Chapter 1: The Awakening of a Gift

A series of Bedrills flew through an unusually silent forest; the sounds of their wings echoing like thunder around the trees. Pokeballs were thrown through the woods, careening into Bedrills that flew near the edge of the swarm. Many of the weaker ones were caught after what had been hours of flying and being attacked by Pokemon with no rest what so ever. All the swarm could do was form a tighter ball around their precious cargo, fighting for the chance for their species to stay free and alive.

The largest Bedrill in the centered carried a small egg that would eventually hatch into a Weedle. If the egg didn’t survive until its adult form or if the wrong kinds of humans got control of it. Freedom as the Bedrill knew it would come to an end. A pokeball managed to crash through the swarm of Bedrills, hitting the one that held the silken egg. Instantly the female dropped the egg as she was caught. Another Bedrill taking her place as the bearer while the sisters of her swarm was caught.

The last Bedrill to hold the egg knew that it couldn't out fly the Pokemon of those sadistic humans. It had to fine a wild Pokemon to entrust with the egg while it acted as a distraction while the Pokemon escaped with the egg. Though the Bedrill couldn't find any of the residents of the forest, those fools had run off in fear of being forced to bear the egg. Finally the Bedrill noticed a flash of white in a near by tree. *Give me the egg,* a voice said. The Bedrill saw that a mysterious looking Absol daintily on some tree branches. The Bedrill was a little surprised because Absol were as rare as the legendaries themselves in the Kanto area. *Thank you kind Absol. There is One that has been given the ability to hear, you must find her before it is too late,* the Bedrill ordered.

*Fly away from the town so they won't figure out what I have done with the egg,* the Absol ordered.

*I am no fool Absol,* the Bedrill stated as she fluttered off. The Absol was nothing more than a white flash as he headed towards the nearest human settlement that was still miles away.

Meanwhile the Bedrill flew high up over the tree lines so she could put even more miles in between herself and the Umbreon. It was at least a half-hour before the they managed to find her. With her last bit of strength she fluttered into a field of flowers where she enjoyed her final moments of life in a place where a Bedrill called home. The jaws of Pokeball clasped shut on the Bedrill as her last amounts of energy on committing suicide. "Damn it!" A young Rocket cried as he noticed that the Bedrill died. He took out a communicator and singled his commander. "Boss there must have been more to the swarm; the Bedrill didn't have the egg."

"Report back then, we will continue the search in the morning," a voice responded. The boy just threw the Pokeball into the field as he disappeared into the shadows of the forest.

A girl of thirteen year slept late into the day, oblivious to the happenings in the woods around her home the night before. Head length reddish brown hair formed a fan pattern around her head currently as she tossed and turned to keep the sun from entering her closed eyes. Dust colored tan skin was slightly sweaty because it had been a particularly hot night and day because it was the mists of summer. Dark, forest green eyes shot open as she a vacuum sucking at her hair. "MR. MIME!" Leah Ketchum screeched as she grabbed the vacuum from her mother's Pokemon. She could have sword she locked the door last night to prevent this incident from still being her normal morning routine.

"What's wrong honey?" Delilah Ketchum called when she heard her daughter's anguish.

"How did he get in?" Leah inquired.

"I unlocked the door this morning."

"Why?"

"Because you would sleep the summer away if he didn't wake you up. Now hurry up and get dressed so you can start your chores."

"Fine," Leah groaned as she pushed Mr. Mime out of her room. She began to reach through piles of cloths as she tried to find something clean. She ended up wearing a black shirt that had been torn at the sleeves, over sized jeans that were torn at the knees, old brown hiking boots that, black fingerless gloves, and finally an old brown belt that buckled in the front in stead of snap. An old red and white Pokemon League had adored her despite the fact that Leah had no interest in Pokemon training at all.

Of course being the younger sister of Ash Ketchum she had to act like she had some kind of interest in the creatures. In reality she would have just rather continued helping at Prof. Oak's laboratory but her brother had been on her case for the past three years since she had turned. He had been fourteen when he had achieved the title of Master, the youngest ever in known history and in one of the shortest time spans. Ash wanted Leah to continue the tradition of gaining the title of a Master (which a member of her family had held since her great-great grandfather's time) but she had no interest in battles.

Leah sighed as she noticed a flock of various Flying type Pokemon accumulating in the tree out side of her window. "Go away!" She ordered. The flyers just began to squawk, and she moaned as her alarm clock went off. Leah's temper got the best of her because she had just woken up, and she didn't want to deal with all of the noise. Taking the Pokeball shaped alarm clock she chucked it out of the tree out side. The smash of clock parts against wood made the flyers scatter though they left a cryptic message behind.

*Help her! Help her!* Leah jumped when she heard the various voices echoing in her head. Whirling around she looked for the source of them.

"LEAH, DID YOU BRAKE ANOTHER ALARM CLOCK!" Delilah yelled from down stairs.

"Um..." Leah tried to come up with an excuse.

Leah groaned as she walked through the forests around her home, rubbing at various scratches and cuts on her skin. The day’s chores consisted of weeding in the rose bush that just happened to have ppickers, then picking vegetables from the garden. She had received an upload of chores since the summer started, and Leah suspected it had something to do with not telling her brother she didn't want to start a Pokemon Journey. Leah had come up with an excuse to leave the house when she saw her mother hauling a bag of manure from the shed, and she knew that couldn't have left a moment to soon.

"Damn prickers," Leah complained to no one in particular as she stopped by a near by stream. Washing off the died blood and dirt that had formed on her arm she found that there was something odd about the forest. It was abnormally silent. Turning around Leah found that she couldn't see or find any kind of Pokemon. There weren't even any Pidgey around and they normally didn't mind human's being around as long as they weren't disturbed. "Freaky," Leah decided to leave the forest at that minute. As she did so she didn't notice a small form following her through the trees.

The Absol sighed as he placed the cocoon egg in a near buy tree, all his energy taxed on keeping up with Leah below. He could sense that Leah was the one with the gift but something in her was repressing it. ~Maybe a little wake up call would work,~ the Absol thought as she jumped from branch to branch. The Umbreon noticed a branch that was close to braking, all it would take was the right hit at the right moment. Waiting for Leah to walk under the tree the branch was connected to. As Leah walked under the tree the Absol catapulted on and off the branch.

Leah began to whirl around with fear as she looked for the source of near by crunching leaves. It had seemed like she had done a three hundred sixty degree turn for the twentieth time when she realized that the sound was coming from up above. She looked up into the trees to see if some Sparrow was playing a trick on her but she found nothing. Sighing, she just continued on her normal path until she heard a snapping sound. Looking up she had no time to react as a branch came crashing down through a tree and hit her in the forehead.
