Seph Drano enjoyed his life. Having journeyed around the world with his friends Rob and Trina he now works as a gym leader in the same region as his aforementioned friend Rob. As leader of Levy City Gym on Coloss Island he enjoyed the same perks that any other leader has. He doesn’t even battle most of the challengers; he makes his servants/apprentices weed out the weaker ones. He was runner-up in the 20th and 21st annual Sanwedge Islands Great Challenge and the only trainer in the islands that can really stand up to him is the champion, his best friend Rob. However after what most would consider a stellar career so-far, Seph is still utterly in his brother’s shadow. His brother being none other than Lance of the Elite Four. In all aspects Seph seems like the complete opposite of Rob when it comes to ideals about training. While Rob refuses to dress like a ninny, Seph has embraced and odd wardrobe including a vest and a cape. Rob tries to go for more speed while Seph has a much more power oriented strategy. Finally while Rob tries to train at every chance he can, Seph will only battle those he sees “fit” to fight him, thus ending up with Seph always falling behind his friend. Even their physical appearance is different, with Seph having red hair compared to Rob’s brown and Seph having fairer skin. They do however have similar senses of humor and massive amounts of sarcasm so they were able to become great friends. Today as Seph gets up from his dreamless slumber he decides that he’s going to keep his daily routine of making fun of challengers and yelling at apprentices intact. After all, there’s no point in messing with a routine that has helped him completely forget the fact that his brother is the greatest trainer in the world. Getting out of bed Seph looks out his window and sees something that scares, no terrifies him; his brother Lance walking towards the gyms front door. Cursing under his breath he gets his normal garb on and hurries down stairs to greet the person that he dreads and looks up to at the same time. Opening the door he is face to face with the man that single handedly drove him to become a great trainer. “Sup,” Seph says as nonchalantly as he possibly can. Lance looks at his brother with a neutral face for as long as he can and then erupts into a huge grin. “SEPHY BOY!” he shouts as he grabs Seph and gets him into the biggest bear hug ever. “Ok, ok, it’s great to see you too,” Seph mutters with the little air that got through the hug. “How long has it been? I’d say about a year now” “Yeah, this has been a good year” “Seph, don’t act like you didn’t miss me” In truth, deep down Seph did miss him but he didn’t want to admit that so he replied, “Why would I miss you?” instead. To this Lance only smiled and said, “All I heard was ‘Lance you’re the best brother ever’.” Letting him in, Seph showed Lance his new arena, now complete with stands so fans could come and watch (for an entrance fee of course). He showed him his apartment on the second floor of the gym, and the pool on the outside that was home to his seadra, Rita and his dragonair, Bree, who were currently lounging on the surface of the water. “So how long are you going to stay?” Seph asked when they finally finished with catching up with each other (Dranos for some reason loved to talk). “Not long, and you’re coming with me.” “Come again?” Seph felt completely bewildered at that comment. “You and your friend Rob have been invited to a tournament in Mount Silver and so the league asked me to come down and get you.” “How come I haven’t received any letter or call about it?” “I got the letter right here,” Lance said matter-of-factly while pulling out a small envelope gilded in a silver leaf. Taking the letter Seph tore it open and read the invitation, “You are hereby invited to the 1st annual International League Tournament to be held in Mount Silver Stadium on October 20th through the 30th.” Was in large print, and below it in smaller print read, “You can bring one guest as well as any personal affects that you wish to have.” Finally on the bottom were all of the individual League Commissioners’ signatures. “So?” Lance asked after Seph was done reading. “So, I guess I should go if I was invited,” “Atta boy!” Lance shouted as he hit Seph on the back with that painful slap that older brothers have perfected over the centuries. Looking at his PokeGear Seph saw that it was 2:00 P.M. and Rob must be done with his class. He called him up and waited for his friend to pick up his own Gear. “Hello?” Rob asked over the line. “Rob, get your stuff we’re leaving with my brother.” “Wait, what are you talking about?” “I know you got the letter about the tournament, now get packed and get over here, you have 2 hours.” “I don’t know…” “Komodo is freaking huge man; he won’t have a problem carrying you and your stuff.” “No I mean I can’t leave the gym.” “C’mon Rob do you even get challengers?” “Yeah,” “Any that don’t suck?” “………” “Exactly, look it says we can take a guest, I’ll call up Trina and we can all go.” Seph knew that Rob was faltering, “It’ll be like old times, and plus I know that you’ve had a crush on her for like, 6 years now.” “Shut the hell up Seph.” “See you in two hours!” “Whatever…” Closing his Gear Seph smiled while thinking about Rob and Trina. If there were ever two people who were more awkward around the opposite sex he hadn’t met them. He felt that the two would end up with each other simply because they wouldn’t be able to create a relationship with anyone else. Getting Trina to go would be easy. Anything that Rob is competing in she’ll go to, it was almost funny, the two worshipped each other and they didn’t even realize it. Seph looked at his brother and gave him a thumbs up, 3 hours from now he’ll be on a boat to Johto with his two best friends and going to compete in a whole new challenge. He was smiling thinking about old times when his brother came around and slapped him on the head. “What was that for?!” Seph yelled furiously. “I just missed you brother!” Lance showed his love for his brother in a different way than what is thought to be normal. Frowning on the outside but still grinning on the inside Seph began to gather up his stuff for the upcoming journey….. .
