***AUTHORESS NOTES*** If it seems like I'm rushing to finish this story, it's because I am. I'm dying to write the sequel, give me a break! I just realized that I didn't do a disclaimer, so I'll do that now. Disclaimer: I don't own any part of Nintendo or Pokemon. I do own Jenn, Nathan, Josh, Valerie, Bobby, Taylor, Vicky, Zach and Brooke, so if you want to use them for your own fic, send me an email first.' Okay, here's part 44! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chapter 44: Remeeting the Enemy "How did she talk me into this?" I grumbled, pulling on the jean miniskirt. "This is way too short..." "But Jenn, you look cute!" exclaimed Vicky. I glared at her as I brushed my long hair back. "Vicky, I'm wearing one of the skankiest pink tank tops I've ever seen and a jean miniskirt with pink high heels and hoop earrings so big that a Swellow could fly through. I look like a hooker! How did you and my mom talk me into this?" "So that you look nice on TV," the blond replied smugly. "We have 15 minutes to get to the arena. Let's go!" So in my despair, I hobbled in the two-inch heels to the arena entrance, showed my registration to the guard and was allowed access. Considering that I arrived about three minutes before starting time, my opponent was already there. And I was immensely shocked at who it was. "Phoebe?" I gasped. She only had to take one look at me, already knowing who I was. "Jenifer Frost?" she yelped. "I thought I would never have to see you again!" "Likewise, and that's exactly why I've been so happy lately!" I shot back. "Now my boyfriends can breathe safely." "You're the one who stole MY boyfriend!" Phoebe yelled. "That was only because you tried to steal Ryan Nichols from me! Payback is a bitch, isn't it?" I retorted, using a line my mother had often used on me growing up. The intercom was the only thing that saved me from yelling at her further. "Welcome to the second day of the Hoenn League, folks! Our 2 o'clock battle today is our returning challenger, Jenifer Frost, against Elite 4 member, Phoebe!" A cheer rose up from the crowd, only I wasn't sure if it was for me or Phoebe. I had to kick her butt. I HAD to. "Jenifer and Phoebe's battle will be like the others: 3-on-3 with no items! Let the battle begin!" +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* "Uh-oh," muttered Sam as he saw the two challengers yelling at each other in the arena. "What's wrong?" questioned Vicky as she followed his gaze. "Me and Jenn used to go to school with Jenn's opponent. Her name is Phoebe and Jenn hated her to death. Phoebe wasn't too fond of her either. But Phoebe tried to steal Jenn's boyfriend once and Jenn got her back by stealing Phoebe's and ever since then, they've been major rivals." "Then it probably isn't too good that Jenn's battling her, is it?" asked Vicky. "Definitely not. Phoebe brings out Jenn's full competitive side," Sam responded. "Shh, it's starting!" scolded Zach as the intercom announcements began to broadcast. +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* "I am so going to kick your ass," Phoebe mumbled. "You've got that wrong. I'm going to kick your's," I mumbled back. And one of the major perks of going to Johto had been never having to see HER again. And yet here she was. I was SO going to beat her. Phoebe enlarged her first Pokeball. "We'll see about that!" she laughed as she released her first Pokemon, a Dusclops. I grinned, realizing that it was I who had the type advantage in this battle. And I definitely planned to use it to the extreme. "Go, Shadow!" I called, releasing the Disaster Pokemon. Phoebe paled a bit, but proceeded to attack first with a Shadow Ball attack. "Dodge it, Shadow, and use Crunch attack!" I commanded and the ghost type wasn't fast enough to dodge the move. Shadow sank his teeth into him and Dusclops shuddered in pain. "While he's up close, Dusclops, use your Shadow Ball!" Phoebe demanded. Absol got it kid of bad and fell back a few steps. I bit my lip. "Okay, Shadow, let's use a faint attack!" My dark type disappeared and Dusclops looked around wildly with it's one eye. Suddenly, it appeared as if the ghost type was being beat up by, well, a ghost, as an unseen force began to attack Phoebe's Pokemon. The Dusclops was left badly wounded, but