It took a moment Riker to realize that the command staff was not present. He chuckled to himself and motioned for Worf to follow him into the observation lounge. As they left the stations were once again remanned. "Sorry for the delay sir." Commander Riker offered as they took their seats. Captain Picard just waved it off. "Let's begin, shall we." He said flatly and the briefing came to a quick order. "I'm sure you're all aware that we had an intruder alarm sound shortly after shift change this morning. After security intervention it was found that some children and an assortment of unknown creatures were found in cargo bay 5." "That is correct sir." Commander Riker took over in the pause that followed. "There were two boys and a young lady found in the cargo bay. At our arrival one young man and the girl were coming too. The second young man was injured and unconscious. Dr. Crusher was able to tend to him and also found trace readings of a temporal flux in the cell makeup of all three children and the two creatures that were present. The temporal flux found in the kids matched the residual flux found in cargo bay 5." "Thank you Number One." Picard responded. "Doctor?" "For children that have rarely seen the inside of a hospital or doctors office they are remarkably healthy. When I first examined them, there was a lot of residual temporal flux in their cellular makeup. Ash was unfortunately unconscious when I found him but was easily revived as well as his broken arm mended. He was extremely concerned with a creature called Pikachu. I was able to locate it by life sign and Ash used a medicine on it and it revived in a very bright flash of light. Ash explained it as an electrical discharge. I examined Pikachu and found that it could produce and alarming amount of energy for a creature its size." She reported. "As for the temporal flux, I've encountered it only one other time before." "Where was that?" Geordi asked. "It was within Captain Picard." She replied while looking at the captain "In me?" Captain Picard asked in a very concerned yet slightly confused tone of voice. "Yes sir." Dr. Crusher responded back. "It was shortly before the destruction of the Enterprise-D. It was found during the time that Q was time shifting you." "I remember." Captain Picard said. "Enterprises from the past, present, and future had to close a temporal rift that threatened to destroy all life on earth." "So it's Q that we have to thank for this mess." Commander Riker stated flatly. "A mess it is Number One, but a mess we have to clean up." Captain Picard replied. "Geordi and I have been able to confirm all of Dr. Crushers findings." Data said. "We are going to perform further testing on the kids to attempt to return them to their own time and space." "Very well." Captain Picard replied happy with the plan. "Give them time to rest first. They were pulled through with a camp." He turned to Deanna. "Nothing sir. Nothing more than the minds of children. But they are very at ease with the situation." She replied to the captain's unvoiced question. "For any other child and especially those of the Enterprise there is always a fear of the unknown. But with Ash, Brock and Misty, there isn't that fear. Only acceptance of the situation and to make the best of it." "Hmmm. True pioneering spirits." Captain Picard said. "We will let them rest a while longer then do everything with in our power to get them home safely. Dismissed." Everyone got up to leave and as they exited to their duty stations Commander Riker noticed that Captain Picard had remained seated. He knew that his captain wanted to talk further and held back until the door hissed closed. "Sir?" Commander Riker asked, and waited patiently. Captain Picard sighed, then stood up from the table and walked over to the windows lining the observation lounge. The view of the warp field effect was always exhilarating to him but today it didn't hold that effect on him. He spoke slowly. "Why us? And, why now?" "I know what you mean sir." Commander Riker replied and joined his captain at the windows. "All I know, is when Q brings beings from another dimension its for a problem that is coming up. Even when he shifts us around, it's always been for the greater good." "Except for Farpoint." Captain Picard said then chuckled slightly. That brought a grin to Commander Riker's face. "Yes sir. Except for Farpoint." He echoed. "Schedule a meeting with the children. I want to hear what they have to say personally and to understand who they are." Captain Picard ordered. Commander Riker was taken aback. "Sir?" he questioned, and Picard knew what it meant. "It is a fear I'll have to face. One that needs to be dealt with, and what better way to deal with it, than with this situation and these children. Please schedule the meeting Number one." Captain Picard responded. "Let Deanna know of the meeting as well and request her presence." "Very well sir." Riker replied. "I have Lt. Morra slated to give them a tour of the ship and its facilities in a couple of hours. They did say it was nighttime in their dimension and they had just gone to bed. I'll set it for a couple hours before shift change sir. Will that be okay?" "That will be fine number one." Picard said as they left the observation lounge and returned to duty. