Bad Moon Rising

Chapter 2

By Windra

"This is...impossible..."

"What's wrong?"

What happened to me...?

"His wounds...they're already healing..."

"Isn't dat what's supposed ta happen?"

I was attacked by...a dog...but did I pass out?

"It normally takes a few weeks to fully heal...but his cuts are already sealing up, and he was only attacked about a half hour ago..."

I feel so strange...

"...Ungh..."

"JAMES!!"

James opened his eyes to meet Jessie's sapphire eyes. She was standing by his head, looking down at him with concern and teary eyes.

She was upset...over me...?

"...Hey...," he moaned, slowly beginning to sit up, wincing as pain shot throughout his body.

Meowth jumped on top of the bed and crawled up to the male, grinning widely. "Jimmy! Ya feelin' okay?"

James simply closed his eyes for a minute, waiting for the pain to subside, then opened them up to look at the cat.

"Kinda...I feel like I've been hit by a truck..."

James began to stand up, but felt pain overwhelm him. He stumbled backwards, but was caught by Jessie, who grabbed onto his shirt and pulled him back onto his feet. The boy smiled and blushed, rubbing the back of his head.

"Thanks...," he whispered, and Jessie let go, smiling.

"We're friends, and we're here to help each other," she said, blushing deeply.

Across the room, somebody cleared his throat, and James looked over to see Mondo standing by the wall, crossing his arms and grinning, his brown ear-length hair brushed back as his brown eyes looked at the two.

"...Mondo?" James asked, cocking his head.

Mondo nodded. "Yeah, I was the one who helped you out."

"Thank you..."

Mondo grinned once again. "Don't worry about it!"

James blinked, then looked at himself, and nearly collapsed in shock. His uniform was splattered with blood and torn into pieces in some places. And his wounds...as he heard Mondo say, they were already sealed up.

Shaking his head, he turned towards the door of the room of the small cabin they were in. "I'd better change..."

Jessie walked up to him and nodded. "Yeah, I guess so..."

James smiled and walked up to the door, turning the doorknob and beginning to open it.

"James...?"

He turned around to see why Jessie had said his name, and he saw her looking down at the ground.

"Jess...?"

The female sighed, then shook her head. "Nothing...it's nothing..."

James doubted that she meant that...but he felt that he shouldn't bother her.

Jess...

Sighing, he walked through the door.

**********

The blue-haired male threw on a clean pair of jeans and a blue tee-shirt in his room, then went to wash off the blood in the bathroom. Sighing, he splashed some warm water on his face, then grabbed a small hand-towel to dry off. He looked in the mirror, and froze, then placed a hand on his scarred cheek.

There was white fur beginning to sprout from the cut.

What's going on?

There was a knock at the door, and James looked up.

"James?" Jessie's voice called.

"I'm here!" he called back.

"Hey, do you wanna eat?"

James grinned. He hadn't eaten for a few hours.

"Sure! I'll be right there!"

He grabbed a shaver and began to shave off the 'fur', still confused, but hunger taking over him.

Behind the door, Jessie gave a relieved sigh.

Her James was back to normal.

Or so she thought.
