They were talking quite animatedly. Ash looked at misty and noticed her mind was running in circles. He smiled at her and she smiled back. "Ash what is bugging Brock?" Misty asked. "I don't know Misty." Ash replied as he offered his arm to her, which she took. Pikachu noticed it right away and his ear dropped slightly with recognition. "I think it might be Morra. I did notice that he was really interested in her." Misty giggled and dropped her head. "Like you are with me." Ash blushed furiously and laughed. "Pikapi?" Pikachu said. "Yes pikachu." Ash replied. "Pika chu pikapi chu pi ka chu pika pikachupi?" Pikachu asked with a smile. Ash laughed at the questioning look on misty's face and ash translated for her. "He wants to know if I want to be alone with you." Understanding spread across misty's face and a smile came with it. "Pikachu thank you for caring and understanding. If ash agrees, then yes I would like to be alone with him." "Pikapi?" Pikachu asked looking at ash. "If you don't mind Pikachu." Ash said to his small friend. "I also know that you could use the rest." "Kachu." Pikachu replied and darted down ash. Ash didn't notice that pikachu grabbed his pokeball on the way down. "Cha pikachu pikapi." He said and held his pokeball out to ash. "Are you sure pikachu? We can go back and let you into our quarters with Brock and Togepi." Ash responded concerned. "Cha." Pikachu said holding up his ball again. "Alright." Ash said taking the pokeball and aiming it at Pikachu. "Pikachu return." The ball emitted a small red beam and pulled pikachu into it. It rocked in ash's hand for a moment and then was silent. What was unusual was there was no spark. A look of awe and understanding was displayed across Misty's face. "Ash I think pikachu knows that we have admitted our feelings for each other and this is his way of saying congratulations." Misty said. "I think your right." Ash commented looking from misty to the pokeball, which he stored back on his belt. "I'll talk to him about it later. Let's get some dinner." They both laughed as they continued on to 10 forward. ~ ~ ~ ~ Back in their quarters Brock stood against the door. He slid down slowly into the chair next to the door. His mind was on but one thing Morra and the wink she gave him. 'That girl winked at me.' He thought to himself. 'I really don't believe it, but she did misty and ash both saw it. It takes being pulled through a temporal distortion, into another dimension, time, and place to finally have someone like me for who I am. Or am I finally growing up too? I sure didn't go nuts for Morra like I do for Nurse Joy or Officer Jenny. But it felt a lot better. I don't know what's going on, but I hope to find out.' Brock sat there for some time thinking to himself and about what happened. He was deep in thought that he didn't hear the call from Commander Riker the first time. "Brock, Ash, Misty are you okay?" He said concerned and a little louder. This snapped Brock out of his thinking. "Just talk out loud and I'll be able to hear you." "I'm sorry Commander Riker." Brock replied a little uncertain of what he was doing. "I was thinking pretty hard and didn't hear you the first time. How can I help you?" Brock heard Commander Riker chuckle. "It's okay Brock. I'm sure this is a lot to take in. Could you, Ash, Misty and your Pokemon come to the officer's lounge in fifteen minutes. I can have Lt. Morra show you up here." Commander Riker asked politely. "Certainly Commander. Let me find Ash and Misty then we'll be up. I guess in fifteen minutes." Brock replied but in his mind he was wondering if they have already found a way for them to get home. "Thank you Brock. We'll see you soon. Commander Riker out." Commander Riker replied and the connection closed. Brock gathered his pokeball belt, Misty's bag and Togepi. As he headed for the door he questioned out loud. "Now where are Ash and Misty?" "Ash and Misty are in ten forward." The computer replied immediately. Brock grinned and headed for ten forward. Brock hurried down the corridor not really watching where he was going he ran right into a girl in a gold and black uniform as he passed the turbolift, and made the turn to ten forward. Brock began to apologize as she turned around and his breath caught in his throat. It was Morra. She giggled and smiled at him. "In a hurry to get to your friends?" She asked politely but with an air of something more. Brock caught on it immediately. "Yes and I'm sorry for running headlong into you Morra." Brock said and apologized. She just smiled nodded once and inclined her head up at him. "We are to meet Commander Riker in the Officer's Lounge in ten minutes." "Hmm I see." She said. "That's funny because I was just ordered to