Brian saw the lab in Pallet Town. He walked towards it, happy to be finally getting his first pokemon. He had wanted to be a pokemon trainer all his life. And now he could finally live out his dream.

He walked into the lab. “Hello?” he asked, looking around.

“Ah! I assume you’re here for you’re first pokemon?” Prof. Oak said, coming down the stairs. “What pokemon would you like?”

“I’d like a Charmander, please,” Brian said, hoping he could have the fire lizard as his first pokemon. He had always loved dragon pokemon, and Charmander happened to be as close as you could get for a dragon starter.

“We just happen to have a few Charmander left. You’re lucky; they’re pretty popular,” Prof. Oak said, smiling and going into the back. He came back with a pokeball and a pack containing several essentials for a starter trainer.

“Thank you so much!” Brian said, taking the pokeball. He let out the Charmander. Charmander looked at his new trainer, not entirely overjoyed, but thinking Brian could be worse. He could’ve been one of those annoying girl trainers who constantly dressed up their pokemon. Charmander had dreaded having one of those people as a trainer. ‘So, you’re my new trainer?’ Charmander asks, looking Brian in the face.

“Yeah, I guess that’s how it is,” Brian said, smiling.

‘Then let’s get going,’ Charmander said.

“Right,” Brian said, walking out of the lab, Charmander at his side.

‘I’m bored…’ Charmander said, walking next to Brian.

“Same here,” Brian said, “when are we going to find someone?”

‘What’s that over there?’ Charmander asked, pointing up the road towards a lump on the ground.

“I think that’s a pokemon,” Brian said, worried. He started running towards the lump, which was indeed a pokemon. It was a Bagon! “What’s a Bagon doing all the way here in Kanto?” Brian asked himself. The pokemon stirred slightly, though it appeared weak and unconscious. “Better get this guy to a pokemon center,” he added, picking up the pokemon and walking down the road towards where he thought a pokemon center may be.

“Ok, maybe there isn’t a pokemon center this way,” Brian said after walking down the path for a long time.

‘How’s Bagon doing?’Charmander asked, concerned.

“She’s doing ok, I hope,” Brian said, looking down at the little dragon pokemon.

‘What’s that over there?’ Charmander said, pointing off in the distance.

“It looks like a pokemon center. At least, I hope it is,” Brian said, squinting off in the direction Charmander pointed. He started to run towards it. After he got closer, he saw it was indeed a pokemon center, as he had hoped. He ran inside.

Once inside, Brian ran towards the Nurse Joy. “Is there anything I can help you with?” she asked, then noticing Bagon. “What have you done to that pokemon???” she yelled, angry at Brian.

“I swear, I didn’t do this. She was like this when I found her,” Brian said, panting.

“You better be telling the truth. If you’re lying, I’m calling the police,” Nurse Joy said, walking into the back with Bagon.

Brian sat down, hoping Bagon would be ok.

Nurse Joy walked out of the ER room. “That Bagon’s in serious condition. But, I think she’ll be fine by the morning. You can spend the night here if you wanted,” she said to Brian.

Thank you so much,” Brian said, tired. He lay down on the couch he had been sitting on, and fell into a deep sleep.

During one of Brian’s dreams, he felt a strange nudging. He paid it no heed, though, and continued dreaming. But, the nudging continued, with phrases like “Wake up!” added in. He still didn’t pay attention, though, until he started to feel his skin start to burn. Then he woke up.

“What was that for?” Brian asked.

‘Well, you weren’t getting up, so I used an Ember on you,’ Charmander said, grinning. Nurse Joy nodded.

“Bagon’s regained consciousness,” Joy said, which made Brian bolt up.

“Can I go see her?” Brian asked, not waiting for an answer before running into the recovery room.

Bagon looked at the strange person walking towards her. ‘Who are you?’ she asked, looking at the person.

“I’m Brian,” the person, apparently called Brian, said. Humans were strange. Why did they have to give each other names? None of them looked similar to others. Even pokemon, who, within species, look similar, didn’t need names. But, humans were like that.

‘Are you the person who helped me?’ Bagon asked, getting a better look at Brian.

“Yeah,” Brian said.

‘Thank you,’ Bagon said.

“By the way, if you don’t mind me asking, how did you get all the way out here?” Brian asked.

‘I just remember being in the cave I had grown up in one minute, seeing a strange person, then nothing before this,’ Bagon said, a confused look on her face.

“You think you’re going to be ok?” Brian asked.

‘Probably,’ Bagon said.

“Well, I’m going to leave you here. Nurse Joy’s going to take care of you,” Brian said.

‘No,’ Bagon said, getting up.

“What do you mean, ‘No’?” Brian asked, confused.

‘You saved my life. I’m going to repay the favor, eventually,’ Bagon said.

“Are you sure this is a good idea? Maybe you should stay here for a while and heal some more,” Brian suggested.

‘No, I’m sure. I’m going with you,’ Bagon said, jumping off the bed.

“Well, if you say so,” Brian said, pulling out a pokeball.

‘What’s that for?’ Bagon asked, staring at the orb.

“It’s just to prove that you’re traveling with me and I didn’t steal you,” Brian said, throwing the ball at Bagon. Bagon was caught, and Brian let her back out.

‘So, what do we do now?’ Bagon asked her new friend.

“I guess we leave,” Brian said, as they walked out of the recovery room.

“I assume you’re taking the Bagon with you?” Nurse Joy asked as Brian and Bagon walked out of the recovery room.

Brian nodded, and then noticed Charmander asleep on the couch. Brian got an evil grin on his face. He sneaked up slowly on Charmander, before grabbing Charmander to wake him up.

Brian got what he wished for, and more. Charmander was startled by Brian, and responded by using an Ember on his ‘attacker’. Everyone laughed at Brian’s burnt face afterwards.