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Misty woke with a start. As she looked around her she began to panic. Her eyes fell on ash and she calmed down once she saw him sleeping soundly. She looked around again and knew that it wasn't a dream and that they were truly in another place and time. She shook her head at the thoughts that were running rampant through her mind. She stood and stretched, then walked over to the food replicator. She was hungry but didn't know what she wanted. Misty thought for a few moments and spoke her order of a cheeseburger. She marveled as it appeared before her eyes and it smelled wonderful. She sat down and ash stirred at the smell of food. "Oh my head." He said and misty walked over to him. "Are you okay ash?" She asked concerned and kissed him gently. "I am now." Ash said quietly. "But my head still hurts a little. I wonder if Doctor Crusher can look at it again." "I'm sure she can ash." Misty smiled and laughed. "But you might need a little food. Come sit down with me and we can eat together." Ash smiled as he sat down at the table and misty sat a second cheeseburger in front of him. Ash inhaled the aromas and his mouth began to water. Ash and misty ate in silence. When they finished ash gathered up the dishes and placed them back in the replicator and they disappeared. "So what do we do now?" Ash asked while rubbing his head. "We wait and see if they can get us home." Brock replied as he stretched and sat up on the bed. "Didn't you two sleep?" He looked at the couch and saw the blanket there and laughed. "I guess you did." "Ash?" Misty asked. "I think we had better get my head looked at again." Ash said as he sunk into the chair by the couch. "But I don't know where the sickbay is at." "Sickbay is located on deck 8" the computer responded. "Lets go and use one of those turbolifts to get us there." Brock said and helped ash to his feet. At that moment there was a chime in their quarters. "What is that?" "I think it was the door Brock." Misty said. "Come in" the door, hissed open and a beautiful young woman walked in. she had blue skin and a line running down the center of her face but Brock didn't care. He was awe struck. "I'm Lt. Morra." She said politely. "I've been asked to give you a tour of the ship." She looked to Misty then to Brock and Ash. A look of concern crossed her face. "Is your friend okay?" she asked of misty. "No he needs a doctor. He hit his head when we came to this place. Dr. Crusher already helped him but his head still hurts." "Not a problem." Lt. Morra said. "Medical team to deck 10 room 254. Medical teams are on their way. Let me help you." She turned and helped Brock set ash down on the couch. Brock smiled to her and she returned it. "Thank you Lt. Morra" Misty said with relief in her voice. "You're welcome and please its just Morra. My first name is unpronounceable in earth standard." Brock looked puzzled. "I'm a Bolian. I come from another race and culture like Lt. Worf." Understanding dawned on brocks face and Morra thought it was cute. At that moment the door to their quarters hissed open again and admitted Dr. Crusher. She looked at ash and flipped open her tricorder and began to scan him. "The temporal flux inhibited the healing agents I gave you earlier ash." Dr. Crusher said softly. "The temporal flux is now gone. This will help with the pain and dizziness, and in a couple of hours the damage will be repaired. I suggest that you take it easy till then. Lieutenant why are you here?" "I came to give them a tour." Morra said quickly and professionally. "I see." Dr. Crusher nodded. "How do you feel ash?" "Much better." Ash replied smiling. "I wish our medical technology was this advanced." Dr. Crusher smiled. "I don't see any reason not to let you tour the ship. Please take it easy." She said and closed her tricorder. "I do ask that you get as much rest as is needed over the next couple of days." "I'll be sure he does." Misty said softly. Dr. Crusher nodded and walked out of their quarters. "Thank you Dr. Crusher." Ash Said as she left. "So I had come to give you all a tour of the ship. Morra said softly but enthusiastically. "Its not often that I get to give tours." "Why not?" Brock asked politely, which struck misty as odd since he normally went nuts around a pretty girl. "I tend to go…" She said then to herself "how did they put it, oh yeah, a little overboard." She finished smiling and the three smiled