Like I say life gets in the way. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ It was morning onboard the USS Enterprise. As Captain Jean-Luc Picard stepped from the turbolift he took in the quiet comfort of his ships bridge. He made his way to the seat in the center of the room. A strange looking man currently occupied it. He had very pale skin and golden eyes. He turned just as the captain spoke to him. "Good morning Data. Report." Captain Picard asked of his android officer. "Good morning to you, sir." Data began and vacated the chair, which Captain Picard took. "Ships status it normal. There was a slight power fluctuation in the starboard EPS taps in main engineering. I have logged the event and produced a report for Lieutenant Commander La Forge to look over this morning. I have also been monitoring a graviton field that has slowly been forming in cargo bay five. I have scheduled an engineering crew to monitor it." "Is that all Data?" Captain Picard asked quietly. "It is sir." Data replied. "I have filed all necessary reports to your ready room." "Thank you Data. Have a good rest." The captain replied and Data left knowing he was dismissed. Behind the captain the turbolift doors whooshed softly open and he looked to see Worf, Deanna Troi, and Commander Riker come onto the bridge. It was looking to be a very quiet day. 'But then when had the Enterprise ever had a quiet day' Captain Picard thought to himself. "Good morning Captain." Deanna said in her musical betazoid voice. "Did you enjoy the concert last night?" "Good morning Deanna. And yes I did. It was very well performed. But I still am particular to classical. No offence to you number one" Picard replied. "None taken captain." Commander Riker commented. "It was hastily put together. We all know it could have been a lot better." "I still do not see the need for such music when there is opera." Worf growled. "I'll have to show you the joys of the big band and swing music." Riker responded with a smile and Deanna chuckled. This only made Worf glower even more. It was a typical Klingon look. The morning progressed smoothly. Not much had happened, with the exception of the growing graviton field. It was getting large enough now that the monitoring crew had to evacuate the cargo bay and continue to monitor from engineering. This worried Picard greatly. Free forming graviton fields usually meant something bad was about to happen. "Intruder alert. Intruder alert." The computer said warningly as the red emergency lights flashed on and off and a klaxon blared signaling general quarters for the ship. "Worf?" The Captain asked knowing that his feelings about his ship were right "Confirmed sir." Worf reported. "I am showing five life signs, three human and two creatures. One of the human life signs is very weak as is one of the creatures." "Dr. Crusher to cargo bay five" Commander Riker ordered. "Worf assemble a security team, you're with me." As they boarded the turbolift Worf barked orders to unseen members of his security team. Then called out for cargo bay five and the lift closed on the two. "Well Deanna, there went our nice quiet morning." Captain Picard said knowing she picked up on his growing concern. She only nodded knowing he would talk more about it when he was ready. "I'm heading to cargo bay five. You have the bridge Deanna." "Aye Sir" She replied and took the captains chair after he had entered the turbolift. ~ ~ ~ ~ Misty woke to red lights and a blaring siren whooping in the room. She heard brock groan. "Oh man that hurt." He said "Brock, you okay?" She asked "Yeah misty. You?" He asked back "I'm okay." She replied. "Togepi?" "To ge priiiiii!" togepi screamed and climbed into misty's arms. It stopped crying almost immediately. "Ash, are you okay?" Misty asked but there was no response. "Ash?" She asked again but this time with panic in her voice. She looked about the cargo bay and found ash near some storage drums. "Oh god ash!" She yelled and rushed over to him. "Ash, please wake up!" She yelled at him while gently shaking him but he would not stir. At that moment the doors to the cargo bay opened. Worf and his security team rushed in. "Lights." Worf called and the cargo bay flooded with light. He saw Brock, misty and togepi around ash. He grunted his dislike and Commander Riker came in. Seeing the kids he turned to Worf. "I think we can excuse the security detail." Riker said smoothly. Worf grunted his dislike of the idea but turned to the security team said a few soft words and they left the cargo bay. A moment later Dr. Crusher and her team breezed into the cargo bay and immediately over to Brock and Misty. She spotted ash and flipped open her tricorder. Misty sat watching with tears blazing trails down her cheeks. "He'll be okay." Dr. Crusher said to her while continuing to scan ash. "We'll have him fixed up in no time." Misty nodded but watched her closely. "What is going on here?" Dr. Crusher said to no one in particular. "His cells are in a state of temporal flux, and he has been flooded with graviton energy. Matt get the cortical stimulator on him. Turn it off as soon as he starts to come around. Jim get me the grafter. He has a broken arm that needs to be mended." On her orders the team began to work on Ash. Dr. Crusher began to run the grafter over the break in ash's arm and a slight hum could be heard over the soft chirps of the stimulator on his forehead. Dr. Crusher finished with ash's arm long before the stimulator. She passed the scanner of the medical