard glass breaking in the living room, but yet, she didn't rush to pick it up. She knew that Wally had just dropped a beer bottle, as he did almost every night. It was amazing how she kept up such a charade and was able to pretend she had such a perfect life. The only perfect life she ever would've had would've been with Brendan. Scratch that idea. It was just a childish prank, probably. The little kids down the block were probably really bored and decided to entertain themselves by scaring the neighbors. May laughed to herself. that's all it was. A prank. Right? That picture kept flying through her head. Brendan was dead... He couldn't be sending her freaky notes. But who else would? It's not like anyone actually knew that he had commited suicide. Steven Stone had been arrested for murder and kidnapping, but he was in jail and basically an okay person. Right? Agitated, she sat down on the couch next to Wally, and made a mentally told herself not to let him ever know about the note. He would overreact for sure. He'd think it was about him. He thought everything was about him. But even if he was drunk and slurred his words, May heard what he said loud and clear. "Hey, that guy that killed Brendan escaped from jail."
