Chapter 46: Just a Normal Day "I hate you!" Nathan screamed. "You're a pretentious bitch!" "Well, you can't hate me nearly as much as I hate you," I yelled back. "You're an uptight ass!" "I wish I had never met you!" Nathan argued back and slowly, I felt myself drift back into consciousness. It had all been a dream, even though it had felt so real. I walked out into the living room of the cabin and Zach and Vicky blinked. "Jenn, we thought you were gone already!" Vicky exclaimed. "Why, what time is it?" I yawned, still drowsy. "2:35," Zach answered. "Did you just wake up?" With a notice of the time, I seemed to feel a lot more awake. "Oh shit! I have to leave in ten minutes! My battle is at three!" I rushed back into my room, noticing that there had already been an outfit laid out of me. Though it was hard, I held in my protests. Another skirt and tank top, with yet another pair of high heels. My mother and Vicky needed to stop reading those damned fashion magazines. Reluctantly, I pulled it on and by the time I was ready, it was time to leave. I warily hobbled to the arena, ready to battle. "These shoes hurt," I muttered as I walked in through the entrance. An old guy was already there and I guessed him to be my opponent. I guessed right. "Welcome back to another day of battles in the Hoenn League! As you have seen in the earlier battles, Drake is so far unbeatable! Will Jenifer frost be able to break his winning streak and be the only Hoenn League challenger to battle the champion?" They sounded like bad TV commercials. "We will find out today in our 3 o'clock match! This battle will be three-on-three and no items will be used. Let the battle begin!" Apparently, even though I had been allowed to use a fourth Pokemon in my battle with Glacia, that privilege had been revoked in this battle. Drake thought a moment before enlarging a Pokeball. A large dragon looking thing was out. I bit my lip. No ice type. It was flying... That must mean it was part flying! And Gully knows ice beam... Oh my God, this wasn't good. Reluctantly, I called out Sparkle. "Okay, bud, use your thunder attack!" +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* It was Bobby who was using the binoculars at the time. "Why in the hell is she using an electric type against a FLYGON?" Bobby asked incredulously. "Because it's flying, and she thinks that the electric type moves will bring out the flying weakness," Taylor replied. "That WOULD be a very smart plan," Zach commented. "If Flygon wasn't part ground." "I hope she knows what she's doing," Nathan said tensely, and it was about that time when I realized what was happening. +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* "Earthquake?!" I screamed as Sparkle was knocked abruptly off her feet. "How can a flying type use EARTHQUAKE?!" "It can when it's part ground," Drake said simply and I must've looked like a traffic light: red with embarrassment to green with nausea, all in the matter of a few minutes. "Ugh," I complained. Sparkle was now extremely weak. I hadn't meant to use a type disadvantage... And now because I was so stupid, it could cost me the match. I closed my eyes and thought, and I thought hard, which is something I have been able to say very few times in my fourteen years. Ground, eh? I'll show you ground... "Let's go, Gully!" I called out, releasing the beloved Pelipper I had raised since the very beginning of my journey. "Use your ice beam!" My conclusion was a logical one: both ground types and flying types were weak against ice. Sayonara, sucker. "Dodge it!" Drake cried and I felt unbelievably frustrated. "Damn it!" I cursed out loud. "Use it again!" I crossed my fingers and bit my lip. I always thought Gully had GOOD accuracy... Oh my God, I was going to lose, I was going to... "Flygon!" exclaimed Drake and as he inspected the flying type more closer, he realized it was knocked it. It had worked! I couldn't believe it! I still had a chance! Drake recalled the large Pokemon with a scowl on his face. "Let's go, Altaria!" Memories came rushing back to me, for some strange reason. All I could suddenly think about was my fight with Nathan at the Weather Institute. This time, Nathan would not barge in with a Sealeo to do my work for me. It was my time to shine. "Use your hyper beam, Altaria!" Drake commanded and the fluffy flying type charged up for the powerful attack. "Fly up to avoid it!" I yelled. Only the thing was, Gully couldn't fly that fast and was blown back by the powerful beam before it could get the chance to fly upwards. Gully hadn't been knocked out, but was pretty close to that status. Altaria couldn't attack for the