tricorder quickly over misty. "No broken bones, a couple of bruises starting and a couple of cuts we can mend up quick enough. But the same temporal flux and graviton energy." She said to misty. "Dr. Crusher." Jim said. "Take a look at these readings." She did and the readings for the temporal flux and graviton energy were present in brock as well. "Oh man what happened." They all heard ash say and they jumped. Dr. Crusher pressed a hypo spray against ash's neck and with a hiss ash began to wake up faster. "I just gave you a mild stimulant and pain reliever. You should be fine in a moment or two." Dr. Crusher said. "Thank you." Ash said as misty helped him sit up. Ash smiled broadly at her. Noticing her tear streaked face he reached up and softly wiped her cheeks dry. "Shh, it's okay misty." She smiled big then threw her arms around ash's neck and kissed him softly. He only smiled at her. Ash glanced around for a moment then a look of horror crossed his face. "Oh god. Pikachu?" Ash said in a panic "Where are you pikachu?" "Who is pikachu?" Dr. Crusher asked "He is one of my best friends." Ash said looking for his lost pokemon pal. "Here I show one more life sign very weak, under those crates." Dr. Crusher said. "How did you all get here?" Ash didn't listen as he dived in where she said, and saw pikachu there against the wall. Ash was too big for the space and could not fit in all the way to get him. "Ash I can get in there." Misty said urging ash back. She crawled in and was just able to reach pikachu's tail. "I have him ash." She said and wiggled out. Pikachu was in bad shape. "I hope the full restore will work on him." Misty said voicing her fears. "It has to." Ash replied strongly taking a small bottle from his belt. Dr. Crusher and the rest watched as ash sprayed the small rodent all over when he finished, ash sprayed the rest directly into pikachu's small mouth while misty held him close. Ash saw it first the smallest movement of pikachu's tail, then the tricorder responded in Dr. Crusher's hand showing pikachu getting stronger. Ash hurried and took pikachu away from misty and backed away from everyone. Just as ash knelt down there was a bright flash and a deafening sound of thunder rolling through the cargo bay. Ash knelt there the seams of his clothing smoldering slightly and his hair standing up on end from the electrical charge released form Pikachu. "Ash?" Misty asked stunned. "I'm okay Misty." Ash replied. "When pikachu comes out of a deep faint like that using a full restore he normally emits a very small flash. But I noticed the charge growing much bigger. It was almost like he was using a thunder attack as he went through what ever that light was and then knocked unconscious." "Like he never was able to get the attack off?" Misty asked. "Yeah and I didn't want you to take the blast. I can handle it much better than you since pikachu is always shocking me I've grown accustom to it and it doesn't hurt me anymore." Ash replied. "pikapi?" Pikachu asked softly. "Yeah I'm here pikachu. Will you go into your pokeball? You really need to rest pal." Ash said softly. "kachu." Pikachu agreed readily. "Pikachu return." Ash said gently after pulling a ball from his belt. A Light leapt from the ball and enveloped pikachu and he vanished into the ball. "Pikachu doesn't like his ball ash. He must really feel bad to agree so suddenly to want to rest in it." Brock said. Ash only nodded. Misty turned her attention from brock and ash to Commander Riker and Dr. Crusher. "And to answer your question we were pulled into a light. Brock was pulled in first, then pikachu, myself then misty. After that I woke up here a few minutes ago with you over me." Ash replied in kind. "We have answered your questions on how we got here, and have been nice enough to tend to ash. But you still haven't told us where we are." Misty said softly. "You said we were on a ship, but what kind?" Commander Riker looked at misty just as Data walked into the room. This diverted Rikers attention once again. "Ah Data. Have you reviewed the preliminary medical scans?" Riker asked. "I have commander." Data replied. "Initial bio-scans do not indicate any harmful pathogens. I have forwarded the information found on the temporal flux anomaly to Lt. Commander La Forge for further analysis. My initial findings are as of yet inconclusive." "Thank you Data." Riker said and turned his attention back to misty, brock and ash. "As you have heard you were pulled into a temporal flux. They are usually naturally occurring and don't happen very often." "But unfortunately we happen to run into more than our fair share of them." Said a stern looking balding gentleman as he came over to the group. "Captain." Riker said slightly surprised. "Misty, Ash, Brock this is Captain Picard." "It is a pleasure to meet you sir." Ash replied softly and extended his hand. Captain Picard was taken back for a moment then shook his hand warmly. "Thank you Ash." Captain Picard responded a bit uneasy. "Report, Number One." "Sir minor injuries only but they still need to go to sickbay before they are allowed into the ships general population." Dr. Crusher said. "Data and Geordi are beginning to look at the temporal flux that was experienced and as of now the initial findings are inconclusive. The kids were nice enough to cooperate with us and I was about to let them know where they were." Riker also replied. It became obvious to the three that Picard was the one in charge on this ship. "Very well. Carry on. Department heads