Chapter 34: A Chat With Steven Just as Taylor had told me, they released me two days after I had arrived, two days before my fourteenth birthday. I was in the city of Mossdeep at last, and it was a beauty. Considering the doctor had told me to take it easy, after my tearful reunion with Zach, Sam and Vicky, I went to see my old friend Steven. "Why, Jenn, come in. I'm surprised they let you out so early," Steven greeted me. "They put me on a million different medications but yeah, they let me out." "So I guess you're going back to your life of travelling," Steven stated. "Well, I don't know," I admitted, going back to my thoughts in the hospital. "Why?" Steven asked, surprised. "Well, I mean, maybe all I'm bringing upon myself is trouble. Look at where I ended up." "Jenn, listen to me. You fight evil organizations. It's what you do. That equals trouble, not the fact that you travel. Did you travel when you fought Team Rocket in Johto?" I blushed. "Well... no." "See? You got yourself in trouble with Giovanni because you overthrew his team. You got in trouble with Maxie because you tried to fight against him. It's not because you travel. It's because you believe in doing what's right." I was confused. "So I shouldn't do that anymore?" Steven shook his head. "That's not what I'm saying. I'm just telling you to be careful. They're dangerous men, Jenny. Look at what they've done to you. They have no conscience. They'd kill you in a second." "That's scary," I commented. "But it's true." "That's what makes it so scary." "That other guy that saved you... Taylor, right? He's part of Team Magma, isn't he?" I nodded. "Maxie threatened to kill his mom if he didn't join. So he did. He saved Nathan from Maxie, and me from Giovanni." "Maxie doesn't care who you are, if you don't have power. But if you're one of the ones that can do something in the world, then he'll do everything in his power to get you on his side." "So I've learned," I told him. "Listen, Jenn, it's late and you should get to bed. Nathan told me he wants to get you in bed all day tomorrow." I was disgusted. "EW! That's not cool!" Steven blushed. "I guess I worded that wrong. He meant that he wants you to rest all day tomorrow so that you can be okay for your birthday."' It was my turn to blush. "Oh." And so I did go to bed that night, and I did rest all the next day but I couldn't sleep that night, excited for my birthday.