next turn, it was a side-effect of using such a powerful attack. That was probably a good thing to. VERY good. +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* "She's never battled an Altaria before, has she?" questioned Bobby worriedly, handing the binoculars to Nathan. Nathan grimaced. "No, the one time that she was getting ready to, I burst in and fainted it before she could attack. If I had known that she would have to battle one now, I wouldn't have even dreamed about doing it." "Do you think she can win?" Bobby asked, glancing at the battlefield, where Gully had just successfully hit Altaria with an ice beam. "I have no doubts," Nathan lied, as Altaria recoiled with a dragonbreath attack. +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Gully had been incinerated. Okay, well, maybe that was a bit too strong of a word, but at any rate, it's feathers were tinged with ash and soot and it was burned badly. It was also knocked out, due to the dragon type attack that had been bestowed on it moments before. This was NOT good. Was it possible that I would lose this battle, and the League? I glanced up at the stands, where Nathan was looking worriedly and passing the binoculars back to my brother. Fighting or not, he was my boyfriend. And he HAD stuck by me throughout this whole journey. I had to win it. For him. He just couldn't know it was for him. With a broad grin, I recalled Gully and instantly grabbed a Pokeball. This was the guy who would do it. I had 100% confidence in him. "Come on out, Muffin!" I called and suddenly, I heard a negative yell from the stands. It was from the group's direction. I glanced up, only to find it was the man in front of them. He was turned around though, and from what I could see, he was arguing with Nathan. For a fighting couple, we were oddly lovey-dovey. "Okay, let's try a metronome attack!" I suggested. The results weren't bad, nor good: A thunderbolt attack. At any rate, it was enough to knock out Altaria. +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* "Listen you little asshole, you better shut up about my girlfriend!" Nathan threatened with a scowl on his face. It was the same man as it had been a few days before. "And what are you going to do if I don't? Stick gum done my shirt again?" he smirked. "I'll do a lot worse than that," he said darkly. "Nothing can be worse than having to watch your slutty girlfriend battle in high heels and a miniskirt. I have to hand it to you, she's hot, even though she's a crappy ass trainer. Wouldn't mind getting her in-" In his rage, Nathan had picked up his soft drink and with that remark, he dumped it over the guy's head. He was a bright red color, and none of the group had ever seen him so mad. "If you ever say anything like that about Jenn again, I will-" "Don't even say anything," Vicky warned. "You'll get yourself into trouble." With a few murmurs and grunts, the guy stood up from his seat, glaring daggers at Nathan as he left to get a change of clothes. +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* I was beginning to hate this battle. I really was. I was on my last Pokemon, so was he, and it was so damn unpredictable. Neither one of us were at a type advantage. Damn. "Shelgon, use your dragonbreath attack!" Drake said yet again and I sighed. "Muffin, teleport to dodge it and then use a future sight!" I shot back. And so that is what Muffin did. It hardly had time to use the future sight attack before another blast of fire was aimed at it. Instinctly, it teleported away, and that is what the next ten minutes consisted of: Shelgon trying to hit Muffin and Muffin teleporting away. But shortly after yet another dragonbreath had been used, Shelgon began to glow a lucid white color and wince in pain. So the future sight was working! I bit my lip and corssed my fingers again. I hoped this worked. It didn't. Well, actually, it DID do a considerate amount of damage to Shelgon but it didn't faint it, like I had wanted it to. While it was weak, and getting over the attack, I had a chance. It could have been my only chance. "Quick, while it's recovering, use a psychic attack, Muffin!" I yelled frantically. Muffin took aim. Muffin focused. And then a flurry of energy burst out and hit Shelgon hard. +*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* "Is it moving?" Taylor asked Nathan worriedly. Nathan grabbed the binoculars from Zach and looked through them eagerly. "No! It's fainted!" "Then this means-" Vicky started. "That Jenn won!" Sam exclaimed. "And that tomorrow she'll be battling to become the Hoenn League champion! Tomorrow is going to change everything!" He had no idea.