meeting in four hours, lets see what we can do to get these kids home." Captain Picard ordered and left the cargo bay. "Anyway as I was saying, you were pulled into a temporal flux anomaly. How it came to be at you location and obviously different time and dimension, well what we need to do is to investigate that and every avenue open to us so we can get you home. Now as to where you are, you're aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. It isn't an ocean liner like you would be used to but it is a starship we are several thousand light years from earth. As to when it is stardate 57171.19. Data what is the calendar date?" Commander Riker said at length. "July 26, 2379" Data replied quickly. Their jaws dropped to the ground in shock and ash, misty and brock stared at each other in awe and disbelief. "You mean to tell us we are 377 years into the future." Ash said while stammering. "And judging by the temporal distortion effects showing up in your body's cell structure. Your in an entirely different dimension as well." Lt. La Forge responded to them as he came into the cargo bay. "But to be certain we need to analyze the readings and do a few more tests on you and your companions Ash." "I see." Ash replied while yawning. "Excuse me. We were pulled into that temporal, whatever it was, at night." "That's all right we understand" Dr. Crusher replied smiling. "We do need to take you all to sickbay and run some general tests before we can release you to the ships general population." "Tests for what?" Misty asked a little suspiciously. "Only precautionary." Dr. Crusher responded. "I need to make sure that you don't have anything that will infect our ships population. If you do I can get rid of it with our technologies and it won't hurt a bit. I can also get DNA scans of you and all your companions even your Pokemon." "Then can we get some sleep?" Brock asked "Yes. I'll have Data secure quarters for you and your friends." Cmdr. Riker said brightly and indicated that they should follow him and Dr. Crusher to sickbay. Ash, Brock, and Misty quickly gathered their belongings and followed Dr. Crusher out of the cargo bay with Cmdr. Riker following close behind. "Are the pokemon kept as pets?" "By some." Misty replied. "But to most they are companions and especially to trainers they are friends and team mates." "Thank you for that information it helps us to understand you better." Cmdr. Riker said softly and thoughtfully. As they walked through the ship ash misty and brock were amazed by the size and complexity of it. But knowing how far into the future they were, it didn't shock them. Once in sickbay Dr. crusher began to run tests on Ash misty and brock. She soon finished and began giving them all a round of hypo spray injections. "This will take care of the problems I found in you ash." She said and pressed the hypo spray to his arm and with a hiss it emptied its contents into him. "All of you kids are remarkably healthy. But I must admit I'm surprised that you haven't had all of your childhood inoculations." "Traveling like we do as trainers, getting all of our shots is the furthest thing from our minds." Ash said as Dr. Crusher turned her tricorder onto Pikachu. "I see." Dr. Crusher responded. "This is utterly amazing. So much energy stored in such a little creature. How is it possible?" "That has been the question of pokemon researchers for generations." Misty replied. "People like our friend Professor Oak has studied pokemon for years. They have still been unable to answer that question. But they get closer every year. But every year there are new pokemon that are discovered. That leads to more questions." "And yes Dr. Crusher pikachu has a lot of energy stored in it. It gets higher as he battles other pokemon and gains experience. Pokemon physiology allows him to grow learn new attack styles, and to evolve into a new shape and form with different attack styles and even greater power. Pikachu has more energy than anyone can even begin to understand." "What does that mean ash?" Misty asked puzzled. "It means pikachu is special and has many unusual abilities mist." Ash smiled at her. She only nodded. Dr. Crusher examined all of the pokemon in turn and took scans of them all for analysis. It was close to two hours later when Cmdr. Riker showed them to their quarters. During the walk he made small talk with the three. "You train these creatures to fight?" "We do, all of us." Brock replied as they turned the corner just down from sickbay. "But ash as been the only one of us daring enough to attempt the different versions of competition." Misty said. "We call them leagues. It involved gym challenges where the contender must battle the gym leader for a badge. If the contender wins it shows he is capable for that gym and league. There are three known leagues starting with the Pokemon League and advancing to the Orange Islands League then the Jhoto League. The Pokemon and Jhoto leagues have eight gyms each and the Orange Island league has only four gyms. Ash has taken on all of the gyms and have won their badges." Ash silently pulled out his badge wallet and showed it to Cmdr. Riker. He nodded duly impressed. "We have to travel to the different gyms." Ash said "It takes years of training and traveling to get them all. The ultimate goal of a Pokemon Trainer is to win against the Final four and then the reigning champion for the title of Pokemon Master. I've yet to get through the final four. It just means I have more to learn before getting the