see you to the officer's lounge. You're not allowed on the bridge without an escort who is allowed to be there. We get pushed together again." "I guess so." Brock replied a little unnerved but at ease. "Hi guys." Ash said as they rounded the bend. "Hey ash I was just looking for you. We are to meet Commander Riker in the officer's lounge with our pokemon." Brock said handing misty her bag and noticed her hair was down around her shoulders. "And Morra is to be our escort once again." "Cool. Lead the way Morra." Misty said. Morra smiled at the pair and turned back to the turbolift. Love was a lot easier to spot in her time, since the need to hide it wasn't needed. You could love openly without it getting in the way. Morra truly loved Brock and it amused her to see him so flustered around her. She wondered how she could get him over that in the short time they may have. She was happier for Ash and Misty for what they had. It was a short ride to the bridge and the four new friends talked openly. They made plans with Morra to see a holographic simulation of her home planet. The doors to the turbolift opened and they stepped out onto the foredeck of the bridge. "Welcome to the bridge of the Enterprise" Morra said. "This is the command center of the entire ship. Right now Commander Data is in charge. The Captain, Commander Riker, and Councilor Troi must be off elsewhere. The lounge is over here." She said motioning for them to follow her. "Excuse me Commander Data?" Ash asked without leaving the foredeck, knowing the importance of the Bridge. "Yes Ash, How can I help you?" Commander Data replied from his position at the conn. "About my pokedex, sir?' Ash asked politely but before he could finish all the way Data turned to him with it in his hand. "Actually I was going to give it back to you after your meeting with Captain Picard." Data replied handing it to him. "You will find that you will not need to do another journal entry by hand again Ash. I took the liberty of fitting your pokedex with one of our isolinear chips. It will never run out of space again." "Thank you Commander Data." Ash replied in awe. "You are welcome." Data said with a nod and returned to the conn. Morra motioned again and they followed her into the lounge. Sitting at the head of the long table was Captain Picard. To his right was Commander Riker and on the Captain's left was a strikingly beautiful woman in a uniform of blue and black. With a look from Captain Picard, Morra turned and left the room leaving Ash, Misty and Brock standing there, all of them a bit uncomfortable. "Please take a seat." Captain Picard offered softly. The three sat down, as ash did a small shock jolted him back to his feet. "I'm sorry Captain." Ash said briskly as he pulled a pokeball from his belt. "This will take a second. Pikachu go." Ash said commandingly and tossed the ball gently in the air. Captain Picard watched as the ball split and pikachu formed before his eyes. The ball closed and flew gently back into ash's hand and he stored it back on his belt after it had shrunk down in size. "Captain Picard, let me introduce you to pokemon and this is pikachu." "Commander Riker you know. This is Councilor Deanna Troi." Captain Picard said briskly. "Pleasure to meet all of you." Councilor Troi replied in a very musical voice. To both ash and misty's astonishment Brock didn't go into a fit. "May I ask why we are here?" Ash asked politely. "In fact you can." Commander Riker began much to the Captains comfort. Misty picked up on his relief almost as quick as Councilor Troi. "Pardon me Commander, If I may." Misty said softly while looking at the Captain. "By all means." He said and leaned back in his chair. "Captain you are so tense and nervous around us." She said gently. "Why is that?" "Misty!" Ash exclaimed in shock. But Captain Picard only nodded the looks of his officers away and turned his attention to misty. "It's okay Ash." The Captain began. "Misty I have a problem dealing with children. I always have, even since I was a child myself. I preferred the company of adults or the solitude of being alone. I run a ship full of families, and brand new ensigns straight out of the academy. For all those kids I have never really learned how to deal with them. It has always been an understood arrangement that Commander Riker handled the younger population. It has been like that since I first took Command of the Enterprise D. But I must be honest with you. I am curious to know more about you three, the creatures you call pokemon, and the world you come from. Now Commander Riker has filled us all in on what he has already gotten from you. But I would like to hear it straight from you as well." Ash, Misty and Brock all nodded with