not knocked out. Yet. "Use your earthquake!" Phoebe yelled. "What?!" I cried. The ground began to tremor violently and Shadow was knocked off his feet. "That's it," I muttered under my breath. "Shadow, use your Aerial Ace!" Before Dusclops had a chance to dodge it, Shadow struck the cyclops quickly and left it laying on the ground. It didn't move. "Well, look at that! Jenifer's Absol has knocked out Dusclops!" Duh. It was more than a little obvious. "Dusclops!" exclaimed Phoebe as she raced to her Pokemon's side. "Damn you, Jenifer Frost," she murmured. In a louder, less angry voice, she told Dusclops that it had done a great job and called it back. She enlarged her next Pokemon with a maniacal glint in her eye. "Let's go, Sableye!" she exclaimed. Holy crap. Good Pokemon, no weaknesses... Please kill me! This wasn't going to be pretty. But I wasn't going to end up on the bad end. I couldn't! +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* "This isn't good," muttered Sam. "This isn't good at all." "What isn't good?" questioned Zach. "That Sableye has no weaknesses, because it's part dark and part ghost. If Jenn loses to Phoebe, she'll be impossible to be around for the next month or so." "She won't lose," said Taylor confidently. "How do you know?" asked Vicky, joining in the conversation. "She won't let herself. She's way too stubborn." +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* "Crap!" I muttered. Shadow had successfully dodged Sableye's last few attacks, but the Disaster Pokemon was growing tired and couldn't fend off Sableye for much longer. The arena was growing quiet, in anticipation. You could practically feel the tension in the air. The tension was probably my own and Phoebe's. Shadow looked weary as he realized that Sableye was probably getting ready to attack again. The diamond eyes of his opponent were glittering in the joy that he was more likely than not going to beat Shadow. I was already planning my next moves though. "Shadow, use your crunch attack!" I called in one last hope. "Dodge it!" Phoebe cried happily and the Sableye, still in nearly full health, darted away from my Absol. "Now use a Shadow Punch!" commanded my gleeful enemy. I watched in sorrow as Shadow fell to the ground. +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* "Ooh, this isn't going that well," agonized Sam. "That Sableye is tough." "And besides, that little Jenifer girl sucks," said the boy next to them with a grin. Sam looked over at him, about to tell the boy off, when he recognized him. "Bobby, how're you doing?" Sam questioned. "Pretty well," Jenn's brother responded. "Isn't Jenny's opponent that Phoebe girl who tried to steal her boyfriend in 6th grade?" Sam sighed. "Yes, the very same. If Jenn loses-" "We'll never hear the end of it, and Jenn will lock herself in her room in sobs for a month," Bobby finished. "I'm confident in her talent, though." "She better win," grumbled Sam as he turned back to the match. +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* "This sucks," I could hear Phoebe mumble as she looked worriedly at Sableye. "Well, I think YOU just got a taste of your own medicine," I smirked. "How? I didn't use earthquake on you with a high-levelled Golem repeatedly." "Your Dusclops used earthquake on my Absol, so my Golem will use earthquake on your Sableye," I told her logically. Phoebe sighed. "Sableye, use Shadow Punch on that Golem!" she said exasperatedly. "Kaiser, try to dodge it!" I called, but las, it was no use. The wispy fist of the Sableye pounded down on my Golem's back and Kaiser called out in pain. "Use your magnitude attack, Kaiser!" I commanded with a broad smile. At a close range, the powerful ground attack threw Sableye off it's feet. It didn't get back up. +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* "Boo!" called the man in front of them, and Sam jumped to his feet to reprimand the man. But Nathan got there first. "That's my girlfriend fighting, you asshole!" he yelled and Vicky's eyebrow raised. "I thought you two were fighting," she said curiously. "That's doesn't mean that I don't still love her, you know," Nathan said with a grin. "And it doesn't mean that I'm not going to defend her." "That's nice and all," said the bald man who was in his late thirties