back. Brock broke the tension. "Lead on." He said. "Lets start at 10 forward. It's the main lounge of the Enterprise and where everyone goes to unwind after a shift." Morra said as they left their quarters and turned down the hall. "How big is this ship Morra?" ash questioned her. "The Enterprise has 24 Decks and is almost 700 Meters long. It will carry a little more than 1500 people that includes the crew and families." She replied. "That is almost 2300 feet long." Brock replied in awe. "Yes it is." Morra replied simply while grinning "And most of the 1500 people use this 10 forward we are going to?" Misty asked. "Yep and we are here." Morra beamed as they walked through the doors. "What a view." Brock said and stared out of the windows past Morra. The others looked too and gasped. It was an awesome sight to see. "What is going on with the stars?" Ash asked "That is the warp space effect." Morra explained. "In our time we can travel faster than light. To do that we slide into what is called subspace. What you are seeing is stars, space debris and particles going by as we go past them faster than light." "It is beautiful." Misty said in awe. "It sure is young lady," Said a voice from behind the bar. They all turned and Morra giggled. "I'm sorry Guinan. I didn't see you standing there." Morra apologized to the dark skinned woman. "Ash, Misty, Brock this is Guinan. She runs the place, and is sort of a councilor too." "If you three need anything don't hesitate to ask. I'll be glad to help if I can." Guinan said with a smile and went back to polishing her bar. "Ouch!" Ash exclaimed as he received a small jolt from one of his pokeballs. "Are you okay Ash?" Misty asked concerned. Morra and Guinan looked at ash with concern as well. "I'm fine." Ash said laughing. "But Pikachu wants out now." Taking the ball from his belt ash tossed it softly in the air. "Pikachu, I choose you." The ball opened and Pikachu materialized in front of them all. "Pikapi!" It said and jumped into ash's arms. "Ash may I see your friend there?" Guinan asked. "Sure." Ash replied and let Pikachu get onto the bar. Guinan studied the small pokemon for some time and a hint of understanding and yearning came across her face. It was like a distant memory coming back to life and she was enjoying it. So was Pikachu as she gently stroked him down his back. "Well let's continue on." Morra said as they headed from 10 forward. "Lets go buddy." Ash said and Pikachu took his place on Ash's shoulder Morra took them all over the ship. She let them see Main Engineering where they met up with Data and Geordi once again. All the while Ash was taking notes down so he could record it in his journal. When Data asked why he would not just make a voice recording in his journal, ash let him know it was full and needed to be downloaded. Ash let Data look at his pokedex with the promise he would have it back by this evening. So they moved on through the ship. The one place they could not go was the bridge. Morra explained that Captain Picard had a strict rule against kids being on the bridge. Ash, Misty and Brock all understood and let Morra know it was okay. They ended back on deck 10 near their quarters. "The last thing that Commander Riker wanted me to show you was the holodeck." Morra said. "He said that you needed a place to train and thought that this would help." "Sorry Morra. But what is a holodeck?" Brock asked puzzled. "It takes energy and converts it to a real time simulation of any environment you can program into the computer." She explained. "Do you know what type of place you need, so you can train?" "We all do." Brock replied. "Where can I tell the computer what to make?" "Right here." She said with a smile and activated the control panel next to the door. "Holodeck active." The computer responded smoothly. "Waiting instructions" "Just tell it what you need Brock." Morra said Brock slid up closer to Morra and they touched briefly and his breath caught in his throat. He cleared it and she smiled, but took a small step backwards anyway. Brock began to speak the design instructions to the computer. "Build a stadium. The seats need to be 25 feet above the playing field. The playing field must be rectangular in shape measuring 300 feet long by 200 feet wide. Place a line down the middle of the field allowing for two separate sections of 150 feet long by 200 feet wide. Place smaller rectangles, using the outside lines for base on each end measuring 10 feet long by 50 feet wide. On the centerline place a circle in the middle 5 feet in diameter. Then place a second circle around the first measuring 20 feet in diameter and a third measuring 50 feet in diameter. Place 6 benches along the outer perimeter of the field one on each end and the other 4 equal distances apart on each side." "Is that all?" Morra asked "Yep." Brock replied and Morra touched a couple