looks amongst themselves. Brock turned to Captain Picard and smiled. "What would you like to know?" Brock asked while leaning back in his chair. Captain Picard smiled back and felt a bit more at ease with the three children. "Why the age of eleven?" Captain Picard asked. "In our time and dimension our children are still in school and with their parents at the age of eleven. Why do your parents let children out into the world at such a young age?" Ash laughed at the question and began in his answer. "Well a lot of kids do just as you said they are still in school and live at home. But there are some that are from smaller towns, villages, and cities that feel the need to get out. They have seen so much on television about pokemon and the trainer's way of life that they need to get out and try it out. It's those kids that help forward the research effort of the many professors of pokemon research. The Professor that gave me Pikachu was one of the leading authorities in our dimension. He is known through many of the different regions." Misty nodded and continued as ash got some water from the replicator in the lounge. "Ash is right. Professor Oak is the foremost leading expert in pokemon research." Misty set her bag on the table and showed the six places for pokeballs. Each space was filled. "The pokemon league governs the number of pokemon a trainer can carry. That number is six. The pokedex…" Which ash showed to Captain Picard "Records each pokemon that is caught, and which ones are in your party of pokemon. When all six slots are filled it registers in the system that your party is full and there are computer chips in the pokeballs that trigger a transport and storage system when the party is full. The pokemon that is caught is sent to the Professor you received your starting pokemon from." Brock leaned forward and kept going. "The pokemon in the trainers party can be swapped out for pokemon that the trainer has caught. This allows the trainer to work with many different pokemon and raise them into and effective battling team." "So as a trainer you help in pokemon research by providing the professors with pokemon that they can study. You also train these pokemon to battle. Why is that?" Commander Riker asked with intrigue. "Well it is kind of hard to go against a better trainer than yourself and win if you don't train. The need to further a pokemon's training and experience is one of the most important tasks of a trainer." Ash replied. "The more battles a pokemon is in the more experience it gains. That experience allows the pokemon to learn new battle attacks and even to evolve into a different, more powerful form. As an example a pokemon called geodude….." Brock released geodude out to be seen. "..Can grow and evolve into a pokemon called graveler…." Brock released out a graveler. "And if I continue to raise graveler, through battles he will learn even more powerful attacks and get stronger. Graveler does have one more form that he can evolve into, that is golem. I have to agree to a trade with another trainer, who is competent and has proven him or herself to get Graveler to evolve into golem." Brock finished. "It's this evolution that researchers are trying to understand the most and how pokemon reproduce." Misty stated. "I see." Captain Picard said in understanding. "So trainers such as yourselves help the researchers of your dimension to understand pokemon and their origins. In all reality you are a vital link between them and pokemon. Brock you said that a pokemon that evolves through a trade must be made with a competent trainer. Why is that?" "In the pokemon league there are gyms that a trainer must complete to be able to take on what is called the final four, and the champion of the league. If a trainer can do this he or she is proclaimed a pokemon master. In the eyes of the public a pokemon master is the ultimate trainer. They are confident and self-assured that they know what they are doing. Pokemon being intelligent creatures can sense this confidence and will obey the commands the trainer gives them. If they don't feel the trainer is confident the pokemon will be unruly and will not obey the commands it is given." Brock said at length. "Pikachu was like that with me when we first started out." Ash said. "I was such a new trainer that he did not want to listen to me. I finally gained his trust by protecting him from a flock of Spearow that were attacking us. From that point on he trusted me to keep him safe as I trained him. Now he trusts me and I trust him, and my friends with my life." "Why battles, Ash?" Councilor Troi asked quietly. "We battle to raise out pokemon to higher levels. We also battle for the fun of it and the pokemon like to