or early forties. "But this girl sucks ass anyways." "Don't do anything that's going to get you kicked out," warned Sam, who was paying attention to the brewing fight. "Why not? Those are the things that make life fun!" Taylor said with a eager smile playing upon his face. "Exactly," said Nathan with a grin as he took out the piece of Orbit chewing gun from his mouth and inched carefully towards the back of the man's muscle shirt. +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* "This sucks butt," I groaned as Banette smirked wickedly at Kaiser. who was laying on his back on the pebbled floor. "Try to use a psychic attack, Banette!" called a cheerful Phoebe. "Damn it, no! Dodge it!" I screamed, completely forgetting that I was being taped by television cameras, and also that my parents were in the audience. It was too late for the little Golem though. I darted over to him. "You did great! You deserve a nice rest, Kaiser." I recalled the Golem and tried to think of who to bring out next. My hand travelled over Muffin's Pokeball. No, type disadvantage. Banette would kick his ass. I felt over Kaiser's and Shadow's Pokeballs also, the two were resting peacefully. My choices were narrowed down to Gully, Torch and Sparkle. Confidently, I enlarged one of the Pokeballs, and the large shape of the Blaziken was revealed. "Let's rock and roll, Torch!" I cheered. "Let's try to blaze kick!" "No, dodge it!" screamed Phoebe. Oh it was so long, so damned close, but the outcome of the match was still undetermined. Both Pokemon were nearly in full health (Kaiser had managed to use magnitude once before getting knocked out). Banette was fast, but Torch was faster and Banette was unable to dodge the blaze. "Use your psychic attack!" yelled Phoebe, determined to use Torch's mix of fire and fighting against me. "Dodge it!" I cried, but Torch was unable to. She was now severely weaked and it was time to use my last resort. "Overheat attack!" I said weakly as I watched the battlefield become a smoky inferno. +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* "Gah, it's really hot!" complained Zach, but Sam, Bobby, Nathan, Taylor and Vicky were intently watching the match. "This is it," muttered Taylor as their eyes were widened as the smoke began to thin out. "I hope this isn't it for Torch," Vicky said worriedly. Vicky bit her lip. "What if Jenn loses?" Sam answered that quickly. "Then we run off to a store to buy earplugs and tissues and a raft." +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* "This is amazing!" called the announcer. "Jenifer's Blaziken is still standing, while Phoebe's Banette is knocked out. Jenifer Frost is the winner!" I felt faint as I clicked off in my high heels to meet up with my friends. "That was so nerve-wracking," I complained to Vicky. "We were all up here freaking out," she informed me. It was then that I realized that somebody had joined us in the group. "Bobby, when did you get here?" I exclaimed. "Right before your battle. Sorry that I couldn't make it to your battle yesterday, I just got in from Johto this morning and I rushed down here. Brooke is getting in from Vermillion City tonight and she'll be here to watch your next battle." "I thought she quit travelling," I remarked. "She did," my brother replied. "But she has an internshoip working in the radio tower in Lavender Town. The new one that they just built." "Oh." "And also, all of your friends from the Academy told me to tell you hi. Alexis also told me to tell you that school doesn't end for them until the day of your fourth battle, and that her, Brittani, Sierra, Amanda and Cole will be up here for your last battle." "I thought Alexis and Sierra were in Kanto." "They said it sucked, so they went back to school. Now, you need to rest so that you can be on alert for your battle tomorrow," Bobby scolded. "No way!" I replied. "It's only about four, and I woke up at one-thirty." Bobby shook his head and sighed disapprovingly. "Jenifer Nichole, what are we ever going to do with you?" he said in a perfect imitation of our mom. "Robert Frost!" she yelled from about ten feet away. "Coming, mother!" he said with wide eyes. I chuckled and watched him run away. "Well, one thing's for sure... You're not going to send me on a raft to Johto..."