rank of master. We have been training for years now. And before you ask I'm 14 now, and have been traveling since I was 10." "Good way of looking at it." Cmdr. Riker stated as they stopped inform of a door on deck 10. "Well here are your quarters." He motioned them in as they stepped up to the door it slid open for them. Misty was the first to notice that there were only two beds in the room but she didn't say anything. "This is a standard quarters. In here you have the shower and restroom facilities. Next to that is the replicator. You can get food and drink from it. All you have to do is ask. Would you like a drink of water misty?" "Please, if you don't mind." She replied and was genuinely thirsty. Cmdr. Riker stepped up to the replicator. "Water four degrees Celsius" in the slot a glass with water shimmered into appearance. He handed it to misty who drank it slowly. It tasted great to her and she finished it off quickly. She looked oddly to Cmdr. Riker and he took the empty glass from her and placed it back into the replicator. It faded from sight. "The replicator can produce just about any type of meal you would like to have. It will also replicate food for your pokemon as long as you have a sample of what they eat." "That is good to know because we were starting to get low on our supplies." Brock replied. "Over here is a work station that has access to our library as well as a communications unit. Again all you have to do is ask the computer. And finally the bedroom there is two beds for you gentlemen. Misty your quarters are right next door and identical to these quarters." That troubled misty and she finally spoke. "I'm sorry to trouble you commander. But we are used to staying together. Is there anyway a third bed can be moved into here?" she asked politely. "Yes I can have a bunk bed type unit moved in instead of one of the beds. And that will allow you all to stay here." He replied kindly and tapped the insignia on his chest and it chirped. "Riker to Data." "Data here sir." Data replied through the communications network. "Data can you have stores bring up a bunk bed unit up to the guest quarters immediately. We have had a small request, and you can cancel the use of quarter's number 10253. All of our guests will be staying in number 10254." Riker responded. "Understood commander. I have just received the response form supplies and they are on their way. I have also cancelled out the second room request and set the room for use by the Andorian Ambassador" Data confirmed. "Thank you Data. Riker Out." Riker replied and closed the channel. "Any thing else we can do for you?" "No you have been kind enough. Thank you." Ash said. Cmdr Riker nodded and left them alone. "I don't know about the rest of you but I'm going to get some rest." Brock said and climbed into a bed. "I'm going to try and rest too." Ash said and stretched out on the couch. "I don't know if I can sleep though." Brock was already snoring softly from the bed. Misty sat next to ash in a chair. "I know I don't think I can sleep either." She replied. "I'm excited to bee here and to see this but I want to get home." "I know I do too." Ash replied and a chime at the door made him jump he went to see who it was and was shocked to see a young man standing there with a padd in his hand. "You requested a bunk bed set?" he asked "We did." Ash said and allowed him to enter the room. He quickly went into the bedroom and attached a small item to the empty bed. "Supplies. Ready to transport." He said after touching his comm. Badge. The bed was enveloped in a shimmering light and a soft whine came with it. The bed soon disappeared. A few seconds later the bunk bed began to take shape in the shimmering light. Within seconds the bunk bed was solid and the light faded away. "There you go. I hope its okay for you." The man said. "I'm sure it will be but how was that done?" Ash asked "Transporter. It breaks down matter into an energy matter stream and rematerializes it in another location. Like the food replicator but on a bigger scale." "I see thank you." Ash said and the man left the room. Ash went and stretched back out on the couch. There was a very long silence between ash and misty and it was ash that finally broke it. "Mist did you mean what you said earlier?" "What I said?" She replied "When we were being pulled into that thing." He replied. "You said that you loved me did you mean that? Misty blushed hard and her face turned a nice fire engine red. Ash noticed but he didn't say anything he just waited. Misty was thankful for that. She cleared her throat softly. "Yes ash I meant it." She replied with tears beginning to run down her cheeks. Ash smiled at her honesty. "Did you?" she asked. "I did, but didn't get to finish it. Misty I love you too. I have for a very long time. But I've been too stubborn to admit it." He said softly and lightly kissed her on the cheek then he settled himself in to the corner of the couch. "I have too ash." Misty said and looked for a long time at the sight of ash's hand holding hers lovingly. She raised her head and smiled to see ash sleeping softly. She shook her head and emitted a soft giggle, walked over to the bunk bed and pulled the blanket from it. She walked back over to ash and draped it over him. "Good night ash. Sleep well and I love you." She whispered and softly kissed him before stretching out just below him on the floor and falling peacefully asleep. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Well that's it for the first chapter.
