The Legend of the Mergers
Chapter 2: All’s well that ends well… right?
Disclaimer: You know the drill, blah blah blah, I don’t own pokemon, I sure as hell wished I did, the usual.
A/N: I forgot to mention this earlier. In case you didn’t figure this out from Chapter 1, the Pokedex Brian got can translate pokemon speech.
Also:
“” = Human speech.
Italics means either thoughts.
‘Italics with single quotation marks’ means Pokemon speech.
Now, on with the story!

‘I’m bored…’ complained Charmander.
“I know, Charmander. That’s the 50th time you’ve said it today,” Brian said, starting to lose his patience.
‘I swear, if he says that one more time…’ Bagon said.
‘Yeah? What are you going to do?’ Charmander asked Bagon.
‘This,’ Bagon said, tackling the salamander pokemon. Charmander responded with an Ember. Brian tried to step in to stop the fighting.

One scorched Brian later….

Bagon and Charmander glared at each other from opposite sides of Brian. ‘Nice job,’ Bagon said to Charmander.
‘What are you talking about? You started it,’ Charmander said.
‘Well, if you hadn’t been complaining…’
‘Well, if there had been something to do…’
“Do you two want to go back into your Pokeball?” Brian asked the two, whom instantly stopped quarreling, just in time to see a man step out of the brush.
“What are you looking for?” Brian asked, irritated.
“You,” the man said, pointing at Brian.
“Why do you want me?” Brian asked, defensive.
“That’s for me to know, and you not to,” the man said.
“Well, how about a battle to decide if I go or not?” Brian suggested.
“Fine,” the man said, interested by this offer. “A double battle, then?”
“Fine by me,” Brian said, getting ready to start.

“Go, Wingull and Mudkip!” the man said, releasing the two water-types.
“Bagon, Charmander,” Brian said, hoping the two would be able to work together.
“Start off this battle with a waterspout!” the man said. Wingull created a gust with his wings while Mudkip sprayed water into it, forming a water tornado heading towards Brian’s two pokemon.
‘I’ve got this one,’ both pokemon said at once, simultaneously springing into action. Bagon tried the not so classic ‘Head-straight-into-the-tornado’ strategy, being thrown back after a few moments. Charmander used an Ember, hoping to evaporate the water. But, he was unsuccessful, and barely got out of the tornado’s way in time.
“Not winning that easily, kid,” the man said, smirking. His two pokemon smiled viscously, both attacking Brian’s pokeball.
“Charmander, scratch Mudkip!” Brian said as Charmander rushed towards Mudkip. Mudkip got hit and was slightly thrown backwards, but didn’t seem any worse for wear.
“Water gun!” the man commanded, as both his pokemon obeyed, shooting water at Charmander.
This is it, I guess, Charmander thought as the water rushed towards him.
But, the water never hit. Charmander opened his eyes. He saw Bagon in front of him, taking the blow head- on.
Bagon was taking a lot of damage from the attack, even counting her natural strength against water attacks. When the Wingull and Mudkip finally stopped, she looked pretty hurt.
Charmander looked from Bagon to the two water types, confused. After a few moments, his eyes glowed deep red. He glared at the two pokemon, Then, his claws caught on fire. He ran towards the two pokemon, claws flaming. He slashed them both, and, even though they were water types, both looked like they had taken big hits.
‘You think you can beat us that easily?’ Wingull asked, dazed. Charmander merely used an Ember attack on them.
‘I’ll take that as a yes’ Mudkip said, before both of them unconscious.
“How’d you beat them with that fire type of yours?” the man asked, returning his pokemon.
“No clue,” Brian said, returning his pokemon. “So, who sent you?”
“That wasn’t part of our deal,” the man said, smirking and disappearing.
“Weird,” Brian said, running to get to a pokemon center.

Archie picked up the phone. “This had better be good news, John,” he said.
“Uh, well, he beat me,” the man Brian battled, apparently name John, said.
“He WHAT?” Archie asked, furious.
“Well, his Charmander, his eyes glowed red, and he got really powerful,” John explained, nervous.
“Ah…” Archie said. “So I suppose the child is his descendant.”

Brian entered the pokemon center. “Would you please heal my pokemon?” he asked the Nurse Joy.
“Why sure I’d be glad to- wait a minute, my cousin told me about someone matching your description. What happened to your pokemon?” Joy asked, suspicious.
“Long story. Got into a battle,” Brian said, panting from all the running.
“Fine,” Joy said, taking the pokeballs. “They should be fine. I recommend you get some rest,” she added. Brian just nodded and lay down on the couch, slipping into a deep slumber.