battle. But like people there are times that they don't. We also battle other trainers so that we can continue the journey and to pay for supplies. Every trainer saves money to begin his or her journey. When a battle is lost that trainer has to give a little money to the winner as a prize for the skill of the winning trainer. That is one of the rules of the pokemon league, and all trainers follow it." Misty said in response. "Even though we are kids, we have to support ourselves and our pokemon while we are away from a town or city with a pokemon center. And we have to eat. Ash, Brock and I have made and lost thousands. But it's not the money we are out there for." "No its not. It's the adventure." Ash replied firmly. "May I see what you mean by a battle?" Captain Picard asked with a hint of excitement in his voice. "If Brock or Misty agrees, and there is a holodeck close by. I have no complaints about that." Ash said. "I have a couple of other pokemon that need a bit of a workout." Brock said with a grin. The excitement in the room was growing and Councilor Troi smiled softly. "It's only a few minutes to a holodeck." Commander Riker said as they rose to their feet and headed out the opposite door of the lounge. They talked about pokemon as they strode down and short corridor and entered a turbolift. A short ride and they were back on deck ten and came to a holodeck entrance. Captain Picard keyed up the holodeck and looked expectantly at ash. Ash nodded and spoke quickly. "Computer run program Ash 1" "Working" The computer, replied a moment later "The program is running you may enter when ready." The group of six entered lead by Captain Picard, whom all took seats, while Ash and Brock took their places on the field. The battle began and the command staff of the Enterprise watched in wonder as Misty explained all that was happening. The battle waged on longer than the earlier battle and the fatigue was beginning to show on the trainer's faces. Captain Picard gained a whole new respect for Ash and his companions. Brock had gone through two of his pokemon and was down to his last ash still had two left the pokemon he was using and one other. He brought it out now. "Enough Furret return." "Down to your last Ash" Brock replied in a friendly challenge. "Not quite Brock." Ash replied in fun "But it is time to end this. Go Octillery" an octopus looking pokemon appeared and when it did ash immediately ordered and attack. "Bubble Beam, Now." Brocks Forretress was too slow to avoid the attack and was hit with it full force. It was all it took and Forretress fainted straight away. Ash tossed Brock a revive potion and full restore as he recalled his pokemon thanking them for a job well done. Brock took a little longer as he woke Forretress up and restored its health to full. "Any questions Captain?" Ash asked as they approached. "The battles that you're in make traveling worth it?" Captain Picard asked "Yes. To a point." Ash replied slowly. "You see its not all the battles or catching pokemon. That is a very big part of it. But the largest part is being able to be out in the world meeting people, making friends. See I have been truly lucky and blessed as a trainer, because I have had a friend following me on my journey since day one. And not long after I had a second friend join me and we have been together ever since. Granted Brock had a spell where he wasn't around, but he was always there and behind me if I needed him. Misty, well she has always been there through thick or thin. And for me sharing the adventure with friends is better than anything else." "Thank you for that honesty." Captain Picard said. "What you have shown us during our meeting and this battle has given me a lot of insight as to who you three are. We will do our best to get you home safely." With a nod he left the holodeck and made his way back to the bridge. "He really isn't all that comfortable with us is he?" Brock asked the question running through his mind. "Unfortunately he is not." Councilor Troi replied softly. "But he truly meant what he just said. You have given him tremendous insight as to who you are and your character. He will do all that he can and use every resource available to him to get you home safely." "You three have made an impression on the Captain" Commander Riker stated. "I haven't seen him that excited over any kids before you three." "Well Commander Riker," Misty replied as they left the holodeck. "A little understanding and compassion can go a long way in bridging a gap left by uncertainty." "That it can Misty." Commander Riker replied back. "That it can in deed." Ash Brock and Misty returned to their quarters and Commander Riker and Councilor Troi went on with ships business.