of keys on the panel. "Working." The computer replied. "Program complete. You may enter when ready." Morra just nodded and let Brock lead the way. The door parted for him and there on this ship was a perfect replica of a pokemon stadium. Brock laughed and ran to one box as Ash ran for the other. "So what happens now?" Morra asked puzzled by the massive field. "Now ash can train his pokemon." Misty replied. "They are creatures form our world we have for companions and battle partners." Misty took the next few minutes to explain pokemon to Morra and a slow dawning started to appear on her face. "Just watch." Misty replied. "Ready Brock?" Ash asked and pulled a pokeball from his belt. Brock already released Onix from his ball and was waiting. "Ready Ash." Brock replied as he watched Ash turn his cap around backwards. Brock knew he meant business. "Keep your mouth closed during the battle Onix. Don't answer my commands. Just carry them out." "On." Onix replied then closed it mouth tightly. "Pikachu I choose you." Ash yelled and Pikachu ran out to the field. "Pika?" "Feel up for a little training?" Ash asked Pikachu looked around and saw Brock and Onix standing there. Little sparks emitted from his cheeks and he assumed a ready stance. "Pikachu!" Pikachu yelled and emitted a bright flash. He was ready. It dawned quickly onto Morra what was about to happen. These creatures had powers and they were going to use them against each other. "Onix, Rockslide." Brock ordered. "You know what to do Pikachu." Ash replied to his pokemon, but was quickly shocked as a rockslide attack headed for Pikachu. "Pikachu, agility to dodge and counter with a quick attack." Pikachu carried out its commands and barely evaded the rockslide. "Won't they get hurt?" Morra asked concerned. "Yes but we as trainers only let them fight until they faint." Misty replied. "Then we heal them up and let them rest. Wild Pokemon fight to the death. Watch and learn what our lives are like Morra." The battle began and raged on for more than an hour neither pokemon were showing signs of giving in but both were getting tired and Onix was getting frustrated. It finally opened its mouth and ash saw the opening. "Now Pikachu. Thunderbolt right to the mouth." Ash commanded forcefully. "Piii….Kaaa….Chuuuuu!" Pikachu screamed as he jumped and lightning flew from his body and hit Onix dead center of the mouth. "On……ix." Onix replied as it wobbled then fell over in a faint. The battle was over. Ash turned his cap back around and tossed Brock a full restore to use on Onix. "Thanks Ash." Brock said turning his attention to Onix. "Great job buddy. Return." Light emitted from Brocks pokeball enveloped Onix and the pokemon disappeared into it. Ash was finishing his congratulation to Pikachu and the little mouse Pokemon took his customary place on Ash's shoulder, when Misty and Morra made their way over to them. "This is perfect Morra." Ash said. "Can it be saved?" "It can." Morra said. "Computer save program as Ash 1 and end program." The computer beeped a few times then the stadium vanished. "Welcome to the true holodeck." They were standing in a blue/gray grid covered room. "This isn't much bigger than our quarters." Misty commented. "Its twice the size of your quarters." Morra said. "But it's not as impressive as your pokemon. They have a lot of energy in them don't they?" "They do, Morra." Ash replied. "I've seen pokemon with powers that are unheard of. One pokemon can even shift time." "But they battle hard and can come out of it with just a little medicine." Morra stated. "They have to rest too." Misty said as they walked slowly down the hallway. "And we see pokemon doctors in pokemon centers. We call them Nurse Joy. And the centers are located in every town" Brock added while smiling. Misty noticed a sparkle in Brocks eyes that was there when he was going nuts over a pretty girl. It occurred to Misty that Brock liked this girl a lot and was so completely at ease that he didn't need to go nuts over her. "I see. Well you will have to tell me more at a later time. Here are your quarters." Morra said "That means out tour is over, and I have to get back to duty." "Oh." Brock said a little dejectedly. "Which department do you work in?" "Engineering." Morra said "And I get off duty in a few hours. I'll see you all later." She finished with a wink to Brock and headed back down the hall to the turbolift. "Care to get something to eat in 10 forward?" Ash asked of his companions. "I'd love to Ash." Misty said smiling. "I'd like to think a bit guys." Brock replied. "You go on and have fun." "Okay Brock." Ash and Misty said back with concern but turned around and headed for 10 forward. Brock entered their quarters and leaned back against the doorframe. He didn't know what was happening but he did know one thing was certain. He was deeply in love with one Lt